I wonder if Dark Horse plans to make any new Mask comics, other than of course something to do with the new movie.
If they do bring him back, he should be his old slapstick with blood and guts self, not the PG-13 pathetic Mask popularized by the first movie.

I was a fan of The Mask when I was getting into comics for the first time, so I'd love to see it come back in some form. I still think The Hunt for Green October is still one of the best Mask series, and a decent comic in general. Honestly though, with that sequel coming out and appearing to be nothing short of a crime against humanity, I hope Dark Horse keeps Mask in the vault for a while longer unless they want that movie associated more strongly with the franchise.

I couldn't get past that first issue of The Hunt for Green October, just really badly written, filled with cliches. That having been said, the concept of the Mask is completely kickass, they give me the book and I'll soar with it. ;)

I was rereading it when I got them back from you, and I didn't see the cliches and still thought it was well written throughout, but maybe this is still rooted in my nostalgoa. No. It's good and no worse than most comics out there today. The artist dealing with the loss of his wife, his hands, and traumatization of his child while the rich guy responsible escapes sanction and the artist was plunged into poverty.....that made for good stuff.
Plus....Germans, the mob, and Ninjas!

My favorite is the first Mask series ever. I don't know why Hollywood dumbed down the Mask's vicious side so much in the first movie and made Stanley Ipkiss a likeable person, unlike in the comic where he becomes a homicidal lunatic with the Mask and ends up being killed by his girlfriend.

I guess because, on the screen, a guy with a big green head acting like a maniac will draw a bigger audience if its comedic. The premise is kind of silly.
If he's a violent maniac....well.....most people would be confused and put off.

I haven't seen any trailers for the new movie. I hope it does the comic justice. But somehow, I doubt it.

It's a crime against humanity as a film itself, and really does no justice to the comic

It looks atrocious.
I have a bunch of MASK comics around here somewhere. Gonna have to pull them out and reread them!

The first movie was well and good, but I wouldn't want to see the Mask without seeing Jim Carrey or someone zanier than even him play the role of the original man-toon.

Maybe the new movie will feature Walter, the Mask's quiet but powerful antagonist from the earlier stories.

I dunno, I could stand to see the Mask kept in the vault. They got three good series out of him by Arcudi (the only ones I count), and even that was stretching the premise about as far as it could go.
What else is there to do? Bad guy gets the Mask and kills people until he's tricked into taking it off. Or, good guy gets the Mask and is tempted by the dark side until he throws it away. Really, after Walter put it on, all of my curiosity was sated.

Hopefully the new movie won't be as bad as some people said it looks like it's going to be.

My favorite story was "World Tour". After the story in New Orleans, the series just seemed to be a bunch of one-shots and crossovers.
i never got any of the mask books, but then, suddenly, there was the movie, which i didn't see. and he was all over the dark horse section of comics.
i don't understand the premise/appeal.
