I will start it off. First john wayne as the ringo kid in stage coach. Fires his rifle close up yelling hold it. many say the Duke became a star then and there.
Villian has to be harry Lime {orson wells} in the third man. Light shines in the door way and we finaly get to see one of the cooist villians in movie history. great music went along with his entrance. third would be the middle ground, hero and or villian. The duke again this time in the searches. Cabin door opens and we see a lone rider coming closer as the music swells. many consider this to be america's greatest movie. {Citizen kane fans have a right to complain!] Wayme plays the clasic anti- hero a racist bigot who lives on hate. hated for indians, for his own brother for marrying the only person he could love. at the time the movie was panned for it;s harsh and brutal themes.

Huh?

Darth Vader coming through the smoky door on the rebel ship at the begginning of Star Wars.

Hero entrance: Dr. Jones.

In Raiders of the lost Ark. The whole begining sequence showed how bad ass Dr. jones is, and the mvoie still has more moments.

Villian: I say Darth Vader also. He was the coolest in the orignal Star Wars triology.

One of the best entrance scenes for any character would have to be Quint in Jaws, when he scrapes his fingernails down the chalk board, and then gives his speach about sharks. Awsome scene.

My personal favorite? Christopher Reeve as Clark Kent in SUPERMAN. It just works so well and sets up Superman's eventual entrance beautifully.

You're right, that was pretty cool. I also like the way he nibbles on that cracker.

My favorite is actually the first transformation from Clark Kent to Superman as he runs into the camera and opens his shirt, filling the screen with the big S. Gives me goosebumps everytime I watch it, it's so perfect.

"Say Jim, that's a bad out-fit!! Whoo!"

Hero: Either Spiderman or Superman taking the outer shirts off, or movie Hulk being transformed.

Villain: Either Kingpin or Darth Vader.

I'm probably one of the few but I thought Bruce Banner turning into the Hulk both on TV and the Film was pretty cool.

You know when the crystal mask turns and we see Superman for the first time thru the eye slits. How about an object. First shot of lord vaders ship after the credits in star wars? The first shot of the phantom in the silent version of the phantom of the opera. Channy at his best, hard to believe he did his own make up! Remember the first time we saw King Kong coming thru the trees!

What a tough choice, I think its harder for a hero to make an entrance than a villian, because we usually know who the hero is before their big entrance, but 2 hero ents that i love are S. Weaver in Aliens when she appears in the loader "Get away from her you bitch" & Arnold in T-2 as he walking down the hallway with the box of roses when he discards & pulls ou tht elever action shotgun.
Villian ents would have to be Darth Vader's 1st apearance in ANH & Tommy Lee Jones opening monologue/scene in Batman Forever. A great scene, opening the movie on such a high, which unfortunatly the movie never hits again.

I've always been kind of partial to Jack Nicholson's first appearance as The Joker to Jack Palance in Batman

When we first watched Star Wars, was it REALLY that great, or is that the rose tinted glasses we have on.

I mean...he just stepped clumsily through a door with a generic camera angle on him. Nothing that big. No cool lighting, angles, or anything to help it out. It COULD have been spectacular.

One of my favourite entrances for some reason is John Turtorro's character in "The Big Lebowski". Something about the slow-mo bowling and "Hotel California" in the background. I loved it.

I'm going to have to second Jesus Quintana from "The Big Lebowski." His introduction mananges to make me both laugh and feel sleazy, which is an accomplishment AND completely sums up the character.

Also, I've always loved Rob Lowe's intro in "Tommy Boy." In about 30 seconds, he's established as the biggest jerk imaginable, and it's funny as hell.

I think the music, the costume, and the shoot-out that just preceded it are what sells it. Of course, it would be ten times more awesome if someone like Robert Rodriguez filmed it today, but hey, it was 1977 and a shoestring budget.

Henry Fonda's entrance in Once Upon A Time in The West was pretty freaking scary. Sergio Leone knows how to direct an entrance.

for hero intro i'd say Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean.

The headless horseman was cool in sleepy hollow.

dammit 3 pages and I get beaten to Jack Sparrow by one post!!!

my favourite terminator entrace would probably be when Arnold jumps his bike into that drainage ditch just in time to save John from the CABOVER OF DOOOOOOOM!!!

Another good entrance would be in the Matrix, when Morphius is being interrogated, clanging music starts, Agents pause to check earphones, clanging getting even clangier as Neo's boots clear the entrance, metal detector cries bloody murder, Neo whips open the coat revealing himself to be a walking armoury.... Cue the Lobby Scene.

Now, Neo is in the movie a lot before this but to me this is the first part where he "shows up" lol.

I would like to say that Il Duche has about 3 ofthe greatest entrances ever lol. I'd list but I dont' want to spoil anything about Boondock Saints, for it is glorious. And I hope the sequel doesn't take long to make.

For villains how about those AT-AT's from ESB? I mean give Vader his due but that was some crazy shit.

