I just got my cat three weeks ago, I named him Abe (no prizes for guessing whom he's named after) :)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/King_Vold/abe.jpg

You can sorta tell from this picture, but he's had his tail amputated. Apparently when he came into the shelter he had a wound from a fight that was all infected so the tail had to go. He's much better now, and we've hit it off really well.

That's Loki behaviour, all right.

My favorite is when he walks across the top of your pillow stepping on your hair and pulling it - there's no way you can sleep through that. (or of course, just plain stepping on your face)

Also a fairly effective trick is jumping up on the dresser or the desk and pushing stuff off till you have to yell at him to cut it out - game over - he KNOWS you're awake now.

What a monster!

I can't even imagine losing our puppy and we've only had her for 3 years. I'm so sorry to hear about this.

This is my wife Willow and our "baby" Grace. We gave out candies to lots of little ones this year.

Pathetic looking Fat Pug. She was giving me her "crying face" because I wouldn't share my cookie (it had chocolate in it!)

Samantha once more trying to make me feel guilty. She is betrayed by the wagging tail though.

Extreme close up of B-Mail (Bentley) or as I like to call him Boobzilla. He's a huge beat of a cat yet he's terrified of everything. Really. He's the size of a small mountain lion.

Wow, what cool pet pals are to be seen here, people.
As cool pets make cool friends and vice-versa. (YES! an inversive sentence in only my 51st post already  ) Sorry. But I need to state here that Mr. Bellygrub's pic of one 'guilty Samantha' has altered my viewpoint on uhm receding-nosed-dogs for good. Which is quite a thing really  .

My sympathy you have, Morna and Gary. Even to a stranger Loki seems a fine companion indeed.
I can be mushy when it comes to cat friends, like they're part of some party of particular souls, choosing at times to mingle among and look in on the mortal world. To feel able to bond or connect with them has been special for me always. And I have come to feel that favoring these friendships may have lead to being sought out even more often. Hoping this to uplift you somewhat.
On here is a guy I remember favorably:

42619

He took pleasure in crossing chess boards or fields of Playmobil without ever knocking anything over, a skill which he displayed fondly and regularly. The way your Loki looks on in the second pic, with the apt tailpositioning thing causes to reminisce - a look of condonement in general contentness 'though with making a point of failing to see a particular point: 'Well look at you, having fun with your photo hobby? Why not chase something? Sleep? No lets dine!..'
My portrayed cat friend - officially named Tijger but mostly greeted as hey pal - often condoned as well, or made points of failing to see points. when he didn't approve he winked (Sjeesh what insanity) or sighed audibly.
Again: this to hopefully uplift you somewhat.

Thanks for the sympathies folks. It's been a rough day and a bit.

Loke was with us nine years and it was estimated that he was one when we Gary brought him home. Strangely our previous cat Emo-Bah was nine when he died. Odd little co-incidence.

We had nine really good years together and I thought we'd have a bunch more. He seemed so healthy and vibrant. I guess the little live wire just burned out. It was a quick but nasty end as if his heart exploded in his chest. The powerlessness of having the event carry itself on without any heed of my protests. Poor little guy he was terrified and clearly in great pain for the thirty seconds of his end. The suddenness of it has been staggering. ... sigh.

He knows we love him.

Thanks again for the kind words. We still miss him very much, he was a constant presence in our home and what you might call an "in your face" cat. I'm having some problems with a woman at work who knows that we lost Loki and wants us to adopt a cat from people she knows who are moving. She has poor English skills and I'm having a hard time getting her to understand that we want to honour the memory of our beloved little guy. We will likely bring another cat into our lives some day but for now we just want to remember Loki.

Pain in the butt cat, he is a 100% attention whore, you can push him off he comes back for more.

This big guy is Crown, or was. He recently passed on. Poor boy's displasia got bad and affected his whole quality of life. He had a fantastic life as a bus yard dog with a huge "pack" of humans to protect. He was a great great dog.

Here are the 2 lil bastids that are the bane of my existence. The grey one is Jack (7) & the tabby is Dana (9).

N

http://members.aol.com/bigdaddyschwinn/jd

Shortly after I got home from work today Dana passed away. Nobody on the board ever got to meet her, but she was one of the sweetest cats I've ever had. Over the last couple of weeks she started to become lethargic and wasn't eating or drinking as much and so I took her to the vet yesterday. After running bloodwork they told me her liver was failing and that she was anemic. I left her there overnight so they could put her on an IV and hopefully rehydrate her. This morning the vet called me at work to say that her condition was worsening and that other than a total blood transfusion, there wasn't anything to be done. I left work after the call to pick her up because if she was going to die I wanted her to be at home and not in unfamiliar surrounding. After we got home I stayed with her for about an hour & then had to go back to work. We're nearing the end of the month so of course everything is busier and I had to stay later than usual. When I got home I found Dana curled up behind the couch and when I called her name she cried. I picked her up and held her and she nuzzled my neck. I took her into the kitchen because I thought she might need water. Then she just went. It didn't last long and I don't think she was in much pain. I'm just thankful that I was able to be there and pet and tell her it was ok.

I don't know why I'm posting this here, but I just had to type it out. Ya'll are some of the most kind, compassioante & funny people I've ever met and I want to thank you for all the fond memories I have over the years.

And now I'm down to one lil bastid...

Sorry to hear about your cat :frown: . I totaly understand. I lost my two black cats within a month of each other. The boy was what I was told is a ragdoll cat which is long wheel base and very well tempered, I had him for 6 years and lost him to the neighbors dogs. The female was a scrapper and I seriously had to take her to the vet 3 times with copperhead bites! She would not leave them alone. Needless to say the copperheads won in the end.I got her the same day under different circumstances. I miss them both and still have the daughter of the two she is a gray cat named Sassy.

Nick, I really feel for you. Had to go through a similar situation with one of our cats, he died in me and my wife's arms. It's tough to even type it out 4 years later.

We were able to move on though and got a very sweet dog who was a rescue from the Humane Society. Though she desperately wanted to play with our other cat who is 11, the cat wasn't interested and was quite grumpy about it.

So finally (just a couple of weeks ago) we got a little brother for our pup (who is now 4). They are like playmates, Sis and brother, best friends, Mother and son, and conspirators in trouble.

Guess I'm saying that I know how much it hurts and that may never go away, but you'll have a chance to make a difference in more animal's lives.

I've only once posted in this thread before but hope maybe this might bring a smile and glimmer of hope.

Thank you guys. Today started of pretty tough since I had to take her back to the vet so she could be cremated. But things like this make you realize just how many people care about you. The support I've gotten from friends & the coworkers that I shared the news with has been unreal.

Morna... you, Gary & Loki were very much in my thoughts while I was writing my post last night. This is a really shitty club to be a part of. When you see them everyday, you start to take for granted that they're aren't going to be around forever. Then when they're gone, it just breaks your heart.

Shonokin, thanks for posting that. The picture makes me smile. I have a feeling though it'll be a while before I bring another one home.

Everybody else, thank you again for all the kind words.
