View Full Version : Has Reading Any of the #2 Solicitations Changed your View on DCnU titles?

With all of these #2 solicitations coming out, were begining to see what each of these series are going to be like. You could also sort of tell the feel of each of the books. Have your views of each series changed since some of the #2 solicitations come out?

I never liked Finch's Batman but the solicitation and cover of #2 didnt help me like it any more.
However the solicitation of Catwoman #2, I,Vampire #2 and Ressurection Man #2 has me interested. Resurrection Man looks and sounds lighter than I thought it would be... because it IS a dark book. But I guess thats what is getting me interested in it.
StormWatch looks very "Wildstorm" from the cover. But I guess thats what people want. Im still interested.

Well I think Shade is going to be considered a mini for Dark.
Why on earth did Batman universe need two minis and not Dark though? Maybe someone pitched Penguin and DC liked it.

Thought Shade would be Edge.

My October anticpaed list (based on covers) is looking like this

Dark
Animal Man
I Vampire
Demon Knights
Justice League Dark
Swamp thing

Compare that to my September rating of

Swamp Thing
Justice League Dark
Demon Knights
I vampire
Animal Man

My Batman List for October is
Red Hood and The Outlaws
Batwoman
Batman
Nightwing
Batman and Robin

while september was

Batman
Batwoman
Nightwing
Red Hood
Batman and Robin

also going to wait till december and get most of the huntress real cheap.

Batwing issue 2 definetly looks 2x better than issue one. Its like night and day. besides that no. Im might get number 2 after i get a review on batwing issue 1. off topic im droping ultimate x-men. I looked at again. And im not picking it up.

Yeah Batwing issue #2 had a cover that really wowed me. That's on my definite pick ups right now.

Aside from that nothing has changed.

I was always getting Nightwing. I'm debating the other Batman books though, I like the writers and artists, but Bruce as Batman doesn't do it for me anymore.

This is excluding the Dark Knight title, I wasn't going to buy it before I'm certainly not going to get it now.

I'm not feeling the Dark lineup as much. Demon Knights, Justice League Dark and Swamp thing all sound interesting, but they aren't high priorities for me, cause I am looking forward to 12 other books instead of these 3 and 15 books seems like a tall order to pay for each month unless I do digital

I like Lemire, but wasn't sold 100% on Animal Man or Frankenstein until reading the # 2 solicits. Now I'm in.

Stormwatch, same story. Possibly Demon Knights, too.

They've reinforced my decisions regarding the ones I was already planning on picking up (like Stormwatch, Demon Knights, Frankenstein, etc), but haven't caused me to add anything. Well, except the Shade maxi-series. Does that count?

Bit disappointed with the Swamp Thing #2 solicit...just felt a bit bland, but I faith in the creative team.

That said, the solicitations for Frankenstein, Animal Man, Stormwatch, and Demon Knights were all kinds of awesome.

Also, the solicitation for I, Vampire piqued my interest again.

More interested in:

Batman - really like the cover
Batman and Robin - cover is hilarious
Birds of Prey - solicit sounds cool
Animal Man - cover is insane, even moreso than the first
Resurrection Man - cover is fun, solicit sounds cool
Stormwatch - cover is awesome, solicit makes the series sound really vital to the new DCU

Less interested in:

Nightwing - bad cover, solicit is dull
The Dark Knight - cover is atrocious
Swamp Thing - cover is meh compared to the first, solicit is boring too

I see someone posted that 15 books a month is a tall order unless they do digital. Does your local shop not offer a subscriber discount? Mine does and if you get 40 or more subs then you can get 40% off....they also offer a lesser discount for less books (5 books or more 10%, 20 or more 20%, 30 or more 30% and 40 or more 40%). They also bag and board free by request. If people are interested I can give you the email...they offer online subs (this only applies to those who have no local shop and order online already, I wouldn't want to steal business from a local shop).

I'm now definately getting Stormwatch thanks to the moon battling.

I'm no longer getting Batwing. Here's a new character with limitless potential in an exciting setting, and the approach is dead super heroes? No.

The new solicits frustrate me, because now, instead of their being three books that I want to figure out a way to read, there are like five. Justice League Dark is tempting me now, and Stormwatch has just been reinforced as my most anticipated new title.

I haven't seen the JLI #2 solicit yet, hoping I like what I see when I do.

I so badly want to like Blackhawks. But seeing a fill-in artist on issue #2 is a huge turnoff for me--and a major bummer. :frown:

Grifter looks solid, which is a nice surprise.

Everything else is unchanged. I'm more interested in Swamp Thing and Animal Man now.

Sad to see a fill-in on Suicide Squad #2 already. I wasn't buying that either, but still the more fill-ins I see, the more disappointed I am. Multiple fill-ins equals me not buying the book.

what lines do you think will be solicited tomorrow?

Also where are the Preview pages and the rest of the interviews.

What do you mean by fill-ins? Why is that a bad thing?

Fill-ins are when members of the regular creative team are unable to meet their deadlines and another writer or artist steps in to fill in for them.

