Simple question...

This was inspired by the Wolverine is an Avenger thread... It seems many posters seem to dispute the content of Logan's character and whther or not he truly a good man...

I don't think I need to elborate much on this...

Wolverine does alot of questionable things in the name of the greater good.. But has he done too much and effectively become a force of evil?? Does the good outweigh the bad... Does it even matter is his soul too stained...??

I don't whether or not he has crossed a line but he is teetring on edge...

What do you think??

How can he be a bad person when the only negative thing they can say about him is that he kills people.
Hes a great guy thats shown to be a father figure for alot of kids.

By most people's standards, that's quite a biggie.

Yes but as a character in the MU hes hardly the only one that goes out and kills villains. Does that make him bad? Is he a serial killer now? Does that make every hero who kills villains a bad person?

I think it get's people's backs up if a character is portrayed as a "hero" when they have a death toll like Wolverine's. Some writers acknowledge his crimes, others gloss over them. It's the latter that causes irritation amongst fans.

Were some of Wolverine's killings justified? Probably. But he's no doubt racked up a few innocents along the way as well. Each death a MU character tots up can only be viewed case by case.

I don't think Wolverine is a bad person. I also don't think he's a very good person either. He has a sense of honor, but he's a jerk and a degenerate plenty of times. He's not a nice guy to be around and he's got a long list of character flaws. But he's still a hero at heart. So I'm hesitant to vote either way. There's a reason why he's with the X-men and the Avengers. He's capable of doing the right thing while being a jerk along the way.

It depends on the writer.

He seems to bounce between a good person who has been forced to do so many bad things that he isn't sure of himself anymore to a bad person desperately trying to become a good one.

I think Wolverine is an amazing character who just seems to lose his way every now & again but when he's good, he's so damn good. And when he's bad...

From what I was reading in Origins, dude ain't no good. Growing up, he was written as being an honorable person. After HoM however, it seems that he has no honor.

Yes. He's a bad person trying to be good. He means well, but deep down inside the animal is always trying to get out. And so he uses that to do good. But at his core, he's a bad dude. Most of us are.

He drinks, smokes, swears, kills people, is a bad influence, poor role model, possible pedophile, possible adulterer. . . yeah, pretty bad.

He drinks, smokes, swears, kills people, is a bad influence, poor role model, possible pedophile, possible adulterer. . . yeah, pretty bad. He's saved countless lives, including the all world several times. He'll risk his life without a second though to save people he doesn't even know. Yeah, pretty bad. As for the "possible pedophile, possible adulterer", stop being an idiot.

On the subject of the thread, Wolverine is a man with a bad past and a very dark side, but he constantly tries to improve. He has a lot of excuses to be a vilain but he choosed to be a hero. He choosed to do good. He would sacrifice his life and even his soul for his friends. He'll do bad things, if it ensures good will win and nobody else has to do them. That's very unselfish!
Nobody is harder on Logan than himself, but he's actually a much better person then he thinks he is.

No one is a bad person or a good person.

We all have bad tendencies and good tendencies, and defining moments on both sides of the spectrum. Thanks to his popularity he's gotten more development than dozens of other characters combined and that has allowed him to take many different personas and outlooks on his life, his past, and his ways.

I think he's generally a good person, or tries his best at that, but above all he's without question a hero.

He's not a person. However, he's a great character in part because of some of the bad things he's been portrayed as doing.

No one is a bad person or a good person.

Oh, I think there've pr'y been a few whose bad outweighs the good by a remarkable enough significance you can call them bad people.

The thing with Wolverine is a) a lot of the bad stuff ain't his fault and b) he still defends/rationalizes a lot of the bad instead of owning up.
