View Full Version : DCU: NEW DAWN Solicitations November 2011 (Premiere Month!)

TJKernan
11-05-2011, 12:47 AM
Welcome to the inaugural month of DCU: New Dawn!

DC Comics has graciously provided CBR with solicit information for their new line of first issues, the first in their revamped universe, product shipping November 2011.

Please VOTE by posting a list of titles that pique your interest, tickle your tastes, and catch your eye enough so that you would buy this month. The only caveat...you cannot purchase them all (use your actual monthly budget as your constraint!).

Also please feel free to discuss these solicitations in this thread after you post your list. All titles are safe this month, as this is just our beginning, but titles which have the lowest readership over the first three months may well find themselves in jeopardy.

Remember, this is a complete recreation of the DCU. For the most part, the concepts and origins of these characters remain similar to the previous MU, however reasonable details and circumstances can be changed to make them fit into our new tapestry. For the concepts and characters featured in each title, please refer to this thread...

HERE (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=390175)

Note: Plotters are required to participate in this process. Show some affection for your other plotters! (Note, you can not purchase your own titles)

Also please note, several of our titles were not made available by designated press time, and will be solicited next month in a second round of first issues.

THANKS FOR READING AND PARTICIPATING!

All of this month's inaugural issues are a glorious 32 pages and we always tow the line at $2.99!

Ah. Okay. I wasn't sure what the solicitations would look like... now I know how to tailor the next issues...

My choices this time?

Aqua Friends
More Fun Comics
The Wonder of Shazam
Secret Six

Keep in mind, I'm unemployed, so my 'comics budget' is currently nil. I think four is a fair amount(?) but if you all think I should choose more, please let me know and I will.

Power Torch
11-05-2011, 01:49 AM
Outsiders #1 (for Starling)
and maybe the Planet #1

But I really dont care for any of the titles, they all sound good, but I like that dc has now.

We should all have decided ratings and prices, that would make chosing simpler. We have to repair for next month.
I'll take:
Ragnarøkkr #1
Action Comics #1
Wonder Woman #1
Secret Six #1 (probably the best solicitation of this bunch, great work Cooper)
Outlaws #1
JL: World's Finest #1

But I really dont care for any of the titles, they all sound good, but I like that dc has now.

The Planet--Jimmy & Chloe...yay! I've wanted more of them since their back-up in Action
ended.

The Wonder of SHAZAM! I hope Osiris & Isis are in it--I miss them! :frown:

Secret Six--Go, Catman!

Yeah, next month's solicitations are going to be exactly like the ones you sent to me. They were perfect, and I had to kinda dummy them down to match everyone elses. We will all follow that standard prototype when the concept is honed and refined.

Pull list:
Aqua Friends
Outsiders
Action Comics
Ragnarokkr
Justice League: World's Finest
Secret Six
Wonder Woman
Outlaws

Aqua Friends - Might be worth looking at, depending on Stewart's approach with the art. I'd try the first issue, at least.

Outsiders - I like team books. Might be good.

Action Comics - I like team books. Might be good.

Ragnarokkr - Sure, I like Ice.

The Planet - I'm assuming you mean Black Canary, so, yeah. Edit: It's NOT Black Canary?? Cancel that order!

Justice League: World's Finest - Sounds good.

The Wonder of SHAZAM - Nah, the art and story just don't interest me.

Changeling - Sounds like a good choice of artist for the scenario. But I'm not interested in the scenario.

Secret Six - Sure, why not.

Nemesis: Hellbringer - Doesn't sound promising.

The Offensive - Nope. Not interested.

Wonder Woman - Sure. Sounds a lot better than the current comic.

Impulse - Doesn't really interest me.

The Outlaws - ... Hard to say. I'd take a good look at it, but I might drop it quick.

More Fun Comics - Sorry, pass.

No I did not mean it that way, I meant that I like the titles DC has, I was not trying to say that you were trying to do better, I was just saying that I really dont care for much of the titles you guys made, and that I like the titles DC has, I was not trying to say anything about you trying to be better the DC or anything.

