View Full Version : Create Your Own Relaunched Titles
If you could create your own series for the upcoming relaunch, featuring any/all characters that you want and with the ability to make it a solo or team series, what would be some of your ideas?
Some of my ideas include new versions of the:
Omega Men: featuring DC's cosmic characters, they initially fight against the evil forces of the Vega Star System including the Psions, Blackfire, the Citadel. Eventually though there would be stories which take them out of that galaxy. The team would consist of:
Captain Comet: Or rather just "Comet" who with his various powers leads the team (even when he doesn't want to)
Starfire: love interest of Comet
Lobo: team muscle; nobody really wants him there, but he is a huge asset
The Wonder Twins: the two youngest members; exceptionally naive they probably cause more harm than good, but are valuable assets to the team thanks to their powers
Tigorr: team wise-ass & comedian
Vril Dox: brains of the operation
I know the team is very similar to REBELS but its just an idea.
What are some of your ideas?

I like this idea. I always loved villain themed stories and these are great characters. I suggest the 7th member to be a female. Tala perhaps?

I also really love teen teams and these sound like a lot of fun. I like the whole "escape detention" theme of the Metal Men as I can see that actually being used as a tagline in todays comics.
I also love the backstory for your Young Justice. The idea of a Martian Holocaust provides a great basis for the formation of the team. Its also a very diverse line-up as well featuring some of my favs (Static, Aqualad, Blue Beetle) which I also love.
Great job both of you!

Title: They Live by Night
Helena Bertinelli's Huntress
Vic Sage's Question (I'd be more than OK with Renee, if the writer had the Huntress still want a relationship with "The Question" & explore what that tells us about her mentally.
Todd Rice's Obsidian (might have to tone down his powers a bit... not sure where he stands at the moment)
Written & drawn in a very dark, film noir style... should probably be set in Gotham. (speaking of... Gotham City is either HUGE, or really, really bad place to live)

The Squadron of Justice: When I first thought of revamping the squadron, I had the idea of the government's answer to an apparently unstable and inefficient Justice League. That have been tweaked and elaborated a little. For those who don't know, The Squadron of Justice was a one-time team of the Fawcett characters acquired by DC who, alongside the Justice League of America and the Justice Society of America, battled King Kull in Justice League of America #135-137 (1976).
Spy Smasher, Ibis the Invincible, The Bulleteer, Captain Marvel and others comprise The Squadron (the initial name of the team). They are sanctioned by a mysterious but powerful organization that has invested interest in the survival of the human race and are charged with the responsibility of thwarting the next global crisis. But everything is not as it seems and dark secrets surround this team. How will they survive themselves?
The Return of Shazam: God in Us: This miniseries is all about giving the Marvel family its own rebirth story. Their purpose (especially Billy's) is reexamined and redefined in a way that stays true to the characters and fits them into the modern DC world. A definitive take on Billy is given here. Freddy's new role is established. And the epic mythology of Shazam is unleashed for the first time.
From the pages of Squadron of Justice, Captain Marvel is back! And not a moment too soon! Who are The Thrones and why did they give Freddy his new powers? What threat has returned from Shazam's past? What lies in Kahndaq's deadly future? A great war is coming and only The Marvel Family stands in its way in this riveting new epic that spans the rise of the primordial gods to the end of time!
SHAZAM!: Now that Captain Marvel and his family are returned and settled in, they go about doing what they do best- saving the world. I have a long term plot for the book that has a definite ending. Old and new characters, setting and concepts alike will be integrated into the book. In the wake of 'God in Us', the reader is introduced to an evolved Billy Batson. He is not a kid anymore. He has fully embraced his role and responsibilities not only as The World's Mightiest Mortal but The World's Mightiest Protector. He is the patriarch of the Marvel Family and one of the world's greatest heroes. For the first time in his life, he is truly worthy of The Power of Shazam.
Captain Marvel has his own book again. Nuff said.

Well, good luck to you... always remember that (my personal favorite) Peter David started & worked for years as a simple DC salesman, you never know. As you might can tell from my avatar, I may be biased.

Nightwing & Flamebird-Damian Wayne and Dick Greyson as the brand new dynamic duo. I'm going to miss those two together :frown:
Lex Luthor-Follow Lex Luthor in his constant battle against the man of steel and his quest for power. Lex Luthor: Man of Steel and Lex Luthor's staring role in Action Comics were both great stories and show that Luthor is viable as the star of his own comic. He's just such a great character and is one of the few villains that can work as a protagonist.
Secret Society of America-The Justice Society of America reimagined as covert world war II super human soldiers.

I want to create an all ages title that can take place within the DC Universe. My first thought on that always goes to "Dial H for Hero". Normally, I'd just start over from scratch with Robby Reed, but since the relaunch "is not a reboot", I'll create a new character.
Dial H for Hero- 10 year old Sean Davis thought moving to the small town of Littleville with his scientist mother after years of living in Chicago was going to be a bore. However, that was before he and his new friend Amy Kim find the "H-Phone". Just by dialing in H-E-R-O and hitting "send", either of them can become one of a thousand super-heroes or super-heroines. This is good, because Littleville has two major businesses: agriculture and super-science. The latter of which always seems to go out of control. Especially when the criminal organization Thunderbolt is involved.

