So my BPRD Plague of Frogs Omnibus volume 2 just arrived from Amazon and IT. IS. AWESOME.

Tons of sketchbook pages I've never seen before and the paper and coloring...
The recolored covers by Mike look SO great- the actual covers on single issues can look sorta...drab.
Here they are bright and showcase all of Mike amazing art.

Now, down to the nitty gritty- there's sketch book info detailing a lot of stuff from Pope's office (The Black Flame chapter one)- like that glying wing model hanging from the celing- that's actually the first Black Flame's ride- the Iron Bat.

Also, for the first time (that I recall, anyway) i noticed that among Pope's collection is Herman von Klempt's head being used as a bookend and one of The Scarlett Lotus' Noh-mask monkeys in a jar like the one Ben found.
that right- there were THREE according to the character sketch info at the back..so where's the third monkey?

Really, you guys gotta get this- SO worthwhile!

Good to hear! I haven't even got the first one yet, but I imagine I'll be ordering the two of them together. And then I still need the 4th Hellboy Library Edition. So glad that Dark Horse is releasing them in this format. My favorite comics publisher, hands down.

I got mine yesterday too, and am very happy with the expanded sketchbook material! I also like that they mixed the order of the stories around a little bit so that they go chronologically.

Yeah- me too! I forgot to include that part- the War on Frogs stuff is in there chronologicly- nicely breaking things up.

Reading it all in two big chunks, I can see how the BPRD really thought they were beating back the frogs and things were getting better...and just how much poor Liz went through- and Abe!
It's a very clear development for him to go from his mopey "never leaves the base" to kicking ass Die Hard style in Garden of Souls.

Speaking of which, I cant wait foe volume three! When is that coming out?
I need it now.

Vol. 1 was released Feb '11, Vol. 2 Sept '11. So I'm guessing they'll have Vol 3 ready to go in March/April '12.

I'm buying Vol.2 and Library Edition 4 soon as I have some money!

You guys are more sensitive than I am when it goes to slight artistic tweaks... I didn't realize there was any re-coloring.

NOt just that, the quality of the paper really (for me) adds to the experience (as does the impressive weight of the volume).
You really get your money's worth on these....and reading the stories in volume two in one sitting really brings the big picture into focus- stuff introduced to enrich the overall story that might never get explained (like the WWII Nazi super villians) that just add to the complexiy of the Hellboyverse.
