Does Silver Surfer have superspeed (running wise)?

Sure he has superspeed. He propels himself through space many thousands of times the speed of light, and he maneuvers while he does it! He does that superspeed thing all day every day many times over.

Just the fact that he has to travel great distances to find planets for Galactus to eat should give an indication of his speed. He wouldn't do that slowly.

If the question is can he do it without his board, I believe the answer is yes. I don't think the board has any special powers, rather it is an extension of his own power. Most of the other heralds don't bother with a vehicle (although Terrax often has something).

Yes, but the fastest animal on the planet is the peregrine falcon, which can hit speeds up to 124 MPH, and close to 170 from a power dive. It also sucks at the 40 meter dash.


Which isn't to say that Surfer couldn't. Just that his ability to move between planets says nothing about his ability to run fast. Two different sets of skills, with two completely separate sets of sub-powers needed to pull it off. For instance, would Surfer be able to negate the friction caused by his feet hitting the ground that much, would should liquefy whatever surface he was treading on?

Possibly, but he'd have to channel the Power Cosmic that way. And would it come to mind?

He's been shown as having warp speed flight due to his power cosmic but I haven't seen him portrayed as having the foot speed to match. I'm not saying that he can't do it, I just haven't seen a comic where he does it. Similar to the way Nova (Richard) and Quasar (Wendell) can fly at probably near-light speed but I wouldn't assume they could run at those speeds yet both can amp themselves up with the Nova Force and Q-energy, respectively. Is there a comic where Surfer is shown doing it?

It's never been shown, and in all likelihood probably never will be shown because there's no real context the Silver Surfer would run at high speeds since he can fly.

Flash or Quicksilver run because they basically have to run... they don't fly. If they could (like say Northstar, who actually can run fast too), we really wouldn't see them running either.

I'm pretty sure he can run fast. But it's almost silly to see him do it, so I'm not sure it's something we'll ever get actual proof of.

I say that he can simply due to the fact he can do some pretty intricate maneuvering while flying at "hyper"light speeds. Yes, he can propel himself at that speed, but prefers to do it in style on his board. But to maneuver, he has to see a threat, assess it, and counter it. Doing that indicates a hand/eye coordination that at the speeds he does it would serve any Flash well.

He needs the surfboard , it's a part of him. Will be like a fish out of water without the surfboard , using his feet to run would be too alien for the surfer.

That would be logical but then the fact that someone as powerful as Galactus still needs someone to find planets for him, kinda throws all logic out of the window.

I guess the best way to look at it would be:

A rocket scientist with a yacht could go fishing to survive, but it's more convenient to just go to a restaurant and eat seafood after it's been prepared for you.

He's definitely smarter, stronger, and has access to some of the most advance technology compared to a fish, but it's a vast ocean and he'll want to make sure that he doesn't waste energy trying to catch a poisonous fish.

It's probably not the best analogy, but that's what makes sense to me.

of course not. he uses a surf board because of his extremely weak ankles.

He needs his board to improve his speed, the board has many uses, it stores cosmic energy also, can trap people or can ram into an enemy
it gives him unlimited speed just as Ghost Rider's bike aids him for movement or Thor's hammer help him channel power of flight

No board then Surfer has to exhaust his own energy for speed, or blast out energies to fly

Without his board I feel he's probably gonna move around as fast as Spider-Man or Namor
but he does have speed feats without the board

With the board he's Relativistic, hitting the speed of light and if he pushes it he can be massively FTL, zipping from one Galaxy to the next and breaking the time barrier
