As comic convention season wraps up for 2011, I am asking folks to help me out as I plan to round out my collected edition bookcases with more from mighty Marvel. I have included what iconic Marvel softcovers, hardcovers, and b&w Esstentials I already have in list form so far here (http://insidepulse.com/2011/08/22/marvel-comics-rewind-collected-editions-cavalcade-avengers-fantastic-four-x-men-spider-man-more/) (so you don't recommend something I already have). What else should I pick up and why? Thanks in advance.

Most Storm fans would recommend X-Men Worlds Apart as the best Storm story.
so yeah! get one and you'll like it especially that the art inside is good, as well as the story of course.

I recently bought Thor vol 1 and it was easily the worst TPB I have ever purchased. Almost nothing happened in it, and what did happened made no sense. It jumped around a lot and confused the hell out of me. I was hoping to get a jumping on point for Thor and that's definitely not it.

I see you've already got Infinity Gauntlet and War, which is great. I recommend you also pick up Silver Surfer: Rebirth of Thanos, which includes the incredible stories that led up to both of those Infinity epics. In particular, The Thanos Quest is terrific.
I'd also recommend Iron Man: Armor Wars II. It's a really nice bridge between Iron Man: Armor Wars and Iron Man: War Machine (and Tony's "death" in the War Machine collection will make way more sense after you've read Armor Wars II).
Personally, I think you're missing one of the most incredible of all Avengers stories, Avengers: Under Siege. I can't even express how fantastic it is. It's a real page turner.
There's an older X-Men collection that happens to bring together some of my favorite issues from the #170s, X-Men: From the Ashes. If you haven't already read the story of Wolverine's wedding in Japan and Storm's transformation into mohawk Storm, then I highly recommend this collection if you can find it (and if you don't mind older TPB quality... personally, I like the older printing quality better).
As for Hulk books, I'd recommend Planet Hulk, She-Hulk: Single Green Female, and She-Hulk: Planet Without a Hulk. All really entertaining.
Okay! My last set of recommendations. I'm a huge Black Panther fan, so I'd be remiss to not mention some T'Challa books. Only problem is, the best 70s stuff is really expensive (two Kirby books [the first one is better] and a super expensive Marvel Masterworks collection of Panther's Rage). I love those stories, and if you can find them cheap, BUY THEM! But as for more modern, reasonably priced collections, I recommend Secret Invasion: Black Panther, Black Panther: Power (the prelude to Doomwar), and Doomwar.