I was just trying to say that the titles you guys made are not my thing, so I would not be buying much of them, unlike the titles DC have now where I am buying many.

Sorry if that came off in a bad way.

I'd like to thank all participants, both readers and plotters. I'd say we are off to a successful venture, and I am excited. Remember, anybody who wants to write a title (and we have plenty of characters still unexplored-Lanterns of all spectrums, Magic characters, horror, and plenty of heroes still unexplored) can still pitch it and get it in in time for the December Solicitations.

My Pulls are all in bold.
Aqua Friends - Just have never been able to hop of an aquatic gravy-train.

Outsiders - Midnighter.

Action Comics - Nightshade and Blue Beetle. In. As long as it isn't L.A.W.

Ragnarokkr - This series sounds very interesting.

The Planet - The Supes mythos characters never really grabbed me.

Justice League: World's Finest - Sounds good, gotta check out all the big guys in action, plus some of my favorite second-tier leaguers are being brought in first arc!

The Wonder of SHAZAM - Gonna give this a try. Captain Whitebread is a very hit and miss for me....

Changeling - Um, gonna try it cuz of the Neg Man and classic connection to Doom Patrol. Hope it gets weird. This is a bubble-title for me.

Secret Six - Hellz yeah. Like everything about this. love my villains, and the creators.

Nemesis: Hellbringer - I really think people are underselling this title here. If you don't know anything about the character I would suggest checking her out before making your decision. This is my sleeper.

The Offensive - Yes, Yes, Yes. Everything about this title has me interested. The one title, more than any other, I am excited to read...

Wonder Woman - Can't do it. Wonder Woman just bores me to tears. She needs a great hook to bring me in. Tried over many incarnations to read her, but she just has never brought me in...

Impulse - Doesn't really interest me.

To get me to check out WW, she would need a creative duo willing to get wonderful with intense and brutal action, complex characters, lovely art, and a well toned story. But I know, when does that happen.

Action Comics #1 sounds like my favorite
Ragnarøkkr #1 gets the Ryan Sook nod
The Planet #1 sounds like the kinda Winick comics I try
Justice League: World's Finest #1 would be great in trade form
The Wonder of SHAZAM #1 has something DC has been missing
SECRET SIX #1 is quirky enough to check out

also, Nemesis just doesn't have the name recognition some of the other titles do.

I would have to agree in this case, simply because the proposed plot is very weak. It's a plot that could really only draw interest if the character was very popular.

I'm quick to sign up for a series with a female lead with good art, given a solid plot, with the character trying to accomplish a purpose of some sort. This just sounds like an aimless free-for-all. (This is why I didn't buy Voodoo. A little known character in a mysterious, intentionally vague, or just plain weak plot.)

I am a mid-tier kinda guy too, and I am alright with that. Slightly lesser expectations mean more creative freedom! =)

Jesus christ, you really didn't like it. Care to explain a little better so I can see my errors? What do you mean free-for-all?

EDIT:
Found some definitions...
free-for-all: A noisy fight in a crowd / A quarrel, fight, or disturbance marked by very noisy, disorderly, and often violent behavior

Practically you're saying that it's sounds like a dumb action comic book? Is that the problem?

Well, the plot is basically: Whoops. Accidentally caused a lot of destruction, pissed off a lot of people... fight! There's nothing there to actually make me care about the character. Kind of sounds like the humans are justified in trying to take her out.

Ok, I can get that.

Well, actually, they are.
TJ linked the thread with the series description.
Description: [...] has been sent on Earth. It is a secret mission... An hostile secret mission. But Earth is [...]

BTW, I'm not arguing with you, you're right, I wanted to do things with a little calm, explain her mission and role as the issues progress, Instead I should have probably stated her allignment right of the bat.

Gah! I just found out that the "Canary" in the Planet series is not Black Canary. This cannot be forgiven! Order canceled.
