Glad I'm not the only one who really liked JLA #1

I really enjoyed it. No complaints from me.

Uh, I didn't see Green Lantern. But maybe I'll watch on DVD... still got my old VHS.

I liked reading this part best of all:

"It's an attempt to make the comic look more "realistic" in form, I get that, but there's also a part of me that wonders why we can't all be happy with superhero comics being a fantasy, and not questioning stupid things like, "How can Peter Parker make a Spider-Man costume?" "

Here's my tip for digital comics: Open on laptop, plug into television, read at Absolute-Plus size.

Giant Digital Jim Lee Justice League is ridiculously awesome.

Freakonomics took an interesting look at the termnation rights issue:
http://www.freakonomics.com/2011/08/31/the-music-industry-copyright-battle-when-is-owning-more-like-renting/

Bascially, they say that since the clause is in the contracts, labels have leverage to offer less money for the contracts because they are less valuable. This hurts all artists. After 35 years, artists can buy their rights back and release music for their own benefit. This only helps artists that are popular enough after 35 years to benefit from selling this back catalog. So, inessence, it means poor artists make less money while rich artists make more.

I thought it was a fine first issue.

Did anybody else notice the spoiler? I'm a new reader and one of the characters I was most interested in is given away in the Sketchbook section after the story. DC may have a lot of returning readers familiar with the real identity of the metallic guy on the cover, but I wasn't sure if it would be Vic or his father. Mystery solved now I guess.

PS - Augie bring back the podcast! :)

I liked JL #1 as well. Glad I'm not the only one. A lot of reviewers are tearing it to shreds. "It's too slow. It's not worth the money. It's not a complete story." There's a whole thread on the WW boards going on right now about how Batman shouldn't have been able to pick pocket GL's ring. Petty stuff like that. But I thought it was a fun and solid issue, setting up the characters and also introducing the new status quo for the whole DCU for new readers, which is needed.

I did do a walkthrough of just that in Pipeline a couple years ago. I attached my MacBook laptop to the 42" screen with a cable. It wasn't perfect, but it worked. =)

Maybe we'll have AirPlay working with comic books off iPads and iPhones next. You can stream your comics through your Apple TV. heh

Thanks for the kind thought. I only wish I had the time to put one together reliably and realistically. I do miss it sometimes, particularly in months like this one, where there's so damned much to talk about.
