View Full Version : Assembling long boxes

Okay, so I got a few long boxes because I need to finally commit to the long overdue organizing of my comic book collection.

The only trouble is, the boxes are 'assembly required' bits of cardboard, and I don't know how to put them together. I looked at them all over, and couldn't figure it out.

Can anyone help me?

Yeah, I don't know how to tell you this, but there's this thing called tape. Among other things, it helps humans patch cardboard into usable material.

The level of arrogance in this post is matched only by the level of incorrect information.

To the OP, the lid will have to be removed first. Then to assemble the lid fold the two long ends down first, the little tabs in, and then fold the short ends around them.

To assemble the box first break the tabs holding the flaps. Then open it into a box shape. Fold one end in with the flap tucked against it and tuck the entire thing up against the inside of the box, then fold the other side in and allow the flap to butt up against the handle of the box. Let the first side down and do the same with the flap.

Except if its the type of long boxes I'm thinking about , they don't need tape. They are the fold and put togethor long boxes.

Trial and error.

I fold boxes for a living (well, i do other stuff too...) and with just a bit of practice, you'll be able to do it in your sleep.

What Dupont said, but I personally have always had trouble getting them to fold down as nice and neat as they look in comics shops. I always have trouble folding anything, though, if I wrap a present it looks like I scrunched paper around it.

Here's a helpful video that shows how to put them together.

Where do you even see longboxes put together with tape? The only ones I've ever seen with tape on them are the fold together type that have been repaired with tape. Do you actually read comics, Dr. Shouts?

Yeah after I fold mine together the inside bottom flat does not sit right. After having it loaded with comics for about a year they seem much more square though.

Thanks for the helpful video. It's just what I needed.

Call me arrogant if you want, but I've never had any trouble folding a cardboard box. If necessary, there's always tape. It doesn't matter if it's a longbox or not. Folding cardboard isn't rocket science.

Do I read comics? shawnh, I've been reading comics long before you existed.

I've seen people in a comic book shop who have worked there for years have trouble with the cardboard boxes and how they fold. Sure its not rocket science , but they can be agravating.

Hey, no offense to anyone. I'm just saying it's not that hard, SUPERECWFAN1. I worked at Papa John's pizza and there were people there who had been around for months and had trouble folding a pizza box. Cardboard never gave me difficulty. But that's just me.

At 35 I'm pretty sure that I'm older than you, so that's a neat trick.

I didn't call you arrogant. Someone else did because you decided to be an asshole instead of helpful.

And this most recent post just further reveals that you don't know what a comic book longbox is or how it works. If you see how they work you'll understand that there should never be a need for tape on them. There are these little tab thingies. It's not the same as a box from the grocery store.

If you don't mean offense to anyone, stop being a dick and stop starting fights about pointless shit.

I never encountered your posts before February of this year. Before February of this year, I never knew your existed. Thus, I've been reading comics before you existed.

Secondly, I do know how longboxes are assembled. If need be, there's always tape. If you can't work the tabs, then work the tape. Longboxes don't need to look perfect if they're for personal use. As long as it works nicely then who cares if it's tabs or tape?

Lastly, my post is no more arrogant than any of the regular posters here. Michael P, Slam Bradley, Jeff Brady, Paul McEnery, and many others are more arrogant, and I never hear a peep outta you. So quit trying to single me out and make me look bad.

Ah, solipsism taken to an egomaniacal extreme.

Damn right I'm arrogant. I have more posts than you.

Nice to see that everyone can get along, even on such a controversial subject as long comic box assembly.