That is the title of the book, which is a bi-monthly series with each issue a stand-alone story(s). Each issue is 80 or 96 pages.
The gimmick is each issue a different title rolls in and once (sometimes twice) a year we get issues of:
Whiz Comics, where a creative team gets its own take on the Marvel family. Stories would include, Cap, Cap Jr, Mary, and all the rest. Yes, Uncle and Tawny as well. The teams would change, unless demand for a team is awesome and then they get a Shazam series.
All-Star Comics, an old school JSA book with members each getting their own chapter drawn by a different artist. Get a variety of artists to do an eight or ten page story once or twice a year, even artists who don't usually do superhero stuff. These stories don't need to be in continuity and may occur in historic times (WWII, the 60's).
Mystery in Space is an anthology featuring a mix of science fiction stories and futuristic characters
Star Spangled Comics is an anthology featuring a wide variety of historic heroes. Tomahawk, Viking Prince, a namesake WWII era flag draped hero.
Brave and the Bold features team-ups. Each issue can feature a long story or multiple stories with rotating teams (A & B, B & C, C & D). Unusual teams will be the norm here. Probably no Batman either.
Sensation Comics features Wonder Woman and is designed to get more female readers. Here's the tough part, trying to do this without being condescending. I'd guess more of an emphasis on the supernatural, but I'd get some people on this that would know.

Is it bad that when I read this I imagine an amalgamation of the Metal Men and the Breakfast Club? I sure hope not, cause if that's what it'd be like I'd buy every issue.
In fact, can you just start writing that now?

I haven't been following the relaunch, but for the sake of argument, these are titles I'd want to do/have done.
1. Impulse- either restore Bart to his fun, Impulsive self or if need be, bring about Impulse 1,000,000 with an idea I had awhile ago. The important thing is the title would be *FUN* and not all angsty or whatever.
2. The Forgotten- a team of ten characters who know that the DCU has gone through several changes and seek to solve why they suddenly know this and what is to be done if they're ever to get their DCU(s?) back. The team would have a mix: The Question (Vic Sage), Lori Lemaris, Tomorrow Woman, Psycho Pirate, Pied Piper, Detective Chimp, Supergirl (Earth Angel version), Ventriloquist (and Scarface- female version?), and Skeets
3. Elseworlds- Out of continuity stories which could either set up their own universe(s) or just be random stories of various fun things... i.e. Kingdom Come Universe, Superfriends Universe, DCAU, etc. I'd make the stipulation that Batman and Superman should be severely limited for awhile, giving focus to the wide stable of other DCU characters out there. They could still appear in stories and stuff, but I wouldn't want every other issue or more starring them.
4. Wonder Woman: Mythology- I had a bunch of ideas for Wonder Woman and her place in the DCU and this would be a book to showcase those ideas and whatnot. It could be separate from her main book in terms of continuity if needed, but it doesn't have to be. Perhaps it could also focus more on Wonder Woman's supporting cast and villains, giving them more substance and greater recognition and interest.
5. Secret Society- let's have a book that focuses on the villains and how they try and maintain a network amongst beings who don't get along well and often clash far more than the heroes do. There'd be a core group... a sort of 'board of directors' if you will, with nearly anyone a possibility for guest starring or cameos.
6. Shazam: Mightiest Mortals- I'm glad to see I'm not the only Marvel Family fan. I'd love to see them make a resurgence and loved Ordway's series and the recent Johnny DC title.
7. The Dibny Duo Mysteries- Ralph and Sue use their new ghostly powers and their plucky intellect to solve some of DC's toughest mysteries. I'd want them to be *actual* mysteries, too! Something that the reader can try to solve along with the Dibnys.
8. Global Guardians- this team is the ultimate defense for the DCU and would consist of a team that should be able to handle anything: Mister Terrific, Martian Manhunter, Obsidian, Kid Eternity, Dial H for H.E.R.O., Ion (Kyle), Firestorm, and Doctor Fate... perhaps these characters would be tweaked to fit a more global theme.
9. Defending Countries United- a group of metahumans who feel that the U.N. is outdated and form their own superpowered coalition that seeks to determine the way the world will form. They wouldn't be 'villains' or 'heroes,' but would work to try and make the world follow their path. The team would be: Black Adam, Geo-Force, Artemis, Ra's al Ghul, Mera, etc.
10. Classified- a new 'Who's Who' to help get everyone caught up on the characters and such of the DC relaunch

What are some of your ideas?
The lack of a L.E.G.I.O.N title in the relaunch is a bit of a travesty. REBELS was probably one of the best titles DC put out in the last few years. Tony Bedard is an ensemble book MASTER.
If I was relaunching L.E.G.I.O.N, the first thing I would probably do though is change the name. The connection of the Legion of Super-Heroes is a little... tenuous and opens up all kinds of continuity nightmare fuel. I'm honestly not sure what to call it, because I'm bad at titles. The basic premises of Virl Dox building a galaxy wide police force would still be at the core of the title.
The core cast would be Vril Dox, Captain Comet, Lobo, Strata, Lyrissa Mallor, and Stealth. They would be the forward super-human/alien first strike force of a much larger non-powered interstellar police force, with Vril Dox as the architect/supreme commander. I would use the Omega Men as their first mission, only to discover that the charges against them are false. Leading to drama with the Vega System. Also they would bump heads with those self-righteous Green Lanterns from time to time.
I also have this crazy idea to put Beppo the Super-Monkey on the team for a little Kryptonian muscle. But I'm too sure if that would be a great idea or not.

Run, CALCULATOR, Run...
The president of the United States has been assassinated and it's clear who did it... the Calculator. The only problem is, the Calculator knows he didn't do it... or did he? With all of the mind controllers in the DCU, maybe he did. The Calculator must evade every hero and most of the villains in the U.S., using every ounce of cunning and guile he has to avoid mind-readers, super-speedsters, the world's greatest detective, and every law-enforcement agency out there. Meanwhile, he has to clear his name by any means necessary if he wishes to live anything approaching a normal life again.
Starring the Calculator, Martian Manhunter, the Elongated Man, and guest starring the entire DCU. When there's no one you can trust, can you trust yourself?
Written by Greg Rucka, art by Denys Cowan. A 24-issue maxi series.
