Activision and Marvel Entertainment have announced "Spider-Man: Edge of Time," a new game in which players will take on the persona of Peter Parker's alter ego and his 2099 counterpart.

With all the attention Miguel is getting in the games recently surely it's time to cash in and bring out a new comic.

Nice, PAD back in the 2099 universe and there's no Brian Reed mess in sight. All is good for some of us Spidey fans. :redface:

Why does it need to be some universe or time altering crisis for Spidey? Why not write a good Spidey-level story for a game and go with it?

Yeah, as fun as SM:SD was, it was annoyingly buggy.

Might be because they've done all that before. It's time to do something cool with PAD! They have my money. :D

Because it's been done. Sometimes you have to think outside the box.

i pray that its back to the sandbox style, so we can see city changes and environment changes (ie. Spidey get the Bugle building blown up or something, into 2099 there a very stylized DB building standing in its place)

Honestly, it's been a while since it's really been done. Web of Shadows, I guess, but that had the whole symbiote thing going on, wasn't really a pure Spidey game. That hasn't really been done since... what, Ultimate? And if you really want to get nitpicky, it really REALLY hasn't been done since Playstation. Everything since has been either movie games, Ultimate, or laden with some kind of gimmick that really isn't core to the character.

It's a matter of how you use them.For example,i didn't have a problem using them in PSX Spiderman game because that game felt like an old school Spidey tale.But later we had Ultimate Spiderman,Spiderman 3 and Web Of Shadows.Just give symbiote gimmick a rest.

So is the Spider-Mobile. Doesn't mean it has to be part of the gameplay mechanic. Throw Venom in the game if you want, but the last five Spider-Man games have all involved significant symbiote wackiness, dating back to Ultimate. Hell, even Friend or Foe had a segment of it.

Well, FoF consisted of all of Spidey's foes right? Or most of them being your friend. :tongue:

The Spider-Mobile, though, is lame. So it wouldn't be in any game anyways.

Truthfully, Spider-Man 3 is a movie video game. So, I wouldn't count that too much, IMO.

I'm struggling to think of a Spidey game which DIDN'T have symbiotes as opponents/costumes/rewards.

Spider-Man 2 the movie is the only thing that comes to mind.

Details from the live feed of the panel:

*Josh Keaton will voice Peter Parker/Amazing Spider-Man. He also confirmed that Christopher Daniel Barnes will play Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099.

*Peter David will write the story. He worked very closely with Beenox to create a character-driven, emotional and involving story. Both Spideys start out with some tension at the beginning.

*The only new story detail discussed was the fact that an unnamed scientist from 2099 will cause the death of Amazing Spider-Man. Also, this game is NOT a sequel from Shattered Dimensions. Nothing else was discussed due to spoiler potential.

*Several gameplay elements from Shattered Dimensions will be kept, but will also be upgraded and tweaked. Some of the new gameplay improvements include an evasive-focused combat for Amazing, and "ghost"-like abilities for 2099, such as being able to use decoys of himself.

*Apparently, work was already given on this game before Shattered Dimensions was shipped.

*Videos in the panel included a re-cap on Shattered Dimensions, a video intro of Josh Keaton and his voice work, and the first look trailer at Edge of Time, which should make it's way online sometime soon.
