On the story side of the equation, Spidey 616 had an interesting observation: "I love how Warren Ellis and Brian Bendis and other creators have built up Norman Osborn into the Avengers level threat he is today, but I'll always have a soft spot for his time as the Green Goblin. Do you think we'll ever see Osborn return as a mainly Spidey villain and/or go back to the Goblin identity on a permanent basis? "

Alonso: It's likely you'll see Osborn battling Spidey and impacting on his world again sooner or later, but not necessarily as the Green Goblin. He's undergoing a metamorphosis into something new right now in the pages of "Avengers" and "New Avengers."

What this says to me is that a Spidey vs Norman Osborn story is in the pipeline for Slott, but not as the Green Goblin. We'll have to wait until after the current Avengers story arcs to find out what form he'll take, although from the previews, he's looking pretty intimidating even without the purple and greens.

Finally, CMBMOOL stopped by to inquire: "Hey, I was wondering given that this is Spider-man's 50th anniversary at Marvel comics, I was wondering if there will be a miniseries and/or a one-shot that features new stories of showcasing Spider-man's legacy and those who are inspired by it? You know characters like Spider-man of 2099 or Spider-girl of the MC-2 or even the new Ultimate comics Spider-man, will we be seeing characters like that involved in the 50th anniversary?"

Alonso: What? No love for Spider-Ham, CMBMOOL? No plans for anything like that as we want to keep the focus on Peter Parker, the guy at the center of the Marvel Universe. 2012 is looking to be a big one for Spider-Man with a lot of big things happening -- the 50th Anniversary as you, mention, a big movie in July, and issue #700 on Broadway. Seems like a pretty good final year for ol' Pete, doesn't it?

Our very own CMBMOOL got a question answered, and hey, what are the odds, its about Spider-Girl! But really, my main reason for quoting this was to once again have another reference to the "End of Spider-Man" book Axel, Slott, and Wacker keep hammering all about.

Also, this:

And as one last piece of celebration on that front, next week AXEL-IN-CHARGE will welcome special guest DAN SLOTT to the column. So folks who have questions for the writer of "Amazing Spider-Man" can submit them over the next few days!

So hey, get those questions rolling. Maybe some non-Spider-Girl ones!

I don't think there was ever a question Osborn would pop back into to the pages of ASM to menace Spidey agian BUT I do think the character has progressed to the point where the days of Normy being primarily a Spidey villan are long gone.

My guess is the return of the "Spider" version of Peter from the early 90s. :frown:

Also, I did mention OTHER verisions of Spider-man, but I didn't mention Spider-Ham, as I forgot or I didn't think he wasn't that important in Spider-man history. :frown:

1) You're really bad at guessing.
2) Spider-Ham is far older and more important than that stuffy old MC-2 "Spidergirl".

I'm probably completely wrong here BUT maybe Alonso is having a little bit of fun at the expense of everyone expecting the world to end in 2012 when he refers to a final year for Peter Parker.

That guess is as valid as any other, but I thought it was just feeding into the hints of SUPER BIG CHANGES/END OF SPIDER-MAN the Spider-Man caretakers keep talking about.

Spider-Man doesn't deserve an A-list villain such as Norman Osborn

Osborn is taking on the Avengers Spider-Man isn't even on the same league as him. Why does Osborn hate Spider-Man anyways, he doesn't even know who he is anymore.

That's what I'm thinking too, they've been hinting at something for a bit now....they sure as hell are keeping it interesting that's for sure!

Yeah well Osborn doesn't deserve to be an A-list villain against the Avengers.
So it goes both ways.

Truer words, my friend. Truer words...

As to the subject of the thread, it was an offhand comment. Perhaps it was supposed to be a joke. Perhaps it was designed to elicit some buzz for the book. Either way, I prefer not to guess to much about the future of the book. I like being surprised. Dan Slott will be writing the book at least until next year, so I'm confident that 2012 will be another great year.

Oh, and I love that page of Norman hovering over the burning building!

Or maybe nothing happens.

The MU could use a bit of a re-boot, though. Every 25 years (a generation) the company ought to do a re-boot of sorts. I had thought, after the Ultimate Universe first took off, that we'd see a COIE type situation and the Ultimate versions would become the 616 versions. The UU is superfluous now--well, except for the revamped Spidey. I wish he'd call himself "the Spider" or something and not "Spider-Man."

I called it first!

Err, anyway, we know that issue 700 will be released "at the end of the year," which implies after AvX (October I wouldn't really call the end of the year, would you?). I think it would be rather silly to not have Peter as Spider-Man in a milestone issue, so what Alonso means must be something after that...

There are still plenty of stories to tell in the UU, with Miles Morales. Heck, even if they basically redid the themes in first 100 issues of USM, the stories would happen totally differently with Miles.

Like CMBPOOL, I am looking and hoping for more from the one, true Spider-Girl.
