View Full Version : How would you recreate the Brotherhood?

I'd personally love to see a new Brotherhood of Mutants, updated to the current times in mutant affairs.

How would you like to see them make a come back and become a force to be reckoned with again?

Here's my idea:

Magneto, having established a new point of view on mutant affairs during his time on Utopia, and despite learning humility and a different outlook under Cyclops' leadership, still believes his view is the absolute right way to do things, and taking a page out of Cyclops' book, forms his own secret team of "agents" to undertake a guerilla style war against human oppression.

If their existence was known, they'd be viewed as "terrorists" by the world at large, and Magneto would lose all the respect and trust he has gained from the X-Men, and again become public enemy number one, and be back to where he was before Utopia, and that's with nothing.

Magneto's ultimate plan is to establish Genosha as an alternative residence for mutants, or a second beachhead for the mutant resistance. Magneto see's faults in Utopia with all the recent disasters befalling it, and despite Cyclops achieving all he's achieved, Magneto arrogantly believes he can do it better, and kick starting Genosha is just the way to prove it.

The vital tool in all this is the presence of the Scarlet Witch back at the side of Magneto, promising to heal all depowered mutants in the world, and offer them a new home on Genosha. Wanda seeks redemption, and now more than ever truly believes in her fathers vision and wants to see it complete.

The first obstacle, as Magneto see's it, is the human's Sentinel program. It's not enough to simply respond to their attacks when they are unleashed. They have to eliminate the factories that build them, the supply chains, the government officials who authorise their use, and the scientists and engineers that design them.

For that, he'll need his own personal version of X-Force, to eliminate the targets that Magneto deems necessary. He'll need a new Brotherhood.....

The New Brotherhood

Exodus:

As Magneto can't partake in these missions himself, he needs someone who shares his vision, is a capable leader, and is a powerhouse to rival himself. And for that, he turns to his former protege and devoted follower, Exodus.

Exodus is a beast. His telepathy rivals Xavier's in terms of raw power and skill. His telekinesis is world-class. Only Pheonix-Force weilders, Shaman-level Nate Grey and Messiah-level Cable can surpass his TK might. Throw in the fact he's centuries old, giving him vital combat and leadership experience, makes Exodus the perfect general for Magneto's new army.

Mystique:

Deep ties to Magneto, and a belief in his vision make her Magneto's right-hand woman. She is the recruiter, the under-cover agent, information gatherer and the go-between through which Magneto and Exodus formulate their covert activities (telepathic contact is limited while Magneto is on Utopia under the gaze of Xavier, Emma and the hundred other telepaths on the island.)

Her skill, cunning, versatility and experience are legendary, and all but Exodus answer to her.

Mr X

Magneto knows that his former incarnations of the Brotherhood have at times proved rather ineffective in combat, and the individuals he's chosen have been ill prepared for such delicate missions. So this time around he wishes to see his soldiers trained to their utmost potential.

Hearing stories of Mr X's fighting prowess, and that he's also a mutant, Magneto enlists Mr X's aid in training his soldiers how to fight. Mr X knows of Magneto, and see's power he's rarely seen. A potential opponent who he could aspire to defeat in combat, should he one day become that powerful a warrior. X's delusions of grandeur, coupled with the challenge of training superpowered warriors in the deadly use of their powers is enough to lure Mr X to the Brotherhood's cause, taking the role of combat trainer.

Avalanche

An experienced Brotherhood member, Avalanche, having been trained to his potental by Mr X, is deadlier than ever. He's unlocked his full potential, and realises the true power at his command. His control over earth and rock is on a molecular level, where not only are his earthquakes are more powerful, he can actually manipulate rock and earth to create constructs, such as hundreds of rock-soldiers under his command, giant fists or other complicated structures like cages, castles, spikes etc.

He's also developed his vibrational powers with his new fighting skills, kind of like an "Earthquake-Kung Fu", where his punches are powered by massive vibrational shockwaves the equivalent of an mini-earthquake, or when he grabs an opponent he can channel massive vibrational shockwaves into their bodies, liquifying their insides.

Blob

Blob's power has been restored by Wanda, and under Mr X's training, his control over his power has magnified. He has undergone intense Sumo training, which may seem comical at first, but now he has a full understanding about centre of gravity, body weight transfer, energy absorption and balance/counter weight, this makes him a true beast in close quarter combat.

Having felt lost and abandoned by the world after losing his powers, Dukes is fanatically loyal to Magneto, and Wanda, for the return of his powers, and a new lease on life. To the Blob, this mission for the Brotherhood is everything. Without the Brotherhood, he was nothing. So for him there's no going back.

Toad

Magneto has a soft spot for Toad, so he gives him one last shot at redemption, and a chance to mean something. A chance in which he jumps at. Toad undergoes vigorous training under Mr X's cruel tutelage, but when he comes out the other end of the this near death experience, he is a truly formidable opponent.

His strength, speed, reaction time and agility are all boosted by his training, and Mr X invented a completely new fighting style especially suited to Toad's abilities. He's also thrown in Muay Thai, Tae Kwon Do, and Savate in to his fighting repetoire to further enchance his kicking power and leg strength. I see him as becoming something similar to a weaker version of Spider-Man, jumping, bouncing, flipping and kicking his way through dozens of enemies with similar speed to the wall-crawler.

