Ed Brubaker will adapt "Coward," the first arc of his and Sean Phillips' acclaimed crime series "Criminal," with "30 Days of Night" helmer David Slade attached to direct.

i think this could either be a great movie.. if its done right, its got so much to it, working on so many different levels

If Brubaker gets to write like he wants it can be a cool noir heist story. If its regular hollywood adapt it wont be good and generic heist film like all the others in recent years....

Good for Brubaker and Phillips. However I find noir writing boring and that's not a film I will want to see. Now a pulp movie, that's another story.

Wrong part of the connection, Slade was up for the remake helmer job.
Although damned if I didn't think Spade was directing this at first.

Coward isn't my favorite Criminal story, but it would make for a good film and more attention on the book the better.

Reread COWARD today, could very well make an excellent film.
If they could tempt him, Leonardo DiCaprio would be perfect as the 'coward'. Josh Hartnett, whom David Slade worked with on his last comic adaptation, would be great too.
