lol at Squirrel Girl.
As for who'd join the new avengers for the first time.
Errm..X23 ?
I'll say Daredevil.
Who better to help out in Fear Itself than the Man Without Fear.

It's Daredevil.
Bendis missed his first chance at writing Daredevil into the Avengers back with the relaunch, and Daredevil fits the criteria of a popular hero that never joined the Avengers.

Monica Rambeau, please.
Monica Rambeau, please.
I'd rather have Monica join the adjectiveless Avengers myself. The need the ladies more.
But I'd take either.

Door Man or whatever his name is.
That guy from Great Lakes Avengers.
Lyra, the Savage She Hulk.
A wild guess based on nothing.
Isn't she with the defenders?
Personally I got nothing.

General Ross' secretary?

I'd love to see Monica on an Avengers team too, but she doesn't fit the bill of "for the first time". She led the team back in the early '80s for about 4 years I want to say (even became a running joke during the "Nextwave" series). I don't think it'll be Daredevil either, he's pretty fresh off trying to kill them all and take over NY in Shadowland plus Mark Waid probably has something planned coming up so they probably won't want to pull the rug out from under him (unless it's part of his plan).
If'n I had my way, I'd choose either Storm (joining with her husband naturally) or Songbird. You might say she's already joined, in the future in "Avengers Forever" but this would be her joining in the comics for the first time. And while they've been trying to turn back the clock and make her more "edgy" in T-Bolts it hasn't really felt right.

This could be playing sematics... but it technically doesn't say Avenger for the first time ever. It says NEW Avenger for the first time ever.
Depending on how literally we want to take it, that could open the door up to really almost any classic Avenger.

Killraven is also possible. Bendis might've brought him back for a reason.

I hope it's Black Panther or Winter Soldier. I'd be down with it being DD if if it's written well.

Course, Shadowland might have changed DD's view a bit.
Maybe from that experience he'll see that having friends and allies to he can rely on is a good thing.

The DD i know would have Shadowland polarize him more from his friends imo. But, it could go either way depending on who writes it.

Mark Waid already teased in an interview (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=31330) that he "wouldn't be surprised to see Matt working with (or being drafted into?) one of the existing Marvel teams before long."
So, yeah. It's probably Daredevil.

If he's being "drafted" into a team (and I assume he's lot literally being drafted), then yeah I would have to assume it's an Avengers team. Probably to keep an eye on him, given how he acted last time around.
Cage, Iron Fist and Spidey were among the guys that helped to take DD down so NA would sort of make sense.
Though he'd fit pretty nicely in Heroes for Hire too.

If it's Daredevil, the New Avengers will look like the old Marvel Knights team with all the street vigilantes in it. Spidey, Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Doctor Strange.

When has that ever stopped Bendis?
All kidding aside, Daredevil has more serious reasons than just not being a team player for not joining a team. He has stated plenty of times in the past that big crowds scenes confuse his enhanced senses, reducing his efficiency. But, hey, that probably won't stop him from hanging around the table stuffing himself of food and talking trash.

Clearly you're unfamiliar what a Bendis comic is, otherwise you'd know what a festering sore is.
Either that or you're unused to either adjectives or analogies.

Squirrel Girl is an amazing character. They should write her into a major Avengers title. I think she would be a great character in Secret Avengers. For what is more stealthy than a pack of ravenous squirrels? She is an effective power too, considering she's beaten the shit out of Doctor Doom.
But it's too bad that she was a member of the Great Lakes Avengers. Daredevil is a retarded choice though. Guy gets possessed by demons and joins the Avengers? I don't think that is very proper. No, it should be Squirrel Girl! IT SHOULD BE SQUIRREL GIRL!

There's nothing less funny than comic book nerds taking joke characters too far, and not knowing when it's played out....

I am sure it will be Daredevil. I have hated just about every character Bendis has added to the Avengers with the exception of Spiderman who really was a member previously, just not a mainstay. Spiderwoman wasn't bad either but I generally prefer the Julia Carpenter version of that character to Jessica Drew.

I respectfully disagree.
New things don't always equal good things imo. Although Bendis writes Daredevil very well i don't see him adding to the dynamic of this already stacked team. Also, i can't see DD taking orders from Luke Cage.

If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. We have a tiny blip in the long history of the character.
If it does work, we get some interesting new stories out of a character who's been pretty stale for quite awhile. I have a feeling this is what Marvel will be thinking.

Daredevil was never stale during Bendis's and Brubaker's pens. Even the lead-up to Shadowland by Diggle was done pretty well. Shadowland started great and then fizzled. I think 'quite awhile' may mean different things to us.

It could be Daredevil. Especially when you consider that Ronin was originally supposed to be Daredevil but with so many readers guessing correctly at the time what Bendis was planning and ruining his secret plans, he decided to make Ronin, Echo instead, thinking that readers would never have thought of her, with her been so less well known than DD.

It would be cool to see someone that hasn't been in the Avengers before, that is why I like Bendis' run. He has been able to use characters you wouldn't think would work on the team and make it work.

What a witty rejoinder.
I am humbled.
Who do you think the New Avenger will be?
Ken Ashcroft
04-13-2011, 04:30 PM
I think it will be Johnny Storm. There was an issue of I am a Avenger recently where, Johnny is shown to be depressed after learning that the Thing was asked to join the New Avengers and he was wondering why he had never been asked to join even though all the other 3 members of the FF had been made Avengers at one point or another. Seems like a big clue there though I admit its probably a longshot considering he just died. Maybe he will carry on a New Avengers tradition and come back in disguise as the new Ronin.

Daredevil would be cool. Panther or Monica would be cool too, and if I was betting I would put my money on one of those three.
If it were me choosing though, it would be She-Hulk. Preferably Walters but Lyra would be fine. I like what I've seen of her.

Songbird, maybe?
That would be a good choice.
A nouveau female would round out the team, especially if Mockingbird falls from the nest. Keeping with the bird theme and all;)
I'd like to see a female character with shorter hair for a change, perhaps another mutant. Who do I think he's going to pick? Daredevil seems too easy.
How about who I'd like to see: Jean Grey, Rachel Summers, Elektra, M. (Any of the X-Factor heroines), Moonstone, Dagger, Magik, Namora, Psylocke, Valkyrie, Scarlet Witch, Ana Kravinoff.

Daredevil or Moon Knight.
I'd like a recently/trying to reform villain. Rhino, Absorbing Man or Sandman could be interesting additions.
