My big fear with this book was that they'd spend it setting up the last 10 years, trying to pretend that Wanda's always been a crazy pyschotic killer, as opposed to it coming out of left field a decade ago.

Fortunately, that didn't happen. Unfortunately, I still don't think it measured up to the Origins issues for the previous two classic Avengers. (I didn't bother with Luke Cage's, so can't compare.)

I'm generally a McKeever fan, but I think what he tried to do with the issue didn't quite work.

Where Ant-Man and Wasp and Vision's stories added little new to the origins, this gave us a bit more new detail (at least as far as I know; I don't remember a lot of these details previously). Unfortunately, where those two previous issues made up for the lack of content by trying for a more "prestige" feel -- with painted art, and a script that intentionally played with language and mood -- I think this was a more straight-forward take on the siblings and their origin.

I did think it was interesting that Pietro often seemed to come across as more heroic, being against Magneto far earlier than Wanda. Considering the latter's generally the more heroic of the two (well, at least used to be), I thought it was an interesting take to show her being a bit more hoodwinked by Magneto. Granted, I don't think Pietro's problems came from an innate desire to do good, but I still thought it was interesting to see him being the voice of reason. That's definitely not his usual role.

All in all, though, I've enjoyed this mini. I'd be thrilled if they'd do a few more "second-tier" classic Avengers (I'll probably skip Thor, but I'd love, say, Black Knight, Simon, Tigra, even Warbird)...

I'll be honest, I thought this was the best of the Origins so far. It didn't rehash old ground. Vision and Luke Cage were both just retellings of their first issues, which felt really lame. Ant-Man and the Wasp was fantastic, for much the same reason this was. Rather than just reshowing what we've already seen, they gave us a lot of new stuff.

So yeah, this was really, really good. Definitely better than Luke Cage or the Vision.

I liked it. I liked the expanding on what their lives were like before the brotherhood especially. Usually their origins (that I've read) have them happy before the fire and magneto, which makes their paranoia weird.

In regards to Quicksilver, I read part of the Kooky Quartet and the first few X-Men issues fairly recently, and from what I remember he was kinda like this. He wanted to leave Magneto, he didn't want to kill, he wanted to be a hero and a good team player. He was overprotective and impatient, but no more than Hawkeye was a tackless ass, and he admired Cap a lot. Actually if I remember correctly he was the one who brought up leaving Magneto first, and Wanda's reason for staying was that they owed him a debt. Then they left, I think, because magneto was kidnapped by the Stranger.

It's just that he got more crazy very early on. I think they went back to Magneto the first time on his say-so.

Only thing that bothered me here was that they seem to imply that Magneto knew they were his kids, or at least, that he heavily suspected. Which makes everything he does that much worse (hitting on Wanda? Pimping her to Namor?). Also the stuff with their mom who I think left them when they were babies, not even toddlers.

Decent issue. Pietro as the overprotective brother gimmick was in full effect..Wanda being trusting of Silver Age Magneto. The weird stuff with Pietro wanting to see his hair and if it matched up was odd. It SEEMED like they were going to act like Magneto knew they were his kids but that just doesn't make any sense if you've read Vision and Scarlet Witch reveal issue from the 80s.

I still there is an untold story or two to tell about Magda.

Exactly how does a heavily pregnant woman climb a mountain in the middle of a severe snow storm and find the only kitchen door within miles to knock on?

I'm thinking she was drawn there or chose to go there because of Ch'Thon.

One thing they did not address is, given the sliding time scale in the Marvel Universe, how old Magneto is and yet how young Pietro and Wanda are. We all know that Magneto's origins are connected with the concentration camps of WW2, and yet the twins are still in their late twenties/early thirties.

I'm thinking that Pietro and Wanda were held in stasis by the High Evolutinary for a few years/decades, much like Jessica Drew was in her orginal origin story.

I am hoping that Marvel continues to publish more of these Avengers Origins books. Ms Marvel definately needs one even though she had a solo series which ended a couple of years ago. Black Knight would be another, but only if he were to be given more of a spotlight in the current MU. Add to this list, Quasar, Mantis, Firestar, Wonder-Man and Dr Strange.

I liked the part where Wanda was naked :) But in all seriousness, I randomly picked this up today for something to read on the train because all the trades I wanted were too expensive. Enjoyed both the story and the art.

I think this is canon now--that H.E. held them in stasis (I believe it hasn't been mentioned in a book though only in a Handbook update). If this was the first of a miniseries I would definitely want more exploration of some of these setups.

Perhaps Magda wasn't last seen wandering back out into the blizzard. Maybe she came back and visited the twins while in stasis and that accounts for Pietro's toddler dream?

I did like them addressing that neither one feels like a part of the "mutant community" to explain why they are more comfortable with Avengers than X-men.

I would have to agree to me this was the best origins with vision coming in second. the reason I liked this one so much was that I never really knew much about quicksilver and I always thought he was more of a daddy's boy and followed Magneto. But this just showed me that he had a mind of his own and he was kind of his person.

And I will always love the Pietro Wanda relationship. Pietro is like the best older brother a person could ask for.