There are legitimate ones (like illness or deaths in the family), but usually what has often been the case is the person having a weak work ethic. George Perez being late because he had eye surgery is perfectly understandable. David Finch being late because he bit off more work than he could chew is not.

I don't want to support someone who doesn't take their commitment to a book seriously.

Absolutely not. I may be in the minority, here, but I have NO intention of picking up ANY of the new titles that DC is putting out for publication. In my 30-odd years of collecting, Superman has ALWAYS been my all-time favorite character, and I have stood by him and DC through every other change that they decided to make... in his status, origin, costume, whatever else they decided to tinker with, tweak, alter or outright trample into the mud. But this latest "retcon" or "reboot" or whatever else they're calling it at DC has made it abundantly clear to me that, in the name of what they call "updating for the modern age" they're willing to do whatever they feel they have to do to sell magazines, continuity or consistency be [EXPLETIVE]. One thought of mine, however, is what's the point of making a character 'younger' to appeal to younger readers when they (the characters) don't age in the first place? Any "de-aging" that they decide on is purely reliant on the artist doing the drawing at the time. For example, what might be 'young' for Jim Lee might not be so 'young' for George Perez. And I could go on.......

No, I think that I'm done with DC.

Personally I would wait until we actually know what they're doing with the character before making a decision. After all, they did everything you just mentioned in Byrne's "Man of Steel." He got younger, his powers changed, as did his history. The chances are very good this will be less of a change than that was.

I'm way more interested in Stormwatch than I was. My only worry is it will tie in lot into the rest of the DCU; my budget is restricted so I can't keep up with whats going on very well. Especially since I'm mainly reading Dark titles which probably won't tie in much.

Animal Man is also quickly becoming my most anticipated title. The art is fantastic, plus I'm intruiged by what Jeff Lemire is doing. Does AM's daughter have the power to combine animals maybe, or make new ones? That's what the cover suggests to me, and what she's created is hunting them down.

But yeah, I was initially solely picking up Stormwatch because of Cornell. Wasn't that excited for it. Now though? Hot damn, this sounds awesome.

Animal Man's awesomeness increases as well. Doesn't hurt too that its cover rules.

I am concerned with Deathstroke. Fantastic cover, but the solicitation text is sort of bland, much like Nightwing's was.

Men of War sounds like a lot of fun though. I hope Vankin is a better writer than Search of Swamp Thing suggests.

The villainess is one thing (and there is promise), but I'm especially interested in the environment.

There's something really cool, and potentially haunting, about a crew of average Joe soldiers walking back-to-back with guns drawn in a creepy, ghostly supernatural/super-powered environment with Circe dogging them.

Lots of potential and it has me more excited than the first solicitation.

The interview is what clinched it for me. I liked the way he put that these guys are fighting metahumans so if an assult rifle or greande don't take you take whatever supercannon from the guy you just blew away and let it loose on the next one.

Maybe. Obscure heroes B'wana Beast and Freedom Beast had that power- maybe Lemire will tie him into the Red, similar to how Grant tied Vixen in. Maybe Maxine will be able to use all facets of the Red, even ones Buddy can't.

Speaking of, didn't Maxine get powers in the latter Vertigo series?

On the other hand, Deathstroke sounds kinda lame, and will likely not get my hard earned scratch, and Suicide Squad just makes me sadder and sadder. Kill it now and bring in Gail or someone with Ostrander-guidance ASAP

I remember B'wana Beast, I was thinking him. Maxine being a Red master is an intruiging idea. Haven't read beyond Grants stuff but I have heard about Maxine having powers before.

Maxine's costume makes me wonder if they might give the entire Buddy family Animal powers. Make them a kind of a weird, animal based, horror surrounded Incredibles. Cliff at least makes sense if it's genetic.

The merry-go-round of artists on this last volume of Birds of Prey had a definite effect on the comic and caused me to drop it.

Unfortunately, fill-in art often looks rushed, as well....and seeing TWO fill-in artists on an issue is also never a good sign, as it often leads to chaotic and inconsistent art.

BATWING #2
Written by JUDD WINICK
Art and cover by BEN OLIVER
On sale OCTOBER 5 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T
He is called Massacre, and he brings death. What does the soldier in service of Batman Incorporated do when he’s met his match? When he’s been brought so low and been wounded so badly? What does he do when lost Super Heroes begin turning up as victims? Batwing fights back!

This sounds like a good ole action adventure book, and I'm really looking forward too it. Plus this villain looks really badass

Issue #2 solicits convinced me I'm not interested in Suicide Squad (I'll save that slot for Levitz's Huntress min instead).

But they convinced me I really REALLY want Demon Knights now. I love Morrison's Shining Knight, and to have Cornell write her, and to throw Mordru and Vandal Savage into the mix? Sold.

Suicide Squad saddens me, too. I'll get the first arc, but I'm really not feeling the redesigns at all.

Animal Man, Demon Knights, JLD and Frankenstein were already on my pull list, and the latest solicits just reaffirm my excitement for them.

I'm hoping Nightwing will surprise us. I actually like his new look.

And my curiosity about Batwing is enough to keep me on for at least the first arc, despite his costume looking ridiculous to me.
