Or just any storyline that combines all of the Marvel superheroes against all of the Marvel supervillians. I think the time is ripe.

Do it Marvel.

Play Ultimate Alliance and your problem is solved. In fact, it's more than solved.

Secret Wars III (http://marvel.wikia.com/Fantastic_Four_Vol_1_319)

Available in your local back issue bin.

Yeah, it wouldn't exactly be Secret Wars 3. Really, even Secret Wars 2 wasn't a big hero vs villain storyline.

I actually would like to see a big hero vs villain rumble... it's a bit simplistic and old school as far as a story goes, but that sort of thing can be fun once in awhile too.

It won't happen, at least not without a stupid hook a writer will exploit for half a year before a one issue fight/resolution. Or, if we're lucky, the resolution will be pushed into 2 maxi-series after the event!

It would be nice for a bunch of A-List heroes such as Avengers, FF, Spiderman, X-Men… etc all team up against A-List heroes like Dr Doom, Magneto, Loki… etc. In the original Secret Wars, the interaction between the heroes was good to see, as well as the dynamics between the villains. If they do an updated Secret Wars, I don't want a bunch of nobodies being led by one or two recognisable characters.

Bring back Shooter.
Ehh, no thanks.

Beyond seemed to be the closest to it although it's cast wasn't as extensive as the first Secret Wars. That being said, I'd love to see another writer do another sort of iteration of it since similarly to Infinity Gauntlet it's basically cosmic meets the MU.

Bring back Shooter.

Seconded. Shooter's reign as EiC was the best era for Marvel. Right now would be the perfect time to bring his genius to Marvel.

Shooter ran a tight ship where no deadlines were missed and stories were heavily edited. It was great for the readers. However, creators had a problem with his dictatorial reign as EIC.

I agree. Marvel would do well with Shooter back.

I dont care if its good for creators...it needs to be great for the fans.

But if he ends up driving off some great creators, then it may not be good for the fans.

Shooter had his good points, but I think an ideal EIC should be able to find a better middle ground between running a tight ship and offering his talent some level of creative freedom.

But the creators he ran off were basically overrated giant egomaniacal windbags like Byrne and others of that nature so it was all good.

I thought it was Dark Reign.

Neither Siege nor Dark Reign were really similar to Secret Wars in the hero vs villain aspect.

Dark Reign was a banner, not an event. It was basically a crossover between Norman Osborn and the rest of the Marvel Universe for 12 months. There was no big teamup between the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men and the rest. For the most part, individual titles were pretty isolated from each other.

While Siege was more of a traditional hero vs villain fight, it really only involved the Avengers-related teams. There was Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, the New Avengers, what was left of the Mighty Avengers, the Secret Warriors and the Young Avengers going up against the Dark Avengers, the Thunderbolts and the Initiative. The Fantastic Four and X-Men were shown watching Norman's unmasking on TV. They weren't even there!

Personally, I'd love to see another Secret Wars-style crossover - all the major heroes versus all the major villains. It hasn't been done for ages.

I'd only read a Secret Wars III if Cullen Bunn was a part of the process. He actually gets that superheroes have superpowers and without letting that fact hurt the story.

Otherwise, most writers would bore us to death.

These thing's need to be talked about on all levels, not just on a characterization level. We need (more) legitimate brouhahas.

No, it wasn't great for readers, it was downright awful if you bought series regularly. Some series were so bad that Shooter killed the Marvel zombie (meaning the Marvel fan that bought all Marvel series) like US 1.
Nearly all the major series had their worst period under Shooter: Denny O'Neil's Spider-Man, Thor from 1980 to 1983, FF by Moench and Sienkiewicz, six months and fill-in issues for Iron Man, fill-in issues and arcs on ASM circa 1986-1987, no regular team for Captain America between Stern and DeMatteis, etc. Very poor DD issues before and after Miller.

Have characters forgiven Fury yet? I'm reading some of my old back issues, and I'm half way through Secret Wars, and I'm just remembering what a dick Fury was. Seriously are heroes cool with him now or do most people still view him as a huge dick?

You should play Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2; Fury was the ultimate dick in that game. He made you take on tasks and then be ungrateful towards you. You couldn't win with the guy. :frown:

Fury has been an S.O.B for quite a while i really don't know when it happened actually.

I'm kind of scared we are gonna be seeing it in the Avengers movie.

I would absolutely love to see a Secret Wars III done at some point. I really enjoyed the first one, and I didn't even think the second was too bad. My hope would be it was done in the tradition of the first one.

Writer: Kurt Busiek

there was also hood and his gang among the villains, and they are a big chunk of the b listers villains of the universe. plus there was also dani of the new mutants.
siege was as close as we can get to an all brawl of the heroes versus the villains in the mu. i agree it should have been bigger: they should have merged it with second coming to include the x-men...
