You're probably clicking on this expecting something to do with Washington DC

But no, a bunch of well-meaning, concerned fa...

Ah who am I kidding, a bunch of idiots with too much time and less sense are gonna protest DC comics's relaunch at San Diego Comicon.

They even have a Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=191539177563602

I've been critical of DC's relaunch, truthfully, the lack of big name talent, confusing "this counts, this doesn't" continuity, odd title selection, and expensive promotion, looks to me like this will end up a huge clusterfuck and blow up in their collective faces.

That said, a protest! Jesus wept!

Just do like me and others who don't like it and don't buy the damn things, simple, no?

Why do you hate our freedom? Are you some kind of pinko, Islamofascist commie?

I say throw the tea bags into Metropolis harbor! :evilangry:

See, I could see this as potentially being fun, if it were being done with a sense of humor. But fanboys don't have those.

I think we should get the furries to protest the DC Protestors and then get the Westboro Baptist Church to protest the furries and then get the Hell's Angels to protest the WBC...

...an' then get some popcorn.

It's California, so throw some protesting porn stars on the pile, too...um, as it were.

It'd be funny to watch happen, as like 5 guys get together, start protesting and then walk away ten minutes later after realizing how stupid they look.

That, or enjoy nice comfortable walks on a mainly empty SDCC floor.

Because I'd imagine more people would want to watch these protests than see dumb comic crap in a convention hall.

What will their chant be?

"Hell no, we won't go... back to Number One on our comic numbering!"

I think it's a valid form of expression, good for them.

I mean, yeah, I can see why folks might want to mock them and make fun of them, but hell, I could probably say that about the majority of the people at SDCC.

Protest on, fellows. You're unlikely to help anything, but I seriously doubt you'll hurt anything either.

Unless you're blocking a fire exit or something. Don't do that.

Screw the popcorn, you could sell tickets to that.

You can't buy this sort of publicity.

DC should send them a nice "Thank You" note.

Why do you got to be pulling furries into this  lol

Exactly. The worst reaction to the ... what are they calling it? Revamp? From DC's perspective, the worst reaction to the revamp is apathy. This tells other fans that people really care about DC characters and that maybe there is something interesting there.

Has any protest of any form of entertainment ever done anything but brought said entertainment more publicity and interest?

Paradox

Not that I'm aware of, no. In fact, I have my suspicions sometimes that certain acts anonymously ramp up heavy-duty protesting Christian factions just to get them to protest.

I could swear it was done by Marilyn Manson's people, but I have no proof.

GeneralReadingMan

Yeah Manson had been performing for years, when the religious and family professional prudes went after him, he was all the sudden a huge hit.

How sad is it that I actually thought this was a thread about the DCU reboot and not politics?

You know I'd be laughing, but then again I made a facebook page saying "We Demand Dick As Batman!" So I probably shouldn't be talking.

And to think, it wasn't that long ago that people were complaining about Batman being a dick. Now they're complaining that he's not.

You can't buy this sort of publicity.

Actually, you probably can. I'm sure there are P.R. flacks who would think nothing of organizing a protest of their client to draw attention to them.

I'm surprised actors haven't protested how reboots and recasting are now normal :D

Apparently the girl who is organizing the protest, is doing so because of Harley Quinn's outfit in Suicide Squad.

I assume she also has protested and will protest the releases of the Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City video games, from where DC got the inspiration for Harley's new look, she wants to be consistent I'm sure.

She surely isn't simply doing his at a big media covered event in a bid for more attention.

Naw, I'm sure she isn't

Oh, well that makes more sense.

No, really. I'm being completely serious. Renumbering and retcons are business as usual at this point, but Harley Quinn's costume is really, really bad.

Even compared to the ones in Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.

Well, to be fair, any organized protest is a bid for attention. It's kind of the whole point.