Add in his adhesive spit and ability to exhale a powerful gust of concussive air from his lungs, Toad has gone from laughable disgrace to truly badass. He's also trained in espionage and infiltration techniques to be a part of the black-ops missions the Brotherhood will undertake.

Scalphunter

The team needs some professional soldiers on it, and Scalphunter is a perfect candidate. Highly skilled, cool under fire, years of battle experience in all types of arenas, and extremely versatile. His role would be similar to that of a Sgt in the army. He follows orders with total professionalism, and has the tactical knowhow to lead missions should the need arise.

He doesn't enjoy the training sessions with Mr X, as Mr X doesn't see him as a challenge to teach, and views him as not worthy of any creativity on Mr X's part. As with the others on the Brotherhood, their powers give Mr X a challenge when it comes to teaching them. Scalphunters powers seem boring to Mr X, and X doesn't hesitate in showing Scalphunter how much his disdains him with regular beatings in training sessions, using him as the class punching bag.

Frenzy

Another one easily swayed back onboard this new incarnation of the Brotherhood, her attitude is "FINALLY!" and is keen to get to work. She doesn't take shit from anyone, and this has led to conflict with Mr X, who was more than happy to serve her a lesson in obedience, begrudingly getting her respect.

Her new combat skills she learns from X make her one of the deadliest women on the planet, which only fuels her ego. She thinks she's invincible, and while she believes in Magneto's vision, she's along for the ride for the rush of battle more than anything. She's powerful, passionate and dangerous. Just what Magneto likes to see.

Random

An already experienced mercenary, Random, despite his actual youth, is a seasoned fighter with a lot of potential. He brings a lot of firepower to the team, and his ability to absorb/reflect mutant energy attacks gives him a huge edge on the battlefield.

Because of his youth, he's easily influenced by charismatic leaders, and having served both Exodus and Magneto in the past, he's a great example of a perfect soldier for Magneto. Young, powerful and easily molded.

Whirlwind:

A mutant who hasn't really has anything to do with the mutant world, and now's his chance to embrace his mutant heritage and make something of himself. With training under Mr X, he could become deadlier than ever. Imagine an aikido master who can rotate his limbs at hundreds of times a second. Throw in arm blades and he's a walking blender.

On top of his already powerful tornado generation/control, superspeed and force blasts, Whirlwind could become a serious badass is used properly. And joining Magneto's cause is just what he needs to elevate himself.

This line-up would be capable of doing the missions Magneto would give them, and handle any and all resistance that got in their way.

Good concept and background. Given your scenario, I'd have just gone with Exodus, Mystique, Frenzy and Random.

Keep the line-up tight and deadly.

Since I vastly prefer Magneto as a good guy (properly good, not just an alliance of convenience like he's in with the X-Men now), I love the idea of a team led by either Exodus or Mystique.

Exodus could be the next "Fatal Attractions"-era Magneto, given half a gram of exposure. His character design in the 90s was always one of my favorite outfits for a supervillain, and he's strong enough to give Magneto a run for his money in terms of sheer power. Plus, his zealotry and charisma are unmatched, except by Magnus on a bad day. He could be a great dogma-spewing showman, ranting about motivations while he wrecks a city block, and people wouldn't cry CHARACTER DERAILMENT! because, hey, he's always like that!

Even if she's not leader, Mystique should totally be there. She got her start with the Brotherhood, and I'd like to see her re-establish the command cred she held in Days of Future Past, where she could make the Blob back down with one short threat. I'd love a power-play between her and Ex, just to see their mutual viciousness.

Toad should be there, significantly more badass than we're used to seeing him. One of a very few things I felt the X-Men movies did right was giving me a Toad I could respect. Modelling Mortimer after that Toad would make him a lot more fun to watch than the Silver-Age throwback in the jester's costume.

Pyro would be another great old-school choice. I always liked him. I'd really love to see him actually try to balance a writing career (under a pseudonym) with his actions as a terrorist. Hell, any characterization past the flame-demon-making jobber he's usually painted as would be cool.

Avalanche...duh. Where there's Pyro there's him. Again, NEEDS MOAR CHARACTERIZATION DAMMIT. Who is he? What does he enjoy doing for fun when he's not shaking down buildings? Is there even a person under all that armor?

I'd also like one of the Mastermind girls in here, simply for mind games. Regan/Lady Mastermind would be my personal preference; she was shown in X-Treme to be extremely accomplished in the use of her powers, as well as almost as sadistically creative as her dad. I don't know enough about Martinique to really say one way or the other if she'd be as good.

Finally, I think I'd like to bring a couple of Acolytes into the mix. Probably Unuscione and Milan, assuming he's still alive. Unuscione's energy exoskeleton would make her a very cool remix of the "Team Bruiser" role, and Milan's technopathy could be utterly terrifying if used properly.

I agree with HulkSmash666: the Brotherhood were the original counterparts to the X-Men. They need to be relevant and dangerous again.

And Colossus now. Gotta have Colossus. We need a good guy to go bad.

Magneto being apart of the Brotherhood? He hasn't used that group since his first 10 years in creation. Doesn't fit. It's more affiliated with Mystique and Avalanche now. One thing is true..when Exodus is written correctly, as Bloodties proved, he sounds like one of the best villains Marvel had created in quite some time. His dialogue in the conclusion had so many quotables that it was ridiculous..he punked OUT Rogue, Wanda, Pietro, Crystal, Jean Grey, and Xavier on so many levels it was hilarious.
