While its too early to tell, a number of things on DC's horizon points to a rocky future, if DC were to be bought by Marvel (yes I know Dc is owned by WB and Marvel is owned by Disney) who would be the Flagship character? Batman or Spider-man?

Batman is probably more popular. But the two characters can't really be compared as they're so different. Superman would be the flagship character as he represents what superheroes are meant to be.

Anytime Superman's name gets tacked in this role I don't know whether to yawn or grit my teeth.

Although I would like to stress that a buy-out is highly unlikely nor would I want such a thing to happen. Both DC and Marvel are fantastic companies who have pushed each other to greatness. The comicbook industry is finding things tough just now but it has survived before. Evolution is taking place.

What's wrong with Supes?

Or not. Warner Bros. ain't selling to Disney. And they're definitely not selling Batman, their one unquestionably profitable superhero movie source, to Disney. Even if they shutter DC and sell off most of the characters, they're hanging on to Batman.
Obviously this would never happen in a million years.
But if it did, I suspect Spidey would still be their flagship character.
The House of Ideas is the house that Stan Lee built. And I think Peter Parker is a big part of that legacy. That wouldn't change just because they had access to Supes and Bats.

Let's see, Supes would still be a mediocre selling mid tier character like he is selling right now because Grant Morrison would not work for Marvel heh, so scratch the Kryptonian. Batman is ahead of Spidey in popularity and worldwide recognition, but just barely. Don't get me wrong, it's close and both are A listers in every way but Bats is bit ahead. And also modern Batman is so like a Marvel character, he would just fit in so well. And why would you not want to push your newest toy? After all the Bats in Marvel would be a huge selling point.

Spider-man would definitely win in this poll because we are in marvel comics thread.

If your weird bullsh!T What if Elseworlds was happening in our universe scenario actually occurred, it would definitely be Spider-man. Disney has a hold of Marvel (licensing in particular) now. Spidey is much more kid friendly and universally sympathetic than Batman. Think of it this way.....who is less likely to cripple Donald Duck in a crossover?
