I have high hopes for the run of these two fine writers. BUT that art ... yeesh. Like was said before me, NOT my cup of tea at all.
And really, it's time to give the New Mutants their own costumes. The matchy-matchy outfits really stand out when every other X-person seems to have their own signature costume.

It is probably just me and my rather "specific" art aesthetic, but the X-books as a whole just seems to be all over the place artwise. They are trying out these "new" artists across the board but none of them seem to exactly fit the title they illustrate.

From X-Factor to Uncanny X-men...the artwork all looks and feels "phoned in" without any dynamism and visual impact and story-telling.

I am not saying these guys are talentless, they have talent and potential...they are just not very interesting, visually. Wotever happened to cutting edge visuals to go along with the cutting edge stories for which the X-Men franchise were known?

In all seriousness, I guess the identity of Blond-X will be revealed when New Mutants #25 hits the racks.

As for Kitty, They had Henry quit the X-Men, Emma is a pathetic shell of a housewife, Rogue is a complete **** up and Magneto's concubine, so I guess that leaves Kitty to take up the slack.

I believe the complaints stem from uncertainty as to who Captain America was talking to in the first image: Doug or Kitty. A man. Or a woman. This is not a common occurrence in comics. Discerning male from female.

Granted, these pages are unlettered, so the context of their exchange is still unknown, but I'd also like to point out that in the preview page following that, Sunspot's and Magma's facial expressions both give the viewer the impression they've either just soiled themselves or haven't taken their necessary meds yet.

But artistic preference is relative.

I'm sold - but my flippin' goodness that art is bad. With so many awesome things happening to this title, I guess I should of assumed there had to at least be one drawback. Sugar Man, X-Man, and Blink are finally returning - but its so disappointing that they won't have a good enough artist to do them justice.

I agree a lot with that (and please don't pay attention to the inquisitors on these boards), I would even call the art kinda "neutral", "indicial" (except for X-Factor) and it's like the art-team is defining what will be an A-List Title or not. Why not Mike Deodato onto NW ? Tom Cokker ?

I know it's also a "reader-friendly" decision but I'd like more identity some books, just to make them more distinctive from each others.

Maybe "underwhelming" is the better word for it, but I guess I just expected a little more. This is sort of a new beginning for this title. New writers. New direction. New roster. So I would assume that they would want to make a lasting impression with the introduction of this pseudo-new beginning. But this art just leaves a lackluster quality mark all over it.

I'm still stoked about this series. I love Sugar Man, X-Man, and Blink - and they are returning. I love all of the New Mutants, especially Warlock and Cypher - and they are staying (though I'm saddened by Cannonball). So I have plenty to be thrilled about - but art is a major turn-on or turn-off for me when it concerns comics. Bad art can completely ruin a story for me, no matter how good the story is.
