I'm sure there's a reason, but dang if I know it. Looking at the Panini magazine, which has been running much longer than many of our favourite comics, I have to wonder why there is no conventional magazine containing reprinted DC comics, to be sold at newsstands and supermarkets. Price: about $5 or so. They should contain about eight reprinted issues, none older than the 70s, going through to a few years ago. Kids don't care about continuity. There should be ample ways through these books for readers to get in on the digital or store based business.

I'd have:
Superman Magazine
Batman Magazine
Wonder Woman/Supergirl Magazine
Green Lantern/Flash Magazine
JLA Magazine

Just to start with and test the waters. I know this gets proposed every now and then, but seriously. If they can do it in Europe, would it be so hard to just try elsewhere? Of course, the issues should be carefully selected for quality and also contain stuff kids like such as activities and whatnot. And apologies in advance if these already exist... I've never seen them.

Why do most people think magazine format is for kids. Heavy Metal is a very popular comic magazine targeted at adults here in the states. I think something like that could work for DC if they put some top talent on it.

Trouble is, this will be cheap because it's reprints, which kids won't mind. Hiring top talent and producing new material is really expensive, and you end up with the exact situation we have now. But I don't know about Heavy Metal, so I really can't argue.

You know, that's a really good question. I never thought about it.

DC still publishes Mad Magazine, but I don't think that's what you're looking for.

Marvel does something like this with magazines that feature characters in whatever movies or cartoons are current -- Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, etc. But those seem to be one-shot publications. Advantage is they at least get a print version of their characters into magazine racks in grocery stores and the like. If DC has done that much with GL I haven't noticed it.

Also Marvel did have some ongoing B&W magazines in the 1970s ... I can't recall DC ever going that route. Don't know why.
