Has anyone seen the trailer (http://www.madman.com.au/trailers/index.jsp?trailer=windowsmedia/ong_bak_high.wmv&title=Ong%20Bak&width=288&height=216&webChannelId=undefined) for this? Tony Jaa looks really slick. More here (http://www.themoviebox.net/movies/2004/NOPQR/Ong-Bak/trailer-page.html).

Ong Bak ? The hype about that movie has been around since 2003.

From the same director , u check out this movie's trailer 'born to fight' which is great if u like Ong Bak's action.

Ong-Bak is a fantastic film -- one of the most exhilerating martial arts/action films I've seen in years. Funny, fresh and amazing. Tony Jaa kicks 31 flavours of ass.

Here's hoping it hasn't been butchered too much for its North American release.

Saw it last October in a film festival. Grrrrreat movie. The fight scenes are phenomenal. A big part of it is just the fact that it's Thai boxing and not something you're so used to seeing in other movies. The plot is generic but hell yeah Tony Jaa kicks ass. Look out for flying elbows to the head.

For some strange reason, now it works.

Awesome fight movie, with excellent stunts. Panom Yeerum (aka "Tony Jaa") is, in my opinion, the kid with the best chance to take on the mantle of Jackie Chan. He's not displaying Chan's comic timing, but he's certainly displaying his penchant for crazy, jaw-dropping, real-time stunt work.

As for the martial arts... all I know is, people look like they're getting smacked around pretty hard in that film. Elbows to the head, knees to the face, guys getting flipped off upper levels to smack repeatedly into various poles, bars and struts on their way to a bone-crunching kiss with the floor, all combined with Muy Thai's brutal efficiency.

This kid is definitely one to keep an eye on.

Lousy plot, fair to middling direction, but Phanom Yeerum is a total phenom. Dude looks like 4'2", and he's jumping over moving cars.

I was at the premiere last night. The film is amazing, and afterward, Tony Jaa, and 5 of his martial arts troupe came out and performed for us, for about a half an hour. One of the stunts, required him to jump vertically from a standstill, completely invert his body, and then, with his feet more than 10' off the ground (and his head about 5' off the ground), kick a popcorn bucket that he and "the Rizza" (sp?) from the Wutang Clan, had autographed, into the audience. He also lept into the air, and ran across the shoulders of his troupe. The action in the film is stunning, and to then see him do more of the same, in person, with no wires, is stupifying!

The plot so generic I watched it in the original Thai (only option I had) and had no problems following it. Though I about busted a gut every time the guy with the voicebox spoke and they flashed the Thai subtitles up on the screen.

Can't wait to check it out in the theatres.

RZA is the reason the film's being distributed in America. He's one of the domestic poducers.

It's true, that the film isn't the most original story going, but the action is more than enough to make up for the more hackneyed moments!

Holy fucking shit.

I'd say this was the best movie I've seen this year but Hero narrowly beats it out thanks to a stronger plot and performances.

Easily better than Drunken Master or Enter the Dragon though.

I've never heard as many "Holy shits", "Ohmygods" and "Fuck yeahs!" from a cinema audience.

A star is born.

And in his next movie , he'll be fighting former WWE wrestler Nathan Jones , the giant among the midgets. ;)

Plus, he's handy if craft services break down and they need some milk on the set.

Bought it the other day, everything looked so PAINFUL!!!

P.S. It takes a special kind of ass-kicker to turn flaming pants into an advantage

I just rented this last night.

Greatest. Action. Movie. Ever.

I was exhilarated. I was genuinely on the edge of my seat, shouting out "oohs" and "I can't believe that".

Definitely going to buy this one.

Tom Yum Goong looks to be shaping up nicely as well, action-wise.

I gotta admit, though, the Ong Bak story was pretty weak. It's basically a loose excuse to string together the incredible action scenes.

I was VERY dissapointed in it. Just about everything non fight/stunt related was TERRIBLE. The buggie (can't remember the proper names) chase was long and TERRIBLE. The movie would have been better if they cut everything that wasnt a fight out.

Hmm... just finished watching "The bodyguard" with basically the cast of Ong Bak - the girl , the comedic sidekick who's the main star in this movie as well as a special guest appearance by Tony Ja.

Enjoyable movie , not so much for the stunts but for its hilarious comedy amidst the many action sequence and Tony Ja's short appearance was great as he took down a bunch of gunmen in a supermarket.

I'm going to be buying Born To Fight when it comes out (by the director of Ong Bak) which is apparently the craziest gunfest movie ever put on celluloid.

Well , if anyone who likes Ong Bak , i imagine they will definitely like Tom Yum Goong who has a bigger budget and a more slicker look to it.

Unfortunately the plot is paper thin and full of holes and took too long to unfold in the beginning without any action , characters are not really fleshed out , but what do you care ?
Once it got going , the action is great and Tony Jaa kicks some ass and the level of opponent is better than Ong Bak. You have the Brazilian Capoeira fighter , the chinese wushu fighter and the giant Nathan Jones plus a couple of big wrestlers/bodybuilders type and tons of henchmens.

Excellent package, crammed with features and a Bey Logan audio commentary.

I rented Ong Bak a couple of days ago. To be honest, the dude does have awesome fighting talent but I just didn't care for the film.

Oddly enough, the scheming cousin looks a lot like my friend's ex-boyfriend.

Yes, we all wondered just what the hell my friend saw in him, too :)

I have a sub-titled only copy as well too. Yeah, the subtitles on the voice box were cute. I need to rent it one of the days to get translated extras.

Beyond awesome fight scenes.

Crappy action scenes. A buggy chase? No thank you.

And no plot, pretty much. Maybe it's just the subtitles, but one of the worst endings ever too.
