Hi Everyone,
I'm a big Justice Society fan and I decided early this year to get the full run of the All-Star squadron in all 9.8's CGC White Pages. Only issue #26 got 9.8 Off-White to White Pages. But I think CGC made a mistake.
Why I choose All-Star squadron? well in the run it had almost every super hero in the 1940's appears in the series, and for some reason that era has a romantic touch to it.
I just wanted to share with you if you have enough determination and patience you can accomplish anything.
I'm very proud to presents the All-Star Squadrons!

Congratulations! Are you also pursuing the spin-offs, like Young All-Stars, or are you pretty much done?

My goal is getting every JSA cover issue starting the year 1976 and up to 1999 in 9.6 CGC and above, and I'm really closes to finish that goal. As for Young All-Stars...there's only 2 issues from that run I would get.
Thank you for the complement.

Very impressive.
That was such a great read.
I think DC is finally getting around to reprinting it.

It'll be black and white...all the Showcase Presents TPBs are.
Actually, if I'm correct in understanding that All-Star Squadron hasn't ever been reprinted previously, Scott Shaw! asks a very interesting question above. You've spent (presumably) a lot of money and a lot of time collecting your run, but they're in CGC cases, so how do you plan to read the comics and enjoy their artwork?
Did you just buy high grade CGC comics to ensure excellent condition and now you plan to smash open the cases in order to read the books (which I'm told some collectors do) or will your collection remain sealed in their CGC cases? In which case, don’t you want to read your purchases?
Just to be clear, I'm not being funny about this...I'm genuinely interested in your thoughts on this matter.

Well, even though it's never been reprinted, ASSq is still pretty dirt cheap and might actually be cheaper to buy in back issue form than in collection form. As I mentioned in another thread, I recently bought the entire run plus annuals for $75. Compared to the cost of a few 9.8's, that's not a whole lot, so buying doubles probably isn't a problem.
Plus, he might have read them before they were sent to CGC.

Yep...
Come on Confessor, let's say you're gifted with a 9.0 Action Comics #1 in a slab, would you let 3 of your best CGC-hating buddies from this board do something like this, in the link below, just cuz they want to...you know...read it??? I mean, same principle, it's slabbed man...

Although you say you're not being funny about it, I would highly advise him not to "smash open" the cases, as you put it. IF he wanted to remove them from the cases he should do so properly. But given the fact that he obviously cherry picked a very high grade run, I would leave them as is in the case. He can get reader copies in 50 cent and dollar bins.

Right...so actually, even though those issues are all 9.8s, they probably didn't set the OP back all that much...at least comparatively speaking.
I did what Scott Harris did.

Ah, I see...that explains that then. To be honest, I didn't realise how cheap to pick up those issues were. Also, I think I sort of thought that they were older than they were.
My line of thought was that if they were hard or expensive to obtain – and had never been reprinted – then it presented a rather interesting dilemma for a fan of the series who had purchased his collection in CGC slabs. But never mind, as you were…

...and that needed saying because it wasn't obvious?

I bought the entire run at the time is was released . Nice series that was derailed by the crisis. But i could never buy a book I can't read.

Great series, and probably a unique collection being that it is such a high CGC graded run!
I came to All Star Squadron after having read Roy Thomas' Invaders for Marvel. I know that it would probably run you a lot more, but it would be pretty cool to get that one in high CGC too.
One of my goals is to put together a full run of all the "golden age/Earth 2, etc." revamps from Marvel and DC from the 70s and 80s, including All Star Squadron, Freedom Fighters, All Star Comics, Invaders, Liberty Legion. I'm almost there, alas not in the condition you have shown us...

That was a great series - I wanted to include it in the 12 days of Christmas countdown, but if I recall Jerry Ordway inked himself.

I'll probably buy the Showcase, although I think it reprints most of the issues I already have. I stopped buying All-Star Squadron somewhere in the middle of the run, but I picked it up again toward the end.
I've always meant to fill in the missing issues, but I don't think I would buy slabbed issues, because I want the comics just for reading--and I feel conflicted about opening up slabbed comics.

Only on #19-20 and Annual 2. The rest were inked by Mike Machlan and Rick Magyar.

I was being genuine about my interest in what the OP planned to do with his collection, but that doesn't lessen the redundancy of your response. Your post contained sensible advice, but kinda blindingly obvious at the same time. But hey-ho, whatever...it's small beans really.
