Something that I've been tinkering with off-and-on, for a while now - the Katha-Hem talisman/weapon from BPRD: The Black Flame...

Just some ABS tubing with acrylic and ABS hemispheres. For the spikes, I made a master out of Delrin on the lathe at work, molded it, and cast up the multiples in resin.
At this point it's ready for primer, and then molding. I'll probably do both the "crusty" and "clean" versions.
My first Guy Davis piece! Exciting

Cool prop Tim! That piece was begging to be made!
Where do you get the ABS hemispheres? I need to find supplies like that-- it's too hard trying to sculpt them out of polymer clay!

Thanks John!

Looking great! I'm excited to see how this pieces(s?) turns out. I was thinking about making one of these objects using glass sculpting processes, but I don't do that kind of work any more. I did some scans a couple of years ago and made these reference pages.

I think it is supposed to be a metal object that was crusted with rust when Roger found it underground and that it rubbed smooth and shiny in places from being handled before finally getting cleaned up when Liz channeled her formidable powers through it.
Please keep us posted.

Bingo! My exact thoughts as well, Gary.
As with all of the pieces that I do, I also compile a reference file on the object. This one has been particularly tricky, as the darned thing changes in size and subtle shape from panel to panel - the objective is always to try and find the average, or "middle ground", with these things.
This is the shape that I was going for, since it seemed the easiest to achieve with the materials that I chose:

Eight spikes, right?
Well, then what's with this?
http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL440/452919/21009667/387550879.jpg
SIX spikes?! WTF, Guy?!
Once again, you gotta try to find the middle ground - I chose to do seven spikes (seven being a "divine number" in some cases, right?) Plus, there are seven Ogdru Jahad, so there ya go

I think seven spikes is the best choice, and I like the seven Ogdru Jahad rationale quite a bit.

Thanks fellas
I'm rather pleased with how the spear turned out - I think what helps "sell" it is the texture that I applied to the pattern waaaay back when I first created it... it definitely helps convey age and "crustiness" (which is what I had in mind).
Having never worked with bronze before, it was pretty fun/interesting to see how the patination process brought it to life (so to speak).

Damn man....your pieces NEVER CEASE TO AMAZE. So well done and perfectly realized.
We need to find a licensee to manufacture these as "prop replicas". I would love to own a collection of these oddities and HB relics....

Heyzeus, That is awe inspiring. Beautiful work Grimmy Timmy! I love the texture, especially on the sword/knife it looks gloriously beaten up/aged/rusted.

Wow, another year has gone by...
Here's something that I just recently completed - it was an entry for a Weta Workshop sponsored "customize one of our 'Righteous Bison' rayguns" contest.
Everyone started out with (at least) one of these:

I used two, and came up with this - the 'Siamese Seladang':

And the winners were announced late last night:

Alas, I did not win (or even come close), but I did get an Honorable Mention:
"Ultimate Finickitivity of Colour Application"
Or, in other words... Best Paint. And Greg Broadmore commented, "I'm not sure if the Siamese Seladang is an RPF Bison entry or a recovered piece of the early Russian Space Program. Amazing."

I dont get it- what did you change? It looks exactly the same.
As with everything I've seen of yours, it's awesome- all your stuff is prop quality coolness.
ACTUALLY, it' all sucks!
So...er...send it all to me.So you wont have to have it around...embarassing you, and all.
Is this working at all? No?
damn.
