poll on the way
i was just feeling nostalgic. so anything M.L.F-related is on topic, here. Who is your favorite member of the M.L.F (and why)? who was the better leader; Stryfe, Reignfire, Moonstar, or other? is it still a viable concept? who should join the team?
note: i left rusty and skids off the poll in part due to space and them being brainwashed.

no love for sumo? idek who he is!
he's part of the original asian contingent. he (Jun Tenta), Kamikaze (aka Samurai), and Dragoness all used to hang out; separate from the rest of the group. Kamikaze lost his head. and Sumo was shot in the head. it's kind of sad because, besides Fat Cobra (and that Rising Suns guy), there aren't too many super sumo around. and i wanted to know more about his powers. wiki says that he could increase his mass and density. i never saw any evidence; just him being big and strong. i wonder if he's any relation to Fred Dukes.

The MLF are long overdue for a momentous return. The X-Men comics are in dire need of better class villians than flu-viruses and Breakworld aliens.
Zero was definitely my favorite - but I've always had a soft spot for others like Tempo, Feral, Reaper, and Forearm. Zero has managed to have my interests from the beginning to the end. From ADAM prototype of tomorrow to an active member of the MLF and Stryfe's personal assistant/computer/library/weapon of today. From activation, to deactivation, to reactivation, to self-desctruction - Zero was just interesting.

Marvel needs to repopulate the 616 with mutants before the MLF makes a proper rentrance to the books. They just don't makea lot of sense if there's nobody to liberate, y'know? Prematurely, we could have Uncanny filled with a 2 dimensional team of terrorists just effing things up becuase the writers need some stock baddies to fight. Tempo deserves better than to be "Chimera'd" back into the X-books.

hate to break it to you but they didn't do a whole lot of "liberating." it's just a fancy name like "Brotherhood of Evil Mutants." they were a loosely organized terror cell. they basically attacked military and private research installations with an anti-mutant bent. not that i'd be against there being more mutants. but don't get caught up in the semantics of the name. the individual members weren't that deep. they were youngsters (relatively) who were basically looking to use their powers in destructive manners with "fighting for mutankind" as an excuse.
ohsnapulon5000
06-02-2011, 08:56 AM
point taken. I think I just wanted there to be more to their actions than there actually was in retrospect. I feel like I remember there being at least the thin veil of pretense that the were actually bringing some mutants amnesty through their actions but yeah...bycnh o' kids wanting to prove a point with their powerz...
Maybe (and this is another investigation into the semantics of the name) Mutant Liberation could stand for the philosophical liberation of Mutant kind, like the Women's Liberation of the 60's etc? A kind of social movement that sweeps a few mutants that eventually leads to more nihilistic exploding of goverment agencies but that is at least more relevant in purpose than it's former incarnation.
I just feel like the X-books are so self referential these days that there is no way that anyone in the 616 would let a agroup with the MLF's name live it out without questioning it's title in accord with it's actions.

I think the MLF could really use a revamp.
a couple times in late X-Force I thought Tempo and Forearm had potential to be heroes or at least good supporting characters. nothing panned out with Tempo. Forearm could have been a good friend to Dani. Dragoness should be around more too. whatever happened to Strobe? last I remember was X-Cutioner's song.

Wildside just psionically alters people's senses. it's like a mutant version of LSD; auditory and visual hallucinations, disorientation, loss of balance, etc. Wildside, himself, is an inhibition free animal.

I love Larry Stroman's art. A lot of people hate his stuff and I can see why but I always appreciated it's quirky feel. Would it be fair to call him the Sienkiewicz of the 90's?
Anyways, I voted Tempo but I liked them all for what they were. I always wanted Tempo to join X-Force back in the day just based on Cable offering her a place on the team that one time. I also really enjoy the X-Factor issues where they fight the MLF, because it showed that Heather really did join the team for the right reasons, and it gave her some development when those cookie cutter villains didn't get any.
The X-men need some straight up crazy terrorist villains to even out the other high minded problems they deal with.
Tempo then Reaper.
I'd like Tempo to reform the MLF, Forearm to join her.
And Reaper... I just want him to come back so Shatterstar can amputate his other limbs.
ohsnapulon5000
10-05-2011, 01:51 PM
i have a feeling that with the way the x-books are going to be spread, there is going to be more of a need for villains to come out of the woodwork. with the ties that the MLF had to the old X-force, I think Remender or PAD could easily re introduce them in either of their books, respectively. Though my money would be on them showing up in X-Factor before UXF.

RIP tempo! Do you think she's dead or just lost somewhere?
Apparently...mike carey has stated repeatedly that her death was indeed "real" and is meant to be interpreted that way. which sounds like a bummer but it also kind of sounds like more misdirecting bull. I mean, why would her death be the only one that stuck after the multiple deaths in AoX?
Ghost rider isn't dead is he? Same for domino, etc...
It sounds like he fed her to Rogue, his stupid baby, and was going to use her for an eventual slow burn side story, and then before he had something to do with her- is exiting the book. another dangling plot line.
my guess is she is part of the new little army Magneto is building against Hope. She'll be around (and better than ever) when the time is right. The girl only shows up for the big crossovers anyhow.

Entirely too many characters from that story line, and that book, have ties to the MLF. plus X-Factor could stand to deal with more mutant centric issues every now and then.

Johnny Dee. why? because the M.L.F have a history of being taken advantage of. Dee is a bonafide creep. he's also not a mutant; just his conjoined twin. but with him as the behind-the-scenes-guy, it allows more focus on the actual MLF'ers.

something i've always wondered about the name controversy. i remember when first reading those X-Factor issues that revealed Hairbag and Slab's real names that Slab's last name was 'Suggs.' i only remember it because i wouldn't have expected Hairbag to have so ordinary a name as 'Anderson.' but, if you read the actual text, the lawyers are referring to them in a way that suggests that Hairbag's last name is 'Anderson' and Slab's is 'Suggs.' does anyone have a scan? that particular issue didn't survive after i left for college.
