When people ask which Wonder Woman incarnation "is the truest", it is usually vaguely asked. Sometimes they are thinking JUST in terms of her personality, or JUST in terms of her origin story, or themes, or her looks, etc. And their definition of "true" is vague.
But now, I'M asking the question, but being very specific by referring to how close an incarnation comes to Dr. Marston's original concepts & intents, OVERALL. That means, all things considered, averaged out...themes, personality, spirit, etc. You see, WW can have a variety of valid incarnations that stay with the original concept & intent. But she's definitely had many invalid ones that stray so far from the original concept. My question is, which ones do YOU feel come closest or farthest?
And I do mean INCARNATION, not interpretation (which is just an individual writer's take on the same incarnation).
There may be other incarnations that I'm not aware of before I stopped reading comics, but just out of these listed below, which one(s) come closest to the Marston spirit??
But also, which versions stray the farthest from his concepts...the abominations??
Pick your top 3 for each......
1...Kanigher period + Impossible Tales
2...De-powered period (O'Neil)
3...SuperFriends & SuperPowers animated series
4...Feminist revival period (70's-80's)
5...Lynda Carter (season 1 series)
6...Galactic Guardians animated series
7...Perez Reboot
8...Justice League & Unlimited animated series
9...Pendant Productions radio podcast
10..Justice League: The New Frontier film
11..BTAWM (Bruce Timm Animated Wonderwoman Movie)
12..JL: Crisis on Two Earths film
13..SM/BM: Apocalypse film
14..Adrianne Palicki (David E. Kelly pilot)
15..Batman: The Brave and the Bold (comic & animation)
Honorable Mention:
Brady Kids episode
JM Straczynski tangent (Odyssey)
MY PICKS:
1- Batman: The Brave and the Bold (comic & animation)
2- Lynda Carter (season 1)
3- JL: Crisis on Two Earths film
TOP 3 ABOMINATIONS:
1- BTAWM
2- Pendant Productions radio podcast
3- Perez Reboot
Actually, the truest incarnation that stays closest to the original concept is MY personal modernized WW from my screenplay & WWU continuity. But as far as incarnations in Mainstream, I chose the above 3 becuz the Brave & the Bold version obviously stuck with the original. Lynda Carter is only one such varied incarnation, albeit 2-dimensionally, but a valid one nonetheless. The Crisis on Two Earths incarnation didn't show very much of her, but for what it did show, they were all close to the original concept, so I put it as #3...I especially liked the part where she yells "Submit!" to Superwoman. Altho I haven't seen New Frontier yet, all the others either didn't show enough of the original concept or strayed too far from the original concept...especially the top 3 abominations.
Altho I will say that even tho David E Kelly's version bombed, I had very high hopes for Adrianne Palicki, becuz I felt a certain 3-dimensioniality in her that was missing from Lynda Carter...too bad Palicki just didn't play WW right, she should've been given a better script & given my WW dossier to study up on.
