If these aren't included in the inevitable deluxe edition I will be furious.

That's Bette Kane--Kate's cousin, and was previously Flamebird.

Amy Reeder draws the best chick faces ever imo.
They're lovely, and it's a shame she finished four of them before she was told they won't be needed, but i'm quite glad that variants are being discarded for at least one title. Especially because i'm a sucker!

Very nice. I love all of them. Reeder is great. I'm glad that even when Williams takes a break, Batwoman will be in good hands.
The punching bags for the #2 cover suggest that it'll be more about training Bette, which is cool (and suggests that the new "costume" is more of a training outfit, as some had guessed). And on #4 Batwoman seems to be looking at the hospital - what's goin' on, I wonder?
So pumped for this book.

Hmm... is this lil' Bette the same girl that was the original Bat-Girl in the early Silver Age? Under the original Katy Kane Batwoman, that is.
Wouldn't she be Nightwings age these days..?

Gorgeous art. If these really don't get released, I'm going to hope that DC puts out an artbook for Reeder.

I don't know why DC didn't just save them and use them as the regular covers on this run. It would have saved JH Williams a lot time having to do covers too.

It's a good thing you're on a computer where you can save them.

Well the deal was that Reed and Williams would alternate drawing for each Batwoman arc. So when Williams would be drawing the book, Reeder would be doing the variant and Vice Versa.
Its a shame as we don't get those covers but DC is letting Finch draw a few Variant Covers.

Different Bette. The one who became Flamebird originally came in during the Young Justice period as a stalker for Tim Drake*, as I recall.
*Now that I think about it...Tim did have a lot of women stalking him, didn't he? And fans complained about all the women wanting him in Red Robin.

Because Williams had already done the covers anyways?

I thought she was Stalking Dick. (these batguys have girl problems)
It's a good thing you're on a computer where you can save them.
Cause that somehow turns them into physical copies printed on deluxe sized glossy paper?

She was. He's the one who told her to grow up and resulted in her donning her most recent costume back in Johns' Beast Boy mini.

Not sure if we know that Bette is or is not Betty. For one, as Flamebird, she once sorta indicated that she was a Bat-girl. (another Teen/Titans story)

I would love for Bette to have been the original Bat-Girl, especially now that the DCU timeline is being so radically crunched. She could be younger than Barbara is now, as long as she started around the same age as Dick did (originally, at least). The reboot is the perfect opportunity for them to fix up some minor continuity issues/mysteries like this one.

They are outstanding, I find the first and last covers especially arresting for some reason.

The Weeping Woman looks terrifying. It's so sad these covers won't be released :(
I hope Amy at least got paid for them. She deserves it.

If DC commissioned the covers, then she will be paid, whether they're used or not. You would be amazed at how much material is paid for but never used.
Then what would be?
The next best thing would be me printing them out onto some really nice paper. Though like I said I'd rather have them in the deluxe size hardcover.

Nahhhh! Its all VERY good. Part of the dynamic will be someone who thought she was alone- as a superhero, now having to adjust to the new status quo.
I'm convinced there is great potential for the plotlines. There is a lot of mystery about Bette that may in fact have good connections with the overall back story of the Kanes, and the Waynes.
Also I can't wait. Really. For Nightwing to encounter sexy Kate (who could care less for him) only to be foiled by the presence of Flamebird, who, on panel he has mostly treated as a joke, and a nuisance.
And I want Flamebird to be mostly un-interested in him. When he finally remembers or see that Bette is the same girl he once kissed as a 12 year old or so, (or... does he know, I have a theory, of course) and who hung around with that Batwoman who wanted to ruin *his* relationship with Bruce...
well I expect some good development here.
I would eventually like to see the Nightwing/Flamebird pairing, perhaps leading towards a romance, but I could also see some semi-comedic adventures. Kind of like the dynamic (reversed though) in the old Moonlighting series, about the private eyes with the hopeless attraction/off attraction.
By the way, I don't think Amy's cover shows a "little girl"... she's just set back several feet from the foreground with Kate.
Remember that Dick was shown as smaller statured than Bruce for a long time. Part of that is that many comic artists 'fail' when it comes to proper sizing of children ranging to adults.
For example... on average, by the age of 2, most people are about 1/2 their adult height. By the time you are 18 you are about full sized. You won't really grow much more. There are exceptions, based on genetics, hormone spurts etc.
Another thing to keep in mind, certain acrobats and other athletes excel or are better favored by being smaller statured. I've seen full size male ballet dancers, for example, but to me the ones with the best moves are lighter, slightly smaller, etc.
In those far ago days of the first Batwoman, Kathy probably noticed Bette's slightly smaller stature and used her own circus background to give some training that may have matched some of what Dick had learned from his own days in the circus.

Just took the time to print all four of these out on photo paper. WOW these pics here do not do Amy's work justice. Once you see how vivid this four pieces are on glossy 8x10 paper it is just beautiful.
