Tom DeFalco, Ron Frenz and Sal Buscema are set to produce their first work for DC Comics in decades in the just-announced "Superman Beyond" one-shot, a story based in the same continuity as the popular "Batman Beyond."

I would rather have seen what they would do on a normal Superman book.

Ron and Randall Frenz and Sal Buscema produced a story arc at the end of the 1999 triangle period called "Strange Visitor". I love Sal's inks on Frenz. I think they look great.
I am very much looking forward to picking this up...almost as much as the Simonson/Bogdonove project thats coming out this summer!

I was just thinking that it would be cool to get to know the Superman of Beyond more.
I wish the artist would be replaced on Batman Beyond, though. I don't want to pay 2.99 for it.

I've thought so ever since "The Call," but I've also been rather unimpressed with anything relating to Batman Beyond that DC's brought out.

It's possible to work for more than one company and to work on multiple projects. I don't think this DC one shot is keeping them from working on Spider-Girl. Marvel cancelling Spider-Girl and giving the title to another character is what did that.
I like their work, so I'll be looking forward to this.

Not to derail this any further, but DeFalco didn't say he was DC exclusive. But more May Parker Spider-Girl was already highly unlikely, hence that "The End" story.

True, but the comic did ended with "The end...For now." So there is a possibility for it to come back someday.

Not anytime soon. They seem content to push Anya Corazon as the new Spider-Girl, and Defalco wasn't very diplomatic about that. I doubt any May stories will be seeing the light of day for a while.

Tom DeFalco?!? The guy who gave us "Kickers Inc."?!?
I haven't read anything by him since the last century, but he was a lame writer back then, and he potentially makes Brian Michael Bendis seem like Nabokov!!!!
I ain't buying this . . . no how, no way!
(When will DC finally restore Superman to period where he gets good writers, not hacks?!?!?)

Marvel seems very determine to have Anya Corazon as the new Spider-Girl successful, anyway they can. It's too bad that they don't want to use the Mayday Parker from the Earth-X series to Earth-616. The Spider-Island saga is their attempt to give Anya Corazon Spider-Powers, and make them permanent. The only problem is that she is not related to Peter Parker, unlike Mayday. While I'd love to see Mayday from Earth-X come to Earth-616, it's very doubtful that it'll happen.

Last time she was seen in the DCAU was when she quit the JLA and went to the 31st century to join the Legion. I doubt she'll be in the one-shot, considering that.

Anybody can exist that hasnt been stated to not exist,so conner kent exist until someone official says he doesnt, and it would be nice to see the superman family still kicking.

Whoa, this sounds excellent. Too bad it is just a one-shot. I don't normally buy anything Superman or Batman related, but I will be in on this. Rereading the old ROM series from Marvel right now and had forgotten how much I love Sal Buscema' work.

According to Bleeding Cool, a JLA Beyond series is supposed to follow it up. I'd imagine they'd get the same creative team.
For me, it's an underwhelming one, by both the standards of today and by the work the team put out in their prime. Defalco's Thor and Fantastic Four were atrocious.
Is this really what Harras is bringing to the table? A bunch of writers, editors and ideas past their prime?

Literally decades ago. Late 70's. Mainly work in Superman Family.

Even then, I'd say Mayday's story has been told, she's never going to have a big "Gwen Stacy" moment in her life because she's too careful and her parents are too careful. I think Spider-Girl acheived what it set out to do...show Peter, the everyman's hero that could be you, could have the happy ending and the enduring legacy. The last couple of years with SG, it was somebody else's story being told (her clone April)
This is what I like seeing...Tom's ability to take possible futures for heroes and weave epic mythologies out of them is what made me a fan of the MC2 universe, he fits the "Beyond" theme like a glove. I hope this goes beyond a one-shot.

That doesn't mean that Conner doesn't exist. There's a lot that happened between the end of "Destroyer" and the start of "Rebirth" where Conner could exist.

I'm not a fan of the Batman Beyond show. It's rare that I pass up a Superman comic, but DeFalco's writing drops this firmly into the NO SALE column.

Very interesting development. I kinda expected a Levitz/Giffen announcement, with the certain hints that were dropped a few weeks back, but this is a delightful surprise.
Nice to see DeFalco at DC for the first time in many decades. IIRC, Sal Buscema moved to DC to ink a bunch of stuff after he (and his brother John) left Marvel in 1996 or so. And of course Ron was the ongoing SUPERMAN artist for a few years after Jurgens moved to writing only.

I resent the "idiotic" comment. My experience with DeFalco's "writing" in the past has been very unrewarding, and I have a tendency to prefer much of the writing from the 1980's and 1990's over the tpb-focused story stretching that seems to give many of today's comicbooks a "did anything happen in this issue?" feel.
Like I said: if he's writing it, I'll go out of my way to not buy it! (And a few other comments make it seem like I'm not alone in feeling this way.)

De Falco's writing has been hit and miss for me over the years, but his collaboration with Ron frenz always seems to bring out the best in him. I really enjoyed their Spider-Man run in the 80's, their post-Simonson Thor run, and their recent Spider-Girl work. I'll definitely check this one out.

Supergirl quits the JLA to join the LSH? Didn't DC already do that a few years back?
And if Supergirl quits the JLA, who takes her place? She was taking the place of Mon-El, who suddenly stopped being a member . . . is next up Beppo the Supermonkey or Comet the Superhorse? (I figure Krypto's above joining a pathetic group like the current musical-chairs membership of the JLA.)

I'm talking about the JLU cartoon, which is what Beyond is based off of. I have no idea what you're talking about.

I think DeFalco may a good stab at recapturing the classic Lee & Kirby feel when he was doing Thor, but his dialogue for characters was just plain awful.

You know, you're right. I kinda think that, had a clone of Superman been made, we would have seen him at some point in BB, but you're right. No way of knowing at all, since a writer could just as easily insert him.

I quite liked it myself. It was bombastic, over the top and not remotely realistic, which is exactly what I want from Thor.

Sure there is. She felt more at home in the 31st century. That was the reason for her exit from the show in the first place.
Echoing what someoen else above me said, I don't get why so many people want Conner and Kara shoe-horned into this. Hell, I saw someone say if they did Superman Beyond, it should be about Conner 20 years in the future.
Not that it isn't a good concept, but why call it "Beyond" then if you wanna throw out everything the series established in the first place.

That may be okay for Thor's / Asgardian dialogue, but he seemed to be that way for human beings without any power / mythology as well, which makes it less effective and painful to read.

IIRC, Sal Buscema moved to DC to ink a bunch of stuff after he (and his brother John) left Marvel in 1996 or so.
Sal worked on "The Superman Revenge Squad" arc in early 1997, which was just before "Transformed" took place.
You know, you're right. I kinda think that, had a clone of Superman been made, we would have seen him at some point in BB, but you're right. No way of knowing at all, since a writer could just as easily insert him.
That was Adam Beechen's reasoning for his Hush arc in last year's mini-series. There was plenty of room for a version of that story to occur. Afterall, several B:TAS episodes were adapted straight from the comics. As well as "For The Man Who Has Everything" in JLU. In fact, when Bruce Timm talked about Doomsday for S:TAS, he said there weren't plans for him, but if there were, it would be like they did with Bane. Adapting a story to fit their continuity and ending it their own way. Which we got when Doomsday debuted in JL and returned in JLU.
