The one that killed Superman not many super villains can brag about that.

Does anyone else think he wasn't made for more appearnces?
Adapts to his foes, can't be killed the same way twice.

He killed Superman. For that, I appreciate him, more than words can adequately express. Too bad he didn't do a better job.
I kid, I kid!

I have mixed feelings about Doomsday. His first appearance in The Death of Superman was rather terrific. I mean, the extent of the devastation he and Superman left in their wake was staggering. I thought it was really effective.
But I feel with each passing story, Doomsday loses something. He's a character burdened by the knowledge that he'll probably never top that achievement again. And unlike villains such as Luthor or Zod, there's aren't exactly many places to take him. He's an unstoppable killing machine, full stop.

So at the end of hunter/ prey when waverider takes doomsday to the end of time and he disolves into nothing.....how did he come back from that?

Bad Writing, no respect for continuity, or the same as defeats of Darkseid they have been retconned.

So he's one dimensional, and can't outdo what he did early in his super villain career which was kill the Man of Steel Superman.

If I recall, Brainiac saved him from entropy to use as a vessel in "The Doomsday Wars".
From there, Superman trapped him in a teleportation loop on the moon, so that he would never be conscious. Was later released to fight Imperiex in Our Worlds at War and reduced to nothing but a skeleton. Regrown by Luthor, Traded to Darkseid for a war debt, yadda yadda yadda.
I loved the character in Death of. And I loved the character even more in Hunter/Prey as it was a fantastic story. But they should have left him in entropy.

The way he's been used lately has been terrible. Like in New Krypton, where he's literally dropped in so he can get beat up in fifteen seconds by a mob of Kryptonians, just to make the point that a big problem for one Superman is a minor inconvenience for a hundred supermen.
He's a one trick pony who can't be allowed to do his trick again. He should have been retired as a villain, but he can keep serving as a plot device for the mad science crowd to create some Doomsday-derivative hero fodder.

I like Doomsday as a mindless force of nature that takes the ultimate sacrifice to stop.

Hunter/Prey was an alright story, but as a concept it was an absolute mistake.
Doomsday would have been better served if his origins and nature had remained a mystery. He should have remained as mysterious and incomprehensible as he was unstoppable.

Well like I said I think the problem is since he can adapt, and can't be killed the same way twice.

One of the questions I've often had and haven't seen the answer to, is which of the Superteam artists gave Doomsday his character design?
He certainly has the mass of a Bog design, the way the face and bones work suggest Jurgens to me, the way he is best positioned on a page reminds me of Grummett....The cover to Adventures of Superman where Supes is smashing into Doomsday is my favorite if that great five issue cover progression.
I like Doomsday. I am okay with the stories he's been in...its always going to be that way with a character....you may or may not like a creative teams particular take on the character or the story that gets told.
I do agree that his impact is diminished when he is over used. I have often thought that the Cyborg Superman was a better recurring villain.
I will always think the originals were great stories.

I would guess they saw the Hulk, and decided to combine to add something else that would prevent him from being called a Hulk rip off along with the ability to adapt.

I've always liked Doomsday...the unstoppable force that killed Superman. He was a great villain that pushed Superman to his limits. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if Doomsday probably should've been a one-use villain. I'm not sure if there was much more that could've been him though. He was a perfect match for Superman's power level at that time, where Superman was the strongest hero on earth, but not too strong where he couldn't have a good old fashioned brawl with powerful aliens.

I think the problem is that writers don't know what to do with Doomsday anymore.
Me, I would thrown Doomsday in another setting. Say, Doomsday vs The Green Lantern Corps?
Doomsday: Year One showed us he has a past story with the Corps. He was the responsible for a mass slaughter of Green Lanterns eons past. He stole a ring from a Corpsman and went on a murderous rampage though the Corps until The Guardians had to show up and stop him.
So we could have a story where Doomsday shows up on a alien planet, kills a Corpsman, takes his ring, goes on a rampage though the universe, Green Lanterns hunt him down, Earth GLs call Superman to help, as he is the person who knows best how to fight Doomsday, for he is one who has fought him many times and still lives. Of course, drawn by the sheer power of the monster, other groups could also move to obtain Doomsday's power. Writen right, it could be epic.

I think he was created to kill Superman nothing more.
THe problem with that he did something so terrible so fast Killing Superman that he hasn't been able to do anything since then.

Much like Bane and Venom, Doomsday's best days are behind him, but I welcome an appearance by him every few years.

Doomsday should have ended after Death of Superman and remained a mystery.
Everything since then has cheapened the character . I viewed him as a natural disaster and a once in a lifetime villain without a cause. Leave him outta the New 52.

So he's a magician that can do his best trick only once.

I like Doomsday, and I think he needs not to be forgotten. He's the monster that killed Superman and gave him Nightmares. Doomsday gave Superman nightmares. Lex Luthor didn't make Superman have nightmares. Brainiac didn't make Superman have nightmares. Doomsday did. That alone makes him badass.
I think he should be used rarely, but when he comes, the world should tremble and dread at the coming of Doomsday!

If you look online, the credit is to Dan Jurgens, but I believe it was Jerry Ordway and Dennis Janke or Dennis Rodier who did the actual creation, but Jurgens fleshed him out.

THe one way I thought to make him original is have some super villain put something on him, and make him a enforcer for some super villain.
