I was going through my local comic store's stuff and found a What If..? comic that I just had to buy!

The Punisher is hired by The Jackal to kill Spider-Man.

After the death of Peter Parker Punisher gets hunted by the heroes. The villains gives him refuge and in classic Punisher style he kills off all of Spider-Man's villains!

The ending has Punisher and The Jackal facing off.

Seeing how Death of Spider-Man went I think that had Millar done something similar to this instead of what we got in UAVNU not only would we had gotten a much better story (What If > UAVNU and I'm not just being Anti-Millar here, it really is MUCH better) and a more closely related tie-in.
Anyway this was just a little thing I found interesting.

I don't really know much about the Punisher, but does he ever take money to go and kill someone? And someone like a hero, too, as Peter is...it seems so weird that he'd do that.

He's had several phases, hero for hire was one of them. He even had phase where he killed himself and hunted demons as an angel for redemption.

He might have done that in his earliest incarnations (I wouldn't know, I've never read those stories) but he doesn't tend to do anything for money. Anytime he needs money to buy more food, gas and ammo he just shoots up a money launderer or drug dealer and steals all their cash.

It was his first appearance IIRC. He was hired by The Jackal to kill Spider-Man, he failed. This is what if he didn't.

Wasn't Smithers originally black on the Simpsons, too?

How Punisher killed Spider-Man was pretty neat too. He used a double bluff to fool his spiedy sense.
Hope more villains use that, now that his powers are so well known.

Where can i see that one shot?
It was Garth Ennis' first Punisher work, way before Welcome Back, Frank. So its really rare. It was included in the first edition of WBF and in the omnibus, but both are now OOP. For some reason when Marvel released a new edition of WBF they left out that story.
You might be able to find it digitally. Its pretty cool. The premise is his family was killed in the crossfire of a superhero fight, rather than by gangsters. So all of his hatred is devoted to killing superheroes and villains.

They did a reprint in 2008 but looking at eBay even that isn't going that cheap.
