Superman's been the figurehead for so long, it'd be interesting to see Batman give it a go.

Then again, he's apparently heading up Justice League International, and I personally prefer Superman nowadays, so I'm at a toss-up...

Superman. Although honestly I think they should have elections.

Superman will probably lead, but it will be the situation where Batman will be like "yeah, okay, sure, go ahead, I'll go do my deal"

Didn't Johns say that Batman is the one getting the gang together so to speak, though?

Although seventies blacksploitation version, please. "Don't be playin' mister spooky with me. My Grandmaw's scarier than you in her sunday Go-to-meein' dress. Sit yo' jive-talkin', droopy eared, nancy-boy-cape wearing self DOWN, or this tiara's going where the sun don't shine, dig?"

(Well, I'd buy it.)

Yeah, I think the solicit for Justice League was something like, "Batman discovers a terrible new threat, and has to assemble Earth's Greatest Heroes to stop it."

I have two slightly different ideas:

1. Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman all co-lead the team.
2. They do rotating elections--they could even have the fans involved and vote like the recent Legion election!

I don't see why the poll doesn't include all the characters. Most have proven themselves as leaders. Batman and Superman, while most likely, aren't the only options.

I couldn't see them being led by the hot headed flash . Batman would go nuts. Or the over zealous wonder woman. And cybrog is not close to superman and batman level. Aquaman meh. Maybe Hal.

How is wonder woman really zealous? I realize that the two OBVIOUS choices are Batman and Superman, but I don't see why they should be the ONLY options.

Edit: especially when the thread asks who SHOULD be leading the Justice League

In the book and tv shows I've seen her in she is over zealous and doesn't keep a level head of leadership.

The TV shows? You mean the ones that turn her into a woman with barely any compassion or real anger management? Okay yeah.

What comics have you read?

Well, in this new continuity, Batman has been around a lot longer than Superman. So in that case, Batman.

Oh the JSA issue.

The completely mis-characterized JSA issue, I understand now.

In all seriousness all that issue showed was Geoff Johns' mishandling of the character. Read Wonder Woman: the Circle to see a true representation of the character.

Is it just me or didn't John's say that he had wanted Aquaman to lead the Justice League? I thought this was hinted at during Brightest Day when everyone was questioning Aquaman's continuing presence.

You are correct. Geoff stated at NYCC that he wanted to write a scene where Aquaman declares his intention to run for leader of the Justice League. And this was several months before we all found out that he was actually writing Justice League.

The only thing we don't know is the outcome of that scene. I, for one, hope Aquaman wins the vote.

I really don't see Batman as an obvious choice at all. He's always been the battlefield tactician, and he'll probably keep that role, but as for the actual day-to-day leadership and public persona of the team, Superman, Aquaman and Wonder Woman seem much more fitting. I'd probably go with the former myself.

Reservoir Angel

Clearly it's going to be the Flash. I can dream can't I?

Realistically, it's probably going to be Superman, with Batsie in a very prominent "2nd in command" role that sees him make decisions for the group too whenever he has to.

Why exactly do they need a leader?

The Justice League should be a team of equals.

Nowadays I need to see Superman earn that post. Tradition is such a cop out. I need them to show he wants to lead cause in the last few years he is rather bad in the stepping up and inspiring confidence dept . I am glad they are rebooting him and we'll probably see a Supes who deserves to be a leader. But if they were not and we had to deal with the current wussy Superman...Batman to me would have been better.

Won't it be great if a woman led the team though? WW has never had a shot. Why not her?

I can see Arthur being a natural leader too.

In the book and tv shows I've seen her in she is over zealous and doesn't keep a level head of leadership.

The WW of the JL/U cartoon is an aggressive, hot head and different from her comic incarnation. She would be a terrible leader. We don't know how Diana will be portrayed this time around but Perez/Jimenez/ Rucka WW had a lot of restraint and wisdom.

It would be kind of nice to have Superman back leading the League.

BUT I'm picking Aquaman. He's getting a big push with the reboot. Also, he is the King of Atlantis, so he knows how to lead.

Superman for me. Bruce would have his hands full with INC and I doubt he'd be able to handle both. Supes hopefully would get back a title he always earned and only in recent times DC has messed him up. Johns putting Arthur to push him forward is a possibility. But I can't see Arthur caring frankly. He has a kingdom that holds his attention and the idea Johns says Arthur wants leadership ...sure he'd be arrogant enough to think he deserves it...but it doesn't work that way, does it? I'd quicker say Batman if we couldn't have Supes and Bruce is more a team player now than the jerk of the last decade, so he would be wiser.

cuz you know it's absolutely necessary to have them on every comic book ever, including all relaunched DC books.

Personally, I want Barry to lead.

Anyway, I think they should hold a leader election like the Legion used to and like Young Justice did that time. Only, to keep with this "brave new world" with the digital distribution and all, they could use a more high tech method of voting rather than writing in to the comic. Maybe a poll on the DC website or perhaps people could text their vote to DC.

Batman in the DCnu he's been around longer than the others and is used to leading the bat family. Other than that maybe Aquaman for the reasons that he's born to lead.

Superman and Batman will probably share duties.

I think this is how it should be too. They both have strengths and weaknesses as Leaders. Clark is superior at rallying people and getting them to work together while Bruce is a better strategist and tactician. Though they could just bring in Nightwing and have the best of both worlds.

Flash is a hothead?!? Maybe Wally was, but the current Flash, Barry Allen, never came across that way to me. (Even with Geoff Johns' writing!)

I could see you not wanting Aquaman as the leader after that whole JLA-Detroit fiasco (even though that was, what, about 25 years ago?), so I guess Hal makes sense . . . as long as he doesn't go all psycho again!

The way Johns is pushing the character (and deservedly so), I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Aquaman rise as the major player of the JL and make a showing at running the team in actuality, if not in "official" title.

However, I'd like to see em do something similar to the old school Avengers, where they had founding chairs and would rotate duty.

Green Lantern. Or Green Arrow.

The Man From Room X

Neither. The stupid BatGod gets enough devotion as it is. Superman is too much of an idealist.

I would pick Aquaman or Wonder Woman to lead.

Superman. No question really! Besides, Batman wouldn't have time since he's in like 500 books and leading 40 teams.

Or, Green Arrow. I doubt Johns could handle the ramifications of such a thing, but under a coy author? That could kinda rock.

The Big Trinity (Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman) are going to discuss matters about every mission behind doors, but in front of the others it's going to be Superman the one giving orders... I hope. I'd like to see something like that.

Hey lets be fair to Bruce he only on three teams and only has four solos.

Besides no time has never stopped Wolverine or Spider-man who still having solo adventures while Wolverine is on four different teams and Spidey is on three. And heck Wolverine is going to be still doing that while leading Half the X-men. Spidey by contrast only has to do a day job.

Not my pick, but I'd hardly call it wrong. She's lead the team before after all (after Supermans death-just before Morrisons League).
