Obviously News about this years Comic book idol isn't released. But can't hurt to ask when the goal date is going to be for it.
I'm sure more people than just me are interested to see that event get under way again. It was blast to watch last year.

Signed, a curious man.

I was hoping to do something similar to last year and have things lead into the summer convention season... but I think we got lucky with CBI2 :D

People are muy busy right now and it's hard to get folks to commit to stuff and organize what needs to be organized before we hit San Diego. CBI3 just may be a fall event this year. And our winner will get to go on a date with Jonah. You know, so we don't repeat ourselves.

CBI3 just may be a fall event this year.

Well, I can understand how tough it would be to organize everything. It would truly be a bummer to not run this thing between now and Sandiego or even chicago Con which woulds give you almost an extra month. The knowledge that that was the grand prize, really made last years intense. It made the contest special. I would wager for the artists that it really made them want to make great stuff for the honor of going to Sandiego as CBI winner.(not that they wouldn't want to succed otherwise :) ) Is there anything we as fans or hopefuls can do to help you out J?

And our winner will get to go on a date with Jonah.
He's no San Diego Comicon, but I hear he's pretty hot!! Like Brittany Spears, or Justin Timberlake HOT!

hey guys...

remember me...Benjamin "honourable mentions" Tiesma?! lol. no? it's all good.

I was dissappointed to hear this years contest isn't leading up to a major convention. That prize seemed so...ideal. Like being belle of the ball (to those that followed this harrowing little contest that is).

I know I was really anxious to enter for sure this summer...don't know about fall though.

Regardless, this is a really great platform and idea for aspiring artists. For the sake of other great non-working, unseen comic book artist hopefuls, please don't let "fall" become "winter" and "winter" become "spring"...etc. ;)

J. Torres
10-23-2005, 12:13 PM
It's just a timing thing. Jonah was away last month, I'm going away this week, one judge was suddenly unavailable until next month, and we're also waiting to hear from a sponsor... it's ain't easy synchronizing everyone's watches and finding 4-5 weeks when everyone involved can be around 24/7! But we're working on it :D

vetwoman01
10-23-2005, 09:53 PM
Thanks, J.!! So I'm guessing CBI3 will be in November or December then.

I don't see how it could happen before January unless the floor was opened to submissions now and got to judging very soon. Not many people (Judges or contestants) are going to want to be committed to CBI over the holidays.

Plus, January-February sounds like a great time to hold a contest like this.

pencilmachine
10-29-2005, 04:24 PM
yeah that sounds logical.everyones gonna be doin other stuff and it will be hard to be committed to this as well.but hopefully we get a heads up as to when it will be just to know when to have our stuff ready.what do ya think j??????

Brandon Hanvey
10-29-2005, 05:15 PM
My best advice would to be ready as soon as possible.

Choose about 8 to 10 pieces, and put them all on one easy to navigate page. You don't want to make it hard for the judges to view your work.

Make it a varsity of stuff: covers, pin-ups and sequential comics. But I would suggest featuring mostly sequential comics since that is the main part of the contest.

Unless my comic miraculously gets picked up between now and then, I'm rockin' CBI this year. I hope January will at least show the submission phase.

I'm new to posting so could someone explain what exactly is Comic Book Idol. That would be very helpful. :D

Brandon Hanvey

Comic Book Idol is a contest that is held by CBR for artist to get a break into comics.

The last time it was held was in 2004. A new contest should start sometime in 2006.

You can check ou the 2004 contest at the CBI blog

Hate to be a pesky boy...just curious if there was any word on CBI3?

We be coming up on the similar date the last CBI began.

Headin' into Con season.

It'd be a shame to not see it take place. That was great event 2 springs ago.

Hi Brant,

You must be talking about the JLA versus JSA Jam. If memory serves me...

You had your Wildcat and then someone had Blue Beetle taken out by him. I had my Hourman and Martian Manhunter done. One of them was set to go up against a hero that was going to be drawn by Jason, who at that time ended up becoming a finalist in Comic Book Idol II.

I think it died right around there... I'm not sure why exactly, but maybe everyone was too engrossed with CBI (and the play-along) to be involved with the jam at that time. I thought Brandon was putting the artwork together for us to view as it was going along... so it'd be cool if he could find it somewhere.

Awesome, Brandon! One of these days we gotta finish that thing.

I have no idea who drew everything. I did know who drew Blue Beetle (Sergio maybe?) but I don't remember now.
