With a new arc in today's issue #7, writer Nick Spencer blows out the "T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents" history with tales of the past illustrated by Mike Grell and Nick Dragotta and the modern return of lost A-list villain Iron Maiden.

It's funny how he only used Marvel references. Exclusive, indeed.
Great article, though, he seems really passionate about what he does.

Despite the Marvel deal, it doesn't sound like he's off T.H.U.N.D.E.R. just yet, which is good.

I *LOVE* this title. It is criminally under-read.

Yeah, that felt weird for an article about a DC book.

Spencer is allowed to write T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents under his Marvel exclusive as long as he wants or until it ends.
If I'm DC, I keep publishing it regardless of sales until his exclusive is done and then try to sign him to a DC exclusive!

I know, in fact I think the whole exclusivity thing is kind of silly. Let a writer decide what he or she wants to write, so long as either company is willing to publish it.
I hope Spencer drops the exclusivity deal, I hope to see him write JLA one day!

Huh, so Len Brown (Dynamo) and Iron Maiden hooked up and had a kid, who is now grown up and part of THUNDER and going after her mom.
In Solson's one THUNDER comic, they postulated that Dynamo and Iron Maiden married and had kids, tho the IM was dead and Len Brown retired.

What a great interview!
The Marvel references didn't bother me, if anything I enjoyed the fact that a writer could appreciate both companies and talk about them interchangeably.
I also feel he pays respect to DC with Mike Grell and overall his take on a classic DC title.
I hope the title gains steam and sells well, would hate for Spencer to have to wrap up this story before he is ready.

You sure you got that completely right?
I ask because, I had thought that this was just for the first 10 or 12 issues of THUNDER, and not 'as long as he wants to'.
That was my recollection of what I read.

Not what he said at C2E2. He's on the book for as long as he wants.

Really glad he is sticking with the book, one of the best DC is putting out.

I had a lot of trepidation about this book, but seriously, Nick Spenser has blown me away. I love the fact that he refers back to the original agents, rather than discarding their history and their stories... and I'm super-chuffed he's managed not to have any crossovers with other DC titles, or even really any indication that it's actually set in the DCU.
Plus, the absolute cavalcade of guest creators who've shown why they've still go it in spades, from Howard Chaykin to George Perez to this issue's Mike Grell... gorgeous work, none of which diminishes from the great stuff Cafu has been doing on the main story.
Definitely picking the trade up when DC releases it and I'm hoping, if it can keep to this standard, that it sticks around for a long while yet.

Just to play devil's advocate, so if there were 20 Batman books and no Wonder Woman book, and people said "how come there's no Wonder Woman book", DC could say "we don't have any writers who want to write Wonder Woman, they all want to write Batman."?

Except, does anyone really care since Spencer will almost certainly not be writing it?
I don't want that to seem harsh, but this is very much 'his' book, and I don't think I'm too terribly interested in the THUNDER Agents themselves to pick up the book based on the strength of the characters.
I'd be much more chuffed to hear that, say, Xombi was continuing, since they've actually got Rozum still on board.

You never know. I mean, at this point we know nothing about who may be writing it. It probably isn't Spencer, but his replacement could be someone just as talented. Personally, I do like the THUNDER Agents themselves, they have a very 60s feel to them which I appreciate.

He's Marvel exclusive
He put a clause in the contract where Thunder Agents is an exception.
What no one knows is if it has a specific length of time. Rumor is its open ended and is there as long as Spencer wants to write it.

According to BleedingCool, this is the one of book surviving the relaunch. The other two are either by Grant Morrison or by Neal Adams.
So, doesn't it make sense that the reason it is not rebooting is because this way they'll be able to keep Nick Spencer? Maybe his contract specifies that he can continue in THUNDER Agents while it lasts and if DC relaunch it, he wouldn't be able to write it.

Either or? Both BATMAN INC and BATMAN ODYSSEY are coming back, according to those comments from DC.

Okay, well that is my mistake then! As long as Spencer continues writing it, I'll continue reading it.
From bleeding cool...
HUNDER Agents will return, and yes, will still have Nick Spencer writing.
Nicola Scott is working on an upcoming DC project.

I know I'm in the minority, but I couldn't care less who's writing the book. I'm a T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents fan and will support the book regardless of the creative team.

Ah good, so DC aren't certifiably insane after all.
Now we just need books for the other super talents that haven't been announced yet, like Bryan Q Miller, Paul Dini and Pere Perez.

That's indeed great news. Been a fan of the 80s since the short-lived 80s series.
