In the last panel of USM #160 we saw Norman smiling in the flames so it makes me wonder if he died or not, since this hasn't been discussed for awhile i thought i should bring it up and see what theories people come up with

I think he's dead. That smile was him acknowledging the death of his greatest adversary.

I know why he smiled but that smile still makes me wonder what happened to him but if he is dead his corpse is probably S.H.I.E.L.D.

Or they destroyed it to make sure he never comes back the last thing they need is another Osborn catastrophe.

I expect he's alive. The big bad always comes back. In next months solicites it says 'What new and familiar enemies will rise to challenge this all-new Spiderman' in issue #4 of UCSM. Perhaps Norman will be revealed to be alive at the end/during the issue. Just a guess. Ten points if I'm right.

I think the combined facts that he was last seen and fire and was just minutes before shown to be able to absorb fire make for a suspicious death.

Even if he didnt die during that moment. Why didmt Shield just kill him when they took his sorry @$$ in?

Even if he is dead, I doubt he'll stay that way forever. After all, this is the same guy who came back from a bullet in the head. Besides, just like how Peter was tied to Osborn due to it being his fault he got spider powers, it's the same with Miles. So long as the entity he created lives, Osborn will keep coming back for more.

Geldoff got to him before the cops could. Or Norman convinced him to be in his next master plan of failing.

I reckon 4.5. Bendis once said 100 issues was a year. Issue 100 happened in 2008. 50 issues should be 6 months. Though I think Osbourne will be back a bit before then.

Hmm good point. It took us 11 years for a year to pass in the UU and that's with a 6 month time skip. So in reality, we've only been reading 6 months worth of time in universe.

That may actually be a very real possibility.

But seriously, I think this is one of those instances where Marvel will not give any definitive answer on Osborn's status so they can use him down the line. They may end up leaving him dead just like they did Wolverine despite his arm showing up at the end of Ultimatum. But my gut instinct is that Bendis will wait for a certain point in the story to bring Norman back. It wouldn't be the first time he's come back from what looked like an on-panel death. So long as Marvel keeps it ambiguous, they can still get away with it while saying they're still upholding the 'dead is dead' rule. We never saw a body or a grave. That's all it takes in comics.

And how many times has Norman died before in the Ultimate Universe? I have lost count. I think Green Goblin would make a awesome bad guy for Tony Stark.

Well last time they took his sorry as in they shot him first. When he recovered from it they kept him around wanting to learn how he did it.

Actually it happened in 2006 it says so on the marvel wikipedia so since it started in 2000 and took 6 years just to make 100 issues i think maybe next year it will be at issue 200

We may find out Wedseday since this issue of Ultimate Spider-Man honors us by allowing us to relive Peter's death a second time......5 months after watching it the first time. Is DoSM gonna be something that haunts us more than Ultimatum?

Doctor Octopus is not dead

To bad he was killed of in DOSM. I thought there was much more Bendis could have done with him :frown:

To bad he was killed of in DOSM. I thought there was much more Bendis could have done with him :frown:Yea especially since he had made up his mind to turn his life around being the opposite of Osborn in seeing that it wasn't Spider-Man that screwed up his life but himself. Another perfectly good difference from 616 thrown away for the reasoning of being different than 616.

I think he's dead. As for where his body is, probably hanging down at the bottom of the ocean with Osama................too soon?

But honestly, if he were to come back I wouldn't mind. He's such an awesome and frightening character that I still get chills when I see him in re-reads. I think he would make a good villain for Miles and like someone said that as long as the spider-man entity exists, Norman will always have a reason to fight and kill.

Well in USM #72 it said 9 months had passed since USM #1 and then there was the 6 month skip so we've actually been reading 15 months worth of time

Exactly, but they didnt show Peter's body in Fallout so maybe he didnt die either
