View Full Version : Other abbreviations for the new continuity?

Does anyone have other abbreviation suggestions for the new DC universe.

I find the current vogue--DCnU--not the greatest. First because it looks dumb (IMHO), but also it's hard to type, because you have to use your shift key--and because abbreviations should be brief. This one is four letters--DCU is only three--and MU is only two.

ACDC is one that occurs to me--but again it's a lot of letters. Or maybe just AC.

Or NU. Or even better N--easy to type!

But there are probably more clever abbreviations.

IMHO is a 4 letter abreviation, yet you didn't hesitate to drop that one...

Seriously, one additional lower case letter is your issue? Talk about lazy.

I've got the perfect solution for you though... Just stop posting or talking about the DCnU for the next 2-3 months. 3 months from now we won't be talking about DCnU, it will just be back to DCU.

Of course when that happens we're going to have to come up with some easy way refer to the pre-DCnU books, but I'm sure we'll figure it out by then.

Actually, I used IMHO intentionally--I could have used IMO, or just not used any abbreviation--to be ironic.

Seriously, I thought this was a fun topic to put up. Sad to know my sense of whimsy is frowned upon. :(

I eschew the abbreviations altogether and call it the Post-FLASHPOINT DCU.

Which is probably what the "official" designation will be in a year or so when the "n" from the DCnU loses it`s meaning.

Maybe. Some people *still* call the Silver Age Batman costume the "New Look" despite its not having been "new" since 1964 (and Batman's having sported at least a half dozen newer looks since then).

I'm one of those who still uses "New Look"--but usually with the quotes and I feel quite nostalgic when doing so.

addendum: but by "New Look" I don't mean just the costume, but that whole period between 1964 and 1969 which had a very specific design sense which is distinct from what came before or after.

This is a joke right?

Those were the years that Carmine Infantino drew the BATMAN book, I believe.

The Infantino look *was* basically the 1960s DC look.

I dunno. DCNU seems like a joke to me--were the folks who came up with it being serious or funny??? I'm not sure. So is this like a double negative thing? Is a joke about a joke serious?

For some reason whenever I see DCNU, it reminds of the comic strip "Animal Crackers" which I read when I was young. In that strip there was a gnu (GNU--in comic book font), but I didn't know how to pronounce GNU, so I always read it as G'NU--like G'NORT. Then I was told it was pronounced NU. Then I heard other people tell me it was G'NU.

So the DCNU makes me think of Animal Crackers and confusion--go figure.

Yes and other artists like Joe Giella, Sid Greene, and Irv Novick aped Infantino's style in drawing Batman. But then Neal Adams started to draw Batman different--and Infantino himself said that artists should try to emulate Adams' version, not his.

In the letter columns of the day this 60s style was always referred to as the "New Look."

I like to call it Lion King 1 1/2....I mean....DCU: The Prequel.
