First off, this isn't the thread to bash Claremount, or tell me how dated he is or whatever , really not the purpose of it.
Ok, so i really like Excalibur, but i only started picking up at issue 6. So, 3 mnoths later, i figured , yea, this is great, but theres something missing, its jsut not a full enough picture. So i eventually picked up 1-5 and i gotta say, this series is, if possible, EVEN better now, having read the first arc, and the rest of the second. I don't know, i jsut really was enjoying it already ,and having read the full picture so far, its blowing my mnid, really, best stuff i've read since weapon X. It's left all the right cliff hangers as well : whos in the coffin? Whos Chimere? Was that Sinister that the Prof sees?? What part is the Dark Beast REALLY playing? Its already featured two of my fav. characters in the X-universe, Dark Beast and Magneto, and it seems Sinister will be comnig to stay? This jsut gets better and better.
I just wanted to tell you guys that, and let people hear how good this series is, at least IMO. Check it out, you probably won't be sorry. The andy park covers are beautiful and even the art has grown on me.

yeah, this book is great. It's all just getting started in these first few arcs. Weve got Sinister, Dark Beast, the Prof. Magneto, Scareltt Witch, and a whole lot more. I like how it takes place in one setting: Genosha. Hopefully we can see Cassandra Nova real soon. Wicked and Freakshow are also great characters. Great stuff. Much better than Astonishing, but that aint saying much. I like how CC is also updating on chararcters who have been in Limbo for awhile, like Thunderbird3, Lifeguard, M, and Sabra. Very good. I will never drop this book. The big stuff will be happening here. We might see Sugar Man, too. Or Cameron Hodge. Purge is an awesome character. I just have endless good things to say about this book.

"Much better than Astonishing, but that aint saying much."
Lmao, yuou had to put that in didn't you :P
"Scarlett Witch"
Can't beleive i forgot to mention that as well, she'll be a great addition ; Angel soon too.
Shola's amazing too, i love his entrance. Thats another hanger that wasn't really answered, at least not in this book : why was Shola captured and being headed somewhere with an omega sentinal? Did that pick up from another story or what?
"We might see Sugar Man, too."
I really hope so. He's gotta show up, unless he died in the attack , which i don't expect will be his fate.
"Purge is an awesome character."
Lmao, deffo the wildcard throwaway character here. Probably not made to be a key figure, but has alot of potential.
I'll die when Sinister appears, which will be amazing.

Yay, a thread praising Excalibur instead of disrespecting it!
I personally adore Excalibur, and I eagerly await each and every issue. This last issue (#9) I was kind of disappointed with, but what can ya do? Also, rarely do I fall in love with a series regular, but I must admit that Freakshow has won my heart. =D He seems to sink too much into the background, though, compared to Shola, Karima, and Wicked.
In my deluded gay fantasies, Freakshow and Broadband are teenage lovers and soul mates...*cough* Anyway...

Damn i haven't got issue 9 yet.....i lvoed the preview though! It seems the next mnoths are gonna be gettin though. The agenl intro story, then ground zero for the house of M i beleive! i dig what you mean ,the first time i checked the boo kout issue 6, i got a feel for everyone except freakshow who imo also has to appear more! I expect alot of characters are gonna start from here and move up in the X-universe, some great guys already introduced.
"a thread praising Excalibur instead of disrespecting it!"
Hey , i can also see why people ahte it, and fair enough, they should voice that opinion, i just wanted somewhere i could discuss it with fans. I jsut had the urge to talk bout it when i read 1-5 earlier. I'm happy to read criticism as well, just hopefully not here :P

I aboslutely think Excalibur is a terrific book! I think it's Claremont's better book currently. The characters are fresh and new and I don't think silly at all (Although, Wicked needs some definition). I do enjoy the dynamic between people and love the variations in villians. How cool was it to see Dark Beast? It was certainly a nice surprize to see someone AoA show up in a title!
Claremont is doing a fantastic job and I cannot wait to see where this book goes as far as House of M and further in the Marvel Universe.

i think you guys would be pleased if the arc was about claremont's grocery list, or rather his halfway completed grocery list, which turns abruptly into his to-do list.

I really dig excalibur as well. I think some of have hit on some of the reasons why this book has been so enjoyable. There are alot of unanswered questions, and Claremont has a knack for turning seemingly dull characters interesting. I love what he has done with both Callisto and Charles. Charles isn't the boring wallpaper that he has been for far too long over the years. I like the budding relationship between Charles and Callisto. I think they would make an interesting couple.

ill say three nice things about this title...
1. lopresti is dope
2. it went from terrible to average (so its improving)
3. angel and scarlet witch are a couple of my favorite characters
i'll save the complaints about lame ass characters like wicked for another thread...