You know Darth Maul I felt had some really great ones. I know TPM is almost universally hated but I really loved that part when the big door opens and there he is like Doom itself, and the Jedi are all "No one told us there was gonna be a party" and they know it's on so they remove extraneous robes and crap... that was cool.

couple good anime ones: Tessai from Ninja Scroll, Vicious from Cowboy Bebop, Le fou Pierot or whatever from the same.

Captain Jack Sparrow!

Pinhead & the other three Cenobites putting the pieces of Frank's face together after he was ripped apart in the opening of Hellraiser.

The first scene in JAWS when Chrissie meets a 25 foot great white shark in the ocean after the guy passes out on the beach. The music & we, the audience, having the shark's perspective is just spooky since we never see the shark itself in the scene.

The scene where the woman & her brother drive up to cemetary in Night of the Living Dead. Nothing awful happens, but the long shot of the car just driving to the cemetary sets the tone for the film.

Though I'm not a huge Trek fan, I have to give props to two Trek entrances:

the scraggly Bones in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, who immediately starts bitching as soon as he arrives on the Enterprise.

and

The Borg Queen in Star Trek: First Contact. Having her head and shoulders lowered into her body was a nice little innovation I thought.

Can't recall if it was his entrance in the movie or a later scene, but I always thought Yul Brynner stalking silently down the corridor in Westworld was very impressive. He really projected an aura of menace that was perfect for the "character" (a malfunctioning robot ina n amusement park that was supposed to provide safe recreations of historical adventures for rich clients).

Charles Bronson's in Once Upon a Time in the West was awesome too. The whole scene leading up to it, before eh appears, is of course a cinematic classic.

Grant said:

Yeah it's a great scene but I think Fonda has him beat. We're used to seeing Charles Bronson being a bad ass. Seeing Henry Fonda as a sociopath was more impressive and unexpected. Jason Robard's entrance is pretty awesome too.

Didn't catch it. I don't watch much late night tv because of my work schedule.

In 'Elizabeth', the blond priest sent to kill Elizabeth; he's walking down the corridor, black robes bellowing, crossing himself, and you know he's on a mission. That's just so cool/creepy/awesome.

Can't think of a hero entrance, though.

I'm going to go with Clint Eastwood's entrance into the bar at the end of "Unforgiven". Although we'd seen the character before, this was the first time we saw the "real" Will Munny (sp.?), "killer of women and children". Hero or villian? Some of both, I guess.

Some other good ones -
Tim Curry in "Rocky Horror Picture Show"
Boris Karloff in "Frankenstein"

I'd also liked that one. Everybody had a "Oh shit" look on thier face when the door opened. And you noticed how nobody spoke up to offer thier help when Quin-Gon said "We'll handle this."

Even though it's not really an introduction, I'd always liked the beginning of Lethal Weapon 2. It let you know right away you was in for a ride.

Hero entrance: I'd say Spidey's in Spider-Man 1 when he slingshots himself through the air and onto that iron barred complex to face the Green Goblin.

Villain entrance: ? Can't think of one.

The Joker
04-13-2005, 05:29 AM
Hero: My initial vote goes to Superman. But I love the first shot of Keaton in the batsuit when he scares those two guys who robbed the family in the alley. Just a very impressive shot. Keaton looks absolutely huge.

Villian: Darth Vader. Although I do really, really like Nicholson's entrance as The Joker. Especially the whole mirror sequence. But the sequence where he kills Grissom is nicely done too. :D :)

"Instead of"? But a dead William Holden did narrate the story. He was seen floating in the swimming pool, instead of being wheeled into the morgue. And as for the suits and censors nixing the morgue scene: That ain't the way I heerd it, Johnny. The story I've always read (as far back as the late 70's) was the morgue scene was shot, but preview audiences laughed at it, so the opening had to be reshot.

Hero: Neo in the Burly Brawl at the end of Revolutions. It was like a High Noon showdown made worse by the fact that everyone in town was the Bad Guy. :D

Villain: Agent Smith in The Matrix Reloaded. Just walking on that roof with those pigeons flying out of the way as if they knew that it would be best to get out of his way.

I'll concur with the others on Vader, that scene used to give me goosebumps as a kid.

But as for a comedic role, I'm not even a guy and I'll say how much I love Shannon Elizabeth's entrance in "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back". I wish I could have that entrance whever I walk into a room: Wind machine, sunshine and Bon Jovi's "Bad Medicine." MmmHmm.

OK, I'm going to try to keep this pure; a list of FIRST appearances only in a movie...

- Darth Vader in STAR WARS
- Robocop walks down the hall of the precinct in ROBOCOP
- Wolverine's cage fight in X-MEN
- Clark opens his shirt revealing the S in SUPERMAN
- The T-Rex in JURASSIC PARK
- The shark in JAWS ("We're gonna need a bigger boat.")
- The Mariachi in DESPERADO
- Indiana Jones in RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (after whipping the gun away)
- O'Ren in KILL BILL vol. I
- Hans Gruber walks out of the truck in DIE HARD

I'm sure there's a bunch more that I've forgotten...
