Found here (http://www.newsarama.com/comics/Gregg-Hurwitz-Batman-Dark-Knight-1-120206.html). First full interview I've seen about this. Didn't go extremely in-depth with him, but it's nice to hear a bit on how this is going to be. Not quite sure what he means by "And it is in continuity in a way that the Penguin wasn't", but I assume he just means Penguin isn't really contributing in the same way to the ongoing narrative of the DCU, it's more like Year One was or something. Penguin's most likely not just an Elseworlds.
I am liking the idea that Scarecrow's actually getting a major, "epic" story. It's been a while, I feel like, since any classic villain except Joker has had the spotlight like that. Scarecrow's also a pretty good villain in general IMO, both in his theme of fear and it's relation to Batman. He was definitely one of the villains that stood out to me way back when I was a kid and I used to watch the Animated Series. I just sort of wish Detective and The Dark Knight weren't already doing minor stories with him before this, it would've been cool if his first non-cameo appearance was an "epic" like this is said to be.
Anyway, looking forward to this. I've enjoyed Penguin tremendously and I like David Finch's art quite a bit even though I haven't been following The Dark Knight religiously. From what I've seen, he seems to have improved a lot even from his work in The Return.

I think it means that Penguin was very insightfull and selfcontained while his work on DK will be more around the DCU

Nice interview. Gives a good feel for where the book's going to be headed.

Yeah, that's what I mean. Also, because of it's...self-containedness, I wonder if it still takes place in the present day of the DCU or takes place some time earlier.

Interesting interview. Scarecrow's always been a character I've found interesting and I can't wait to see what Hurwitz does with him. It sucks having to find something to drop to make room for TDK come June, but given the high quality of Hurwitz' writing in the Penguin mini, I'm happy to do so.

I think it's two-fold. It is a continuity book. It takes place within the DCU. We're mindful of everything that is happening with the other books. It's tied in in that way.
Operating within that, it's a priority for us to present a story that can also stand on its own two feet. So it's not like a tie-in book where you're going to have to buy eight other books to understand the story. We want to present a free-standing epic.
So it is in the present but off to one side from Snyder's main story.

I was speaking of Penguin, actually. I know The Dark Knight will be part of the "present day" of the DCU.

DC did the one thing that could get me to read David Finch's art book. The Penguin mini is one of my favorite things to come out post post-New 52.

Finch isn't my favorite, but of his contemporaries he impresses me the most. (That has the side effect of infuriating me the most, too, since a few awesome images can be marred by some less cool stuff on the next panel/page).
With a solid writer like Hurwitz promising to finally try a Scarecrow story that delves deep into Crane, I'll continue reading this book.

Interesting interview. A story about Scarecrow should be great. Also, we have an apparent 'no-name' (at least to comics) who has everyone excited for his run. We could have another Snyder on the way!

I quite like Finch's art; he's not a favourite and I usually don't like his style, but it is well suited for a Batman book, particularly a dark and gothic Batman book. Looks like this is gonna be a cross between Penguin, Tec and Batman and top notch at that. My wallet is gonna bleed slightly. Need to pick up this, BoP, maybe Batgirl. The Bat line is pretty damn solid.
Scarecrow is a villain I've liked more than most classic rogues, he's fairly supervillain-ey, but a bit grounded and a lot scary. Drug based horror villain. Can't remember the last time he was really used. Was it really at the start of the previous Batgirl run, then a bit part in Blackest Knight?

So...it's more or less the same direction with more credible writing?
I can live with that.

Interview was fine, sounded good even, but did anyone else kind of chuckle with that first response. In what world is dark and brooding a new direction for Batman, LoL. Not that there's anything wrong with that direction or anything, just kind of saying...

Well this book just got a hell of a lot more interesting, if even half of what he says is true I'm really looking forward to his take on Scarecrow, he's a villain, just like The Penguin was, who is in desperate need of reinvigorating and a fresh take in the DCnU.

I think Finch's art over the past couple years has been pretty bad but with the dramatic writer upgrade I will give this a shot. I did think Finch's Scarecrow hallucination scenes in the last TDK issue were pretty cool too.

I think he meant it's a new direction for this book specifically. Whereas before it was kind of a balls-out, anything can happen sort of thing, now it'll be a bit more focused and reflective. At least, that's how I took it.
And I'm surprised people are saying they don't like Finch's art. He's not my absolute favorite, but I think at least since the relaunch he's stepped it up tremendously. I haven't been closely following the New 52 Dark Knight, but what I've seen I thought was pretty good. IMO, where both Tec and TDK have seemed to suffer thus far has been the writing(and it looks like that might change for TDK), I've enjoyed the art on both personally. Capullo's work on Batman is my far and away favorite, but still.

Thank you DC! TDK will be added to my pull list as of issue #10. Penguin: Pain & Prejudice has been outstanding and I look forward to more from Gregg Hurwitz.
