General thread about Dark Horse's new Creepy/Eerie series and their Archive reprints.
Are you enjoying the Archive collections? How's the Creepy ongoing?
I would love to see a reprint collection of 1984 magazine.

Got the first 3 vols of the Creepy Archive books. Very impressed with the artwork. Less enthused with the stories.... probably for me main problem is that its hard to really care about any of the characters... the"average" story (in the Creepy Archive books) being so short and punchy that very little space is devoted to establishing character quirks, history, etc.

I just started reading Creepy with issue #7 and have #8 on my "to read pile". I wish I would of picked it up from the get-go, but I was still new to comics in 2009. I hear Eerie will make its DH debut this July. Pretty excited for that.

"Eerie" and "Creepy" are the comic book equivalents of short stories. So you really can't expect a lot of character development.
For me, what I was more interested in would have been artist-focused collections and collection of particular characters/storylines (especially so in the later Eerie). It didn't look they were going to do so, but now they came out with a more or less complete "Hunter" collection (wish they had included all the Exterminator robot stories), and there will be future Corben and Wrightson collections. I'd be interested in a Corben collection and would love to see collections of Wood and Ditko.

One thing that the Creepy Archives made me remember is what a great artist Steve Ditko is. He does things in comics that you can never see in a movie.
Among other things I love the way he drew Peter Parker. You just looked at Pete, and knew him straight away... an ordinary looking nerdy kid, but brainy with real guts. The way Peter is drawn nowadays... a good looking athletic kid who looks like he was ordered up from a catalogue marked "another typical super hero stunning looking guy".... that's not Pete, for me.

Picked up #8 of the Creepy ongoing. I love how it reprints an old story from the original Creepy; that Jones/Wrightson story was definitely the best from issue #8 for me. Overall, it was fun short horror stories. I can't wait for Eerie in July. I would love to pick up the gorgeous hardcover Archives but, ack, that price!
So the new Eerie is going to be semiannual? Only twice a year? That's a bummer.

Read #8 last night, loved it. For me, personally, the Lovecraft story was my highlight. I'm big fan of Kelley Jones' art so seeing him and Dough Moench teaming up was a treat and the story continues next issue. I also loved the "Loathsome Lore" story with the horror influenced music through the decades. Seeing the Cramps and Misfits mentioned had me creaming a little:biggrin:.
Yeah its a bummer that its only semiannual, but hopefully they come out between the months of Creepy.
So here's the cover to Eerie #1:

Apparently its only 32 pages??

Oh yeah, I'm interested in seeing where the second part of that Lovecraft story goes.
I'm a bit disheartened about Eerie. I was hoping for a magazine style format kinda like what Creepy almost is. But two stories plus a classic story doesn't sound bad for $2.99. "Robotic paranoia" interests me. Can't wait!
I wonder if Eerie will be more sci-fi oriented than Creepy. What Cousin Eerie said in Creepy #8 makes me assume so.

So far I have them all, and looking forward to the more advanced numbers as the art improves considerably there, (in my opinion).
I would also love to see the 1984/1994 - GOBLIN - and ROOK HC's, too.
Stopped buying the new comic sized CRAPY after #6. It's an art repressed money grabbing shame, but don't mind me.

Yeah, what's up with that? I buy them through Amazon, and it comes considerably cheaper than through LCS since it fall into their free shipping option, but seriously Dynamite's Vampirella Archives have at least 7 issues reprinted for the same money, while some Creepy and EERIE Archives have only 4 issues. Now that's a bummer.

In Creepy #8 it says Eerie will be semiannual. I'm really excited about new Creepy and Eerie but I wish they came out more frequently. Publishing anthologies must be a lot of work though and Dark Horse already has DHP.

nice one danish. what's the difference in styles between creepy and eerie? - i like sci-fi and fantasy more than straight up horror so i am guessing eerie is more the one for me?
idea behind it sounds really good - two stories and a reprint - all in black and white which i love and the cover is worth it alone.

it's hard to like a series that you can't even add to your pull list because it doesn't come out that often....

Creepy #9 and Eerie #1 were solicited for July 4 but my LCS didn't have them and says they are coming out next week. Anyone else have the same problem? Bummer.

How are the comics collected then? is it 4 issues or 6 issues. That would mean you would have to wait 2/3 years per volume.

Well yes, Dark horse can only focus so much on Eerie/Creepy, They aren't that big a company. They have other comics/HC/TPB to publish. They recently made The Goon monthly and added two new monthly ongoing series(Brian Wood's The Massive and Matt Kindt's Mind MGMT).But who know, if demand is great(which I hope) perhaps they will make it bi monthly or even monthly.

I guess it's understandable.
I greatly enjoyed the new Creepy and Eerie. I was happily surprised to see a letters page in the latter. And then I saw "Next issue coming in January." Ack! :frown:
I love Richard Corben but a Corben reprint in both Creepy and Eerie is redundant. Though they are probably just hyping the new Richard Corben collection coming out soon. I would love to see an Esteban Maroto collection of his work with Warren. He was definitely my favorite artist from those mags.

The Lovecraftian issue #10 of Creepy was lots of fun. Despite the infrequent release, I am very thankful to Dark Horse for keeping something like this alive in the market. I've been hesitant to pick up the Archives due to the price, but I think I may pick up one or two to gaze at the glorious old school art. Warren hired some of the greatest Spanish artists for their mags.
So Eerie #2 and Creepy vol. 2 (issues 4-8) in January, and Creepy #11 in February. I'm glad they staggered the release of Creepy/Eerie so we don't get them both at once; then the wait doesn't feel as long, heh.

got my first four issues of creepy and i gotta say it feels like "Tales From The Dark Side" Or just about any horror series that uses the stand alone format makes it feel unique compared to other horror comics on the market and especially comics in general
Although once again i do wish creepy came out more often but i can understand why it has to be so long...(Eerie on the other hand doesn't sound as good and I'm a bit undecided on if i should grab Eerie#2)

I always wanted to like these mags, but for some reasons I never considered them good enough. Classic Creepy/Eerie stories were so-so, very rarely I was impressed. But I love the cover arts.

some issues are so so but others are good it's the downside of a variety series with stand alone stories by different writers and artists

Oh my! Excited for this. I haven't read much Steve Ditko but I love his radical style. I really like these story/artist collections Dark Horse is putting out.

I don't have any of the archive reprints. Thinking of getting the first volume or two for each but the back issues are pretty cheap after that. I follow the new series, like them good enough. I think something is lost with the toning, looks digital now. Do they still make that chemical paper they used to use? It's good though, and I get a kick out of seeing things like cellphones in a Creepy story. I also like the reran stories from the old series placed here and there.

Not too long ago I bought a stack of about 30 Warren mags for a dollar each. While sorting them I noticed one was really thick. I opened it up and saw stuffed behind the later issue of Eerie was an Eerie #2! Nice little bonus

Following the Archive releases of this series would be a bit too rich for my tastes - but these spotlight collections are right up my alley! Keep it up DH!

From the Diamond article about the upcoming Ditko volume:
The next Creepy Presents artist collection will likely be Alex Toth. After that, potentially Neal Adams or Wally Wood.
Hot damn!
