I have watched TSSM show straight from the beginning! From Survival Of The Fittest to Final Curtain, this show has been nonstop awesomeness back and forth!

So what do you guys think of the show?

The single best adaptation of Spider-Man outside of the comic books. Great show. I was really disappointed when it wasn't renewed.

I got high hopes for Ultimate Spider-Man though. I think it'll be good

best show so far...in fact the best superhero show of the past decade

even better than the DC ones.

i hope spec sm fanatics would give ult sm a chance

the same chance that spec sm got because from the begining almost everyone hated the design

i defended it not here but in other site that it is the design kids now love.

I thought it was great. Definitely up there as one of the best Spider-Man adaptions (though I'm oddly fond of the 90s show). Spectacular made great use of continuity and characters, and had a great theme song to boot.

It's simply Marvel's answer to B:TAS.It was that good.

Great show. If the animation had been better, would have seriously challenged Batman TAS as best superhero cartoon ever.

I think the show was great because of Weisman. He's really smart at updating the material and interpreting it. Even better than Bendis is with the Ultimate Spider-Man comic IMHO, which is really good in it's own right. Weisman's still doing his thing with Young Justice which is turning out to be an epic cartoon.

I could go for more realistic character designs, but the simple designs animated really well and gave us some kick ass fight scenes so it's hard to hate. Best Spidey cartoon ever.

I'm pretty excited about the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. Don't know if it will be better but from what I've seen and heard I think it will be a great show in it's own right.

The animation already is pretty damn great. It was fast and fluid, like a Spider-Man show should be. Much like Timm's DC series, this show used simplified, stylized designs to produce great animation.

What didn't you like about the animation?

IMO the best superhero cartoon of all time. It's been a while now so I cant recall specifics, but I remember thinking at the time that it even improved on the comics in some aspects.

yup that good...

in a way you could argue there are things that spec sm did that is even better than batman:TAS

spec sm had character growth and development(esp on the supporting cast like Flash)...against batman TAS

spec sm had humor, romance and drama...

spec sm was continuing story over reaching season arc while B:TAS was episodic and more often feature villian of the week flavor.

I don't really think that makes one better over the other. More about personal flavor. As long as what its successful at what its trying to do and is written well, the format shouldn't matter too much.

Disappointed by the options in this poll. "One of the best Spider-Man shows ever" doesn't do it justice. It is the best Spider-Man show, period. It is the best Spider-Man adaptation period. It hugely improved upon the comics in many significant ways.

Steve Ditko's run aside, Spectacular Spider-Man is better than the comics.

I agree with what you say...but you don't have to be disappointed by the options...:frown:

This show was too good fo TV! it was rivaling BTAS as the best superhero adaption EVER. If it got renewed there's a good possibility it may have surpassed it.

Things were often set up early in the show and we'd often see villains well before they costume up. Storylines were set up early as well...Ned Lee(ds) got an assignment of a (Green) Goblin expose in season one, Roderick Kingsley is in season 2 trying to be a player in the New York underworld, we know Hobgoblin was to be in season 3 and we ALL know where that will lead.

One thing I really have to give the show credit for is making the cast diverse without it seeming forced. Never once did anyone seem like the token "insert race here".

This show has raised a high bar...

Only in those annoying "soccer mom" releases. Sony may release the second season on DVD next year to cash-in the movie reboot, though.

I think that the current Avengers cartoon is the best of the decade, certainly off to a great start anyway. I dunno, I just couldn't get into this incarnation of Spidey. I just prefer the 90's series but I'm probably nostalgia biased. I still wish they would put the 90's animated series in a definitive collection or in sets. It was a really strong show and as far as I'm concerned, Chris Daniel Barnes is THE voice of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. He really captured the character's voice for me.

I think had Spectacular SM started airing in the US instead of Canada, it would've gotten more publicity, more views and not been cancelled. I agree that Avengers: EMH is off to a great start.

Spectacular had very strong ratings, even in USA reruns. The show was cancelled because Disney wanted to do its own show, rather than follow up one they didn't know.

Not really, but it's different factors. The iconicness of Bats vs. the personalness of Spidey, Timm and company reinventing action animation, a ton more risk taking, a less cartoony and mostly superior voice cast... and again, not that SSM was bad in any way, just it's like trying to compare... oh, let's say any modern comedy cartoon vs. classic WB animation.

Although I think I also like Avengers better than Spidey, but it's not so much better or worse, more Avengers was more a balls-out crazy show vs. Spidey's more tight focus on character development.

There may have been another issue -- I believe the toys didn't sell. That was a problem with the show -- I loved the character designs for the show, but they looked like crap when translated into toy form. Which is something I discussed with a guy who worked on the show, actually. Although there are no toys for Avengers. Which is weird.

The show tanked because of legal issues: Sony had the rights to Spider-Man and when Disney bought Marvel, Disney took all the rights, leading to a legal battle and the end of this show. [Sigh] Yet another casuality of the Disney/Marvel partnership. DAMN THEM THEY CANCELLED MY FAVORITE SHOW!!!

I loved it. Although I prefer the 90s show (maybe it's the nostalgia factor), I think Spectacular does the best job of evoking the earliest Spider-Man comics, whilst at the same time adapting for a modern audience.
