Mods, I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this thread, but I wasn't sure where else it would go. If it's wrong, please feel free to move it.
For a while now I've been thinking about starting a new forum site that is specifically aimed at Australian comics fans. The reason for this is that it's quite hard (at least in my experience) to discuss comics on US forums such as CBR because the Americans get their comics so earlier than Australia that those forums are well into their discussions before we even get to join in. This can also result in stories getting spoiled for us which is always annoying.
The idea behind the forum I'm thinking of creating is to have somewhere that Aussie fans can go to discuss the comics they read with other Aussie fans who are all on the same page (excuse the pun) in regards to releases, what's in stores and so forth. Also, it'll hopefully help promote comics and comic fandom in Australia. I should stress that this ISN'T an attempt to push out international readers, but rather to give Aussie fans a place to discuss comics in an environment that is more in line with our release time line.
Now, I plan to register a URL which would redirect to the forum so it'll be easy to find. There won't be a web site attached, there are already plenty of comic sites out there. However, the forum's banner will have a description of the forum on the front page and all the info about the forum will be presented there.
The reason I'm posting this here is that I'd like to hear what Aussie members of this forum think of the idea. Would you be interested in joining such a forum and would you be happy to post and discuss on the forum? I'd like to get an idea of how much interest in this is out there before I start building it.
Cheers.

HI,
If you're picking up your comics from an Australian comic shop you should be getting them around the same time as the US.

I'm pretty happy with CBR.
Been posting here about a decade, so they don't seem as creepy any more (except for Dox), so I'll stay put.
To the disspointment of many.
As for comics arriving later, I find Americans tend to get theirs on our Wednesday evening, and I pick mine up on Thursday, so it's no big deal.
In fact, as long as you avoid reading about books you will definitely be getting, it can be quite useful to measure the general reaction to a new series.

Usually stores don't have everything sorted until the Friday and sometimes the shipments are late due to whatever reason. Everytime I come on here to talk about a comic, even if I've bought and read it by Friday, there is PAGES of discussion so I always feel "what's the point of adding my bit, everything has been said."
Maybe it's just me?

Maybe it's your store.
Not trying to get a plug in but I run two comic shops in Brisbane and we normally have the books on the shelf Thursday morning.

I'm afraid Brisbane is a little far from me. My LCS is a smaller store, so maybe. But I'm pretty sure Kings in Sydney state they get the new books on Fridays too. Maybe that's just to give leeway...

That can happen, but people usually come back to check threads they've posted in, so if you post something, or quote a poster, it will get seen by people, and you'll get a response.
If people aren't still talking about a book on the weekend, it probably wan't having much said about it.
Also, if you hang about CBR a bit, you'll end up getting to know other posters a bit, and people will look at for your posts, and you theirs, so even if you are late to post, people will chat about a book with you.

I'm trying to get more into the CBR community. It's a great forum but that feeling of being late into the discussion has been a bit of a barrier. Still, I'm trying

Kings usually have their books out Thirsday morning or lunch, but if there's a delay in shipping it can be Thurs Arvo.
It has gone to Friday or weekend in the past year or so, but that's usually been tied to massive issues with shipping (or Americans having their non-Queens birthday public holidays).

Hm. It must be that my store is a small one (ut's the only one outside of Sydney on the Hunter Valley side) because they seem to have trouble with the shipping a lot. Sometimes the books they order just don't turn up.

I don't want to talk them out of business, but if it's a big issue, you could try mail order or go digital.
Have you got a pull list to make sure you're not just missing stuff on the shelf?

Yes, I have a pull list with them and I've missed VERY few issues. What I meant by the above comment is that they don't get some of their issues till a week or so later than they should. It's not the store's fault. It's a brilliant store and all the guys that work there can't do enough to help their customers.
As far as their troubles go it's simply a case of the little guy getting shitted on by the bigger one.

Ah, yeah that can suck. Definitely happened all around with the new DC books.
It is harder to get in there and discuss it a week later, but you'd still have that with an Aussie board, as different stores have their books come over on different flights, and get trucked differently - it'd just be Ian gloating about knowing which X-team gags at the taste of schism first.
Discussing books with people on the other side of the world is pretty cool, and gives you some different view points, so I think it's worth occasionally being behind the times.

That's a fair point. But then that's why I started this thread, to get opinions from people such as yourself, so thank. I appreciate it! ^_^
