View Full Version : Noh-Varr should get his own series!

Re-reading Dark Avengers Annual #01, I would definitely buy an ongoing Noh-Varr series by Bendis and Bachalo! (or some writer who really explores the character). That story was great, and since Bendis put Noh with the Avengers he hasn't done much, so, what better than having him with his OWN stories? BTW, my ideal series would be one that DOESN'T TIE to EVERY EVENT Marvel puts out (even though I like them). So, what do you people think about an ongoing with this great character (who seems to have a LOT of potential.. he could even relate to the cosmic side of Marvel and all!)??

I'd be interested in a Noh Varr series by someone other than Bendis one that's more like Marvel Boy than his Avengers tenure.
And he needs a better name than Protector & if he's going to have Nega bands they should look like nega bands.

I like Bachalo as an artist choice though.

Maybe they could launch it as "Captain Marvel" and forget the "Protector" identity (keep the costume sans mask). I mean, we get that he must be Earth's protector, but that shouldn't be his name!

scrap the Protector suit and ID. just go back to Marvel Boy, or become Captain Marvel. remember that Illuminati mini where they inspired him to do something more with his life? build on that. have him finally take up the mantle of Mar Vell.

Only if he returns to the Marvel Boy identity or take the Capitain Marvel name and starts using his insectoid powers instead of beign only the Generic Mar-Vell wannabe number 12.

Also, bring Dr. Midas and Oubliette back.

There's only one writer I want to see write Noh-Varr, and I'll never forgive Bill Jemas from preventing that from happening...

Noh Varr, would be perfect good but much like Spider-Woman, even written by Bendis, the series wouldn't last.

Him co starring with another big name could work. My first thought is Nick Fury for a grounded/grumpy old Earth man vs. young semi idealistic/alien jerk. But I doubt Marvel doesn't have their own plans for Fury.

Maybe have it be something of a new Marvel Team up book. Noh Varr, jumping into problems as other heroes are trying to deal with them, like a instant backup when most othem don't even request his aide, but he feels this is needed to protect the planet. While the personal stories deal with him adapting to life on Earth and working with Avengers, military and other stuff. Would allow for a lot of jumping around in the MU and stuff, while fleshing out his character a little more.

I never read Marvel Boy so I don't know what the guy was like pre-Bendis, but when I think of the Protector, I just have a vision of someone with a cardboard personality eating cereal. Who kinda looks like Space Ghost with googly eyes.

I'd love to see an ongoing developing the more eccentric side of Noh-Varr's character. Noh-Varr as a superhero trying to protect Earth? Good. Nor-Varr as an arrogant young Namor-esque superhero who lives in the Cube and is trying to transform it into a colony of like-minded youthful superheroes who want to "change the world, man!" and buy into his Kree ideas with Oubliette as his first mate and sexual partner? Great.

I also love his relationship with Fantomex. This should continue to be developed.

-Pav, who thinks Noh-Varr could be a great member of a revamped Defenders team...

ugh he should not be Captain Marvel. he's so boring as an "Avenger' and it's Bendis that makes him boring and lame. maybe with another writer....

He would be a great member of such a team, heck he could head a Young Defenders, throwing him, probably She-Hulk Lyra, maybe Nico from Runaways or Ian McNee, Loa or the revived Namorita and the new Nighthawk. I'd buy that.

What about developing his role as protector of Earth?? Not so much as an Avenger per se, but I think his discovery of what motivates humans and what does he have to accomplish by being their champion could make for some great stories..
I mean, have him discover what being human means, while developing his relationship with Annie (the girl he's appeared so far with) and some other characters within the Marvel U WITHOUT forgeting his Kree origins! (keep the Kree aspect because of its cosmic potential!) That could perfectly work don't you think??

I do wonder why Bendis back off on calling him Captain Marvel. It's not like anyone else is using the name.

I'm not a fan of the protector name. Marvel Boy or Captain Marvel work better. But that aside, I might be willing to check out a book about him.