Hold on, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't she now brain dead courtesy of Dr strange. Regardless if she's on Genosha or not.

I like Wicked and Freakshow much more than the characters Claremont introduced for Xtreme. It's cool to have Unus in the book too, I think he's interesting.
I think the X-character who would've fit here most would be Polaris, given her ties to both Magneto and Genosha. I think she would've made more sense than Warren. This might just be wishful thinking though because I just see her getting offed soon the way they are intent on characterizing her, and I'm not sure that's what Claremont would do with her.
I've never really cared for Callisto and I hate her ugly green tentacles though, I think she should get the axe.

I just like that it isn't all good guys running around in the series. You have the good in Prof X, and some of the new kids. The middle ground characters in Calisto (do hate the goffy tentalces though) and Magneto. The bad with Dark Beast, Unus and his crew, and Sinister waiting in the wings. And now the crazy with the Scarlet Witch being there, and you just know Xavier is going to try and fix her mind.
I thought the series started out a little weak but I really think that it is getting better with each issue now. It is definetly not like any of the other X-Books.

And this is part of why I love it. It's so original and creative. It's different, but it's still Claremont. The mutants aren't your run of the mill mutants, their missions aren't always "defeat the bad guys". It's showing us a side of the Marvel Universe not to exposed before, and I think it rocks!

I'm very worried that this title might get sidetracked with any Editor-Mandated House of M stuff that might get thrust upon Claremont.
I'm liking the book very much, and it's potential is huge. I've always been interested in how CC would write the Scarlet Witch, but now I don't know how much of this book will be used to set up and resolve stuff from the House of M.

Bwhahaha!
I have much love for Wicked and Freakshow--the rest had no qualities that really captured me. More Wicked and Freakshow post SoM.

Part of me hopes that a lot of the fallout from this series gets dealt with at some point, properly.
However, it won't be under the title "Excalibur".
That's been returned to book that owned it for over decade, and now has it back.
I still think there's plenty enough loose ends in Genosha for something, someday...

This got cancelled, didn't it? For shame, I really wanted to pick it up. I'm sure I'll get trades somewhere down the line.

It did? That's a damn shame. I just picked up #1 of New Excalibur and thought it was pretty good. I didn't know much about Dazzler before hand but though the little I read about her, she was pretty cool. Liked the design of Kitty and Rachel in this story as well. Nightcrawler is always a plus and the little I saw of Nocturne in Uncanny I liked. The whole idea of evil X-men was pretty interesting and was looking forward to learning where they came from. Being set in the UK also was a welcome change. I've always wanted to visit or perhaps even work there if given the chance and to see read something based there with characters I know a little about was interesting.
Is it really being canceled or is the title just changing names?

Effect, this was about the last version of Excalibur, which took place on Genosha, starred Professor X, Magneto, Dark Beast, Callisto, and a number of new characters who were survivors of Genosha, which was cancelled due to House of M. :)

If anyone is interested, this is what Chris Claremont had planned for the Genosha "Excalibur" series:
1) A love interest for Charles Xavier.
2) Sinister was planned as the main villain. His hideout was underneath the island itself.
3) A possible return of members of the original, pre-Magneto, human government. They're bent on revenge, naturally.
4) The world learns who is to blame for the destruction of Genosha (Cassandra Nova) and blame Xavier. Plus, they learn that Magneto is on the island. The world confronts Genosha with all-out war.
5) Magneto would return to his evil ways. Claremont planned for the magnetic fields of the Earth to finally begin to negatively effect Magneto's brain. And it would cause him to once again, lose control of himself.

Why does Claremont take so long to build up plots?
He NEVER gets to finish them so why not just start with all the good stuff he has planned? I honestly didn't think he'd get to finish his Betsy plot in Uncanny.

Most comic writers build-up their plots. CC is one of the main reasons that that style of writing is still prevelent today. Just look at Morrison or Whedon's run, where they're using the same building storylines style that CC did with Uncanny X-Men back in the day. Various storylines, all interlinked into the primary storyline.

When Whedon took over a few years ago and Marvel was working on the post-Morrison era they should have given Claremont one book instead of two and that book should have been Excaliber.
I would have put Gambit in this book and given him to Claremont instead of having him waste away with Austen and Milligan. Claremony may be a bit outdated, but he can still write a decent story when given too. And he might not write the best X-stories anymore, but he still is fun.
