I completely read the 5 issue of the X-Men Schism storyline. When you read it for what it is first, a comic book story, it is a cool story. BUT nothing more. It's just that, a story without any depth, like all the major X-event. X-Event that Marvel always play the same song again and again, "THE" event that will change the X-Men forever.
IS it possible to focus on characters instead of the event.
In Schism, Wolverine was against the fact that the children (between 14 and 18 years old) will join the fight against the sentinel. Hello, where's Cyclops? When I read Cyclops and Wolverine arguing, I was sure that Cyclops would shout at Wolverine : "How old do you think we were when Hank, Bobby, Warren, Jean and I first fought a sentinel, Logan?" All characters have a past. Use it. X-Men always fight for their survival and will always do.
Cyclops trained the children to survive. When you are feared, hated and at the brink of extinction, it's what you do, you do everything to survive. Cyclops lets the "children" joining the fight because he knew they will do the job.
The X-Men always have children in their ranks. The original members were children. Kitty. The New Mutants. Jubilee. And now Wolverine got something about that. He can not stand that children fight a sentinel or that Idie kills hellfire club member to survive. What a great idea that Wolverine has to blow Utopia. Hello...there are Atlanteans under the island. Wolverine want to blow a sentinel to not involve kids but i will start a war with Atlateans. When I talk about no depth in story, it's that kind of thing I'm talking about.
I would have preferred Wolverine leaving the X-Men and Utopia alone. No one with him. With Prof X, Emma Frost and the X-Club, let just say that people like Idie, who suffers some trauma, can be treated. But hey...Wolverine and the X-Men...Marvel must sold some books!!!!
That story should have been a story arc in Uncanny X-Men instead of being a mini series since Schism will lead to the cancellation of Uncanny X-Men. So this way, I wouldn't asked myself such question like why and how Colossus in uncanny is a Juggernaut and how can I see him inactive with a bug on his face in Schism? Or Rogue trapped in space in Legacy when in Schism she fought sentinels. I hate stories that overlap other stories.
Like i said, Schism is just that, a story.