I know some aren't fond of Bendis altering the characters personality... and it's an entirely valid complaint. But I do think the current version could be a funny book (he sort of reminds me of Sai from Naruto). He's already got a girlfriend, so he's in a descent postion as far as having a supporting cast.

I wouldn't mind reading about him in a mini or whatever, but he hasn't done anything. He is a member of the Avengers, but I haven't really seen him do anything there. Don't care much about his codename, but would really appreciate if he used his original powers more.

Hoped Noh-Varr would get his own mini during Dark Reign.

Two writers who REALLY written him well have got to be Jason Aaron and Fred Van Lente.

Wasn't he supposed to get a series after Dark Reign? Did his mini end with a to be continued in Captain Marvel or something like that but he showed up in Avengers and became a background character called Protector?

I think his latest appereances have been in Dark Avengers Annual #01, Ms Marvel #50 (back-up story) and then in Bendis's Avengers.. but NO mini

These for me.

A series like that by Zeb Wells & Stefano Caselli would definitely get my money.

I offer to do it for free Marvel.
Let's do this.

he needs to do something big; something as impressive as making several city blocks into one giant curse word. no ongoing, yet. give him another mini. and i think he should go up against Doctor Doom; on Doom's hometurf. why? because Doom's supposed to be the best the marvel universe has to offer in villainy. and because Doom believes himself to the ultimate defender of Earth; by right of birth. i think Noh-varr has similar beliefs. the kree are known for seeing themselves as a morally and physically enhanced version of humanity. it's time to test this out. just imagine the dialogue between the two. i imagine that they both have something to teach to one another.

and, because i was rereading a lot of Dark Reign this weekend, i think Noh's role in toppling all of this is underappreciated. Moonstone gets the credit for planting a seed of doubt in his mind, sure. but there was nothing noble about her motivations. Noh-varr struck the killing blow by giving Lindy Reynolds the means to fight back. everything went south once she failed to kill the Sentry. that's what woke the Void up. and the Void was the reason Osborn was supremely confident about what he was doing. imagine them trying to attack asgard w/o him/her/it.

yeah ditch the Protector costume. His original green suit is more suitable and heroic-like.

I'll agree with that, but I don't particularly dislike the Kree suit. I'd much rather they get rid of that chin-spinach they've stuck him with the past couple of issues.

I enjoyed Dark Avengers but I'd prefer Marvel Boy going back to his balls-out crazy Morrison roots rather than standard superhero fare.

This. I would love for them to build off of his appearance in the Illuminati.

Also, this costume is perfect for him:

But this...

...is utter crap. Maybe if they got rid of his mask it could work.

But I wouldn't mind him becoming Captain Marvel and wearing this costume:

I'm all for a Marvel Boy series or even a Protector series if they give him some of his personality back and make an effort to explain what happened to it... but in Avengers he's pretty flat. And not in a Cable-from-Cable-and-Deadpool-crazy-awesome-flat, just flat.

new Defenders team, then. i'm sure that Ian McNee would appreciate the push, as a doc strange analog. they are of similar age.

well it might help if i spelled his name correctly.

Crosta
http://www.comicvine.com/crosta/29-63222/

An Atlantean mutant secreted away by his mother after the abandonment of Atlantis. He has since been forced to become Namor's ward and join the ranks of the X-Men

Crosta is an Atlantean that developed a mutantion that allowed him to create sonic booms. He was also disfigured because of this mutation.

Crosta's parents had gotten a divorce when he was very young. His father wanted to raise their child to be a soldier, while his mother wanted a different life for her son. Eventually (presumably at puberty), he developed a mutation that not only altered his physical appearance, but also gifted him with the ability to induce shock waves. When Atlanteans were ordered to take up life on land, the young mutant's mother remained undersea with her son, against Namor's wishes, feeling that her son would never know freedom on land.

Sounds good. It'd be an interesting mix with everyone on the team having some kind of non-human/616 perspective. Maybe add Ice Man or something for someone more experienced to try to take over...
