View Full Version : Tossing around an idea (wanna play?)

So, i think the 'Age of Marvels' thing over on the Marvel-side is a pretty cool idea.
(basically, people plot titles over there monthly, put brief solicts up, and people decide which series they want to keep reading over there. Go check it out if you haven't)
Anybody interested in doing something like that over here, only in reverse, meaning that they created a new Marvel, but since we a;ready have a DCnU, instead here in the DC version we could do it using the now defunct pre-flashpoint DCU (ie what we would have happen if DCU had continued, rather then be rebooted).
Would anybody be interested in trying this out?
Basically, we would gage if we had enough people interested in, then line everybody up in a random draft...
first round: pick your title and primary character (solo character titles would have to pick their primary character-ie if you picked to plot 'Wonder Woman' than she would have to be your first round choice...duh...)
second round: next character and your writer
third round: next character and your artist
etc, etc...
just tossing the idea around, I think it could be fun. Anybody?

I'd be down for something like that. Being in school at the moment I don't know how super involved I could be, but handling a book or two doesn't seem too bad. It's a neat idea Age of Marvels has and would work well in the DCU.

Sounds interesting, although starting with the pre-Flashpoint status quo as a baseline, I'd probably be tempted to spend my plots on "fixing broken toys".

Also, not sure if you've done this or not TJ, but it would be best to get a mod or two involved, to help promote this and help oversee it.

I'm not really sure what the game is all about, I can't finde the rules...
Basically you have to come up with a new title + creative team and every month post a solicitation, and if people say thay buy it, you can come back next month with a new issue, right?
If that's so, totally call me in.

Is this idea dead after a day?

Seems like fun, but the original versions seems to be just one guy doing all of the solicitations, which strikes me as rather boring for a game.

Ny of the mods want in on this, at least to help out a bit with stickies, solicitation, etc, etc...

me too, I don't really wanna do 'Superman' or 'Batman' stuff myself, more into playing with B and C and Z class characters.

Ah okay. For something like this would we be able to take books in any direction we want, or follow more closely to the original DCU? I have ideas for Catman: Red Lantern....

I would want to play but would need a better explanation of how it works

Sounds fun. Though does it have to be pre-DCnU? I think enough has been kept in continuity that we can bring back things from the old DCU if we want.
So can we start? I pick Captain Marvel, in the title SHAZAM!

You're pretty darn close, WhitOro. Basically the DCU is placed in the hands of all of us and, based on TJ's description, can be divvied up one of two ways: taking some of the titles from the old DCU and continuing them with our own directions or, as Age of Marvels, rebooting and relaunching entirely new series, teams, etc. Everyone who wants to help as an editor would then be entered into a random draw to choose characters for a team (or characters w/ supporting characters for solos), followed by artists and writers. From there, this new DCU would be divided into its appropriate factions, Batman Superman, and so on, and editors would be assigned either to an entire line or to individual books, based on how many people are interested in participating. From there, each month, solicitations like the one DC provides for their books are written up by editors or outside contributors who want to whet their creative appetites. Just like any other comic book, there can be one-off issues, overreaching arcs, even crossovers. Each month, the editors and others on the forum will write up a list of which books they wish to purchase, as well as vote on which line they liked the most. The editor(s) of the line with the most positive feedback then decides what happens to the lowest purchased book: cancellation, rebooting, folding characters into other stories, etc. And it continues month after month, becoming a competition of sorts between lines and editors to garner the most attention and come up with the best quick solicits and stories possible.

Ok, this sounds really a fun idea to spend some time.
If to start another "reboot" or create new titles from the old DC, I don't know, I would prefer the first options, more possibility to movements.
I would agree that I would prefer from B to Z characters, I think it's more interesting.

You take the best creative team on the planet, unfair

Alright, so I think we have the interest, so what do the people want to see and do?
#1. Pre-flashpoint DC Universe (basically keeping all past continuity intact up to Flashpoint), like DNnU is just another world in the 52 and we have been given control of the old DC Universe
OR
#2. Total Reboot

Why not stick with the partial reboot of the DCnU?

Because DCnU is already doing that, we don't wanna step on each others toes, after all. This way our plotters have more free reign to get a little crazy...

I'm confused about how much we're supposed to change. I thought the idea of this was an alternate array of titles. If making these in the same general continuity as the currently published comics is "stepping on each others' toes," aren't the people at Age of Marvels stepping on Marvel's toes?

I'd be interested in 'plotting' some titles, but only via a complete reboot.

I think you can change whatever you want, and instead of continuig old titles, you create new ones.
I, personally, have no problems with either a complete reboot or a pre-flashpoint, but following Schornforce, I'd say Complete Reboot.
Hey, when we choose the creative teams do we have to use only DC writers or we can pretend some guys jumped ship?

Complete reboot could be fun. Ultimate DC!

any writers/artists who are not Marvel exclusives can be used.
looking like our own complete reboot of the Universe (basically, we have our own world in the 52 to start fresh with...)
