Howdy. Some of you may remember me posting about this game months ago when I first joined this board. I'm laboring along on it slowly because I just don't have time to play it much. And I keep getting stuck in the dumbest places.

Ok, I'm at the Hippo Lagoon in The Jungle. I've gotten to the Vines part. Is there any way I can just skip the vines? Is there a secret way I don't know about? I get across some of them but I keep getting stuck because there's a part where I miss the vines and I keep falling into the pond. It's driving me crazy. I just don't have the patience to keep jumping those damn vines!. Grrrrrrr......

I know, this game is made for like eight year olds and my 30 year old brain can't handle some stupid vine swinging. *sigh*

Help!

*smooches*

It's just horrible but you have to do it.

Look around but, cause I spent ages stuck on the vines, and then I found a platform or another vine I hadn't seen before and it got really easy.

well, easier.

Wait for the barrells at the colleseum and then the alladin level.

I can only play the game in short bursts.

I found a "hint" in my strategy guide for the Vine part but unfortunately, I read it after I got too far into the Jungle part. At the beginning when you first meet Tarzan, if you climb down some stairs to the side of the net you fall on instead of just jumping and falling with Tarzan, you can go through the Jungle Tunnels instead of dealing with the vines. When I read that, I was at the Hippo Lagoon so it's too late. DAMMIT!!! That's why I was asking if anyone knew of any other hints like that since I missed my chance to avoid the vines the first time. (dammit again!)

Oh, and I hit the Collaseum already with the barrel challenges. JESUS. I wanted to rip my hair out when I was doing those. You're right dude, those barrel challenges were absolutely painful. I had to do the second one over and over and over again because I kid you not, I'd get to the very last barrel and then my time would run out. AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!

Video games are their own kind of pain aren't they? It's like a weird form of S&M that we keep subjecting ourselves to. Hmmm...let me see, I've been playing this damn game for three hours and I still can't get past this part....Oooo, I know!...I'll keep torturing myself and play it another hour!!!

LOL.

OK it sounds like we're in about the same place in the game.

I JUST beat the barrels yesterday. On the barrels, it's easier if you lock onto a barrel. As you approach a set of them, press the R1 button to lock on -- that way you're swinging at them and only them. Also, the first few times you do it, just go straight to that one that you have to jump to get to -- practice getting to that, and once you have that down, you can do it. I had to try maybe 25 times before I finally finished with only a second to go. It's a pain.

If you finish the barrels, you will have a chance to enter the "games." You can pretty easily beat most of the people you meet there, except one blond-headed dude at the end. I lost to him, but when I lost, I didn't die -- it proceeded into this scene with Hades and then the appearance of the three-headed beast. You can choose whether or not you want to fight the three-headed beast. Do NOT fight that thing unless you've gotten the power of cure!! (You get the power of cure by beating Clayton in the Deep Jungle, and it sounds like you aren't that far.)

The vines: I haven't been to the Deep Jungle in a few days, but the last time I was there, I discovered that place you're talking about where you can go a different way from the tunnel to get beyond the vines. I will take a look at it today and post about it, cause I don't remember it exactly, but I remember thinking -- man, that's a lot easier than those stupid hippo backs!! Also, I assume that, after you do the hippo lagoon and climb up that one vine there, you are going straight to the blue vine and climbing up that? Don't waste time swinging -- it only gets you one or two treasure chests. I did it once, got the treasure chest, and never went back.

OK -- I'm going to play a little and come back. So glad I found someone else playing this game. It's a bear!!

Alright I just played and went to the Deep Jungle -- here's how to get to the treetops without having to jump on the hippos:

Go to the save menu and board the gummi ship. Choose to go to Deep Jungle. Choose the Jungle Tunnel. When you get to the tunnel, DON'T go down the slide. Instead, jump up on the little pedestal of grass, then up to the next one. Go through that door, and you're at the treetops! From there you can access the tree house. The only other way to get there is via those stupid hippos, so I use this way instead now.

Another thing you get if you defeat the barrels is the power of thunder. I assume you already have fire and blizzard? If you get all three, you can go to Traverse Town and unlock the door with the fire symbol that is in District 3. You unlock it by shooting fire at it. Therein lies a house with some magical people in it!!

Well, Nikita -- if you have any other questions let me know. I got kind of stuck like you, then I went online to find a few hints, and it's helped a lot, but I'm still feeling like I am clueless!!

Anybody know how to lock the worlds? I am told (via online hints) that I have to lock the worlds before I can really move on, and I have no clue how to do that. Also, how do I get access to the synthesis shop and the tunnel that's blocked by bars in the alleyway channel?

Most worlds when you finish them get locked automatically, in a cut scene.

Tarzan does from memory.

Colleseum doesn't cause you have to go back later.

And I hope to god Wonderland did cause it took me a long while to figure out how to beat those cards to the point that I never wanna go back.

(That said, I bet we're like the video game impaired. goddamn 14 yr olds probably flew through this crap).

Keyholes:

Traverse Town: After you come back from Wonderland, go to the top of the gizmo shop and ring the bell three times. Fight the monster. The keyhole is sealed in a cut scene.

Wonderland: After fighting the boss monster in the Bizarre Room, Sora seals the keyhole in a cutscene. This is the first keyhole sealed in the game.

Deep Jungle: After defeating Clayton, the gorillas throw you up to a new area. Climb all the way to the top of the waterfall and enter the chamber beyond to trigger the keyhole closing scene.

Colisseum: After gaining the Yellow Trinity ability (finish the Hercules Cup), trigger the trinity mark next to the block Phil was trying to move when you first met him. The block will move and reveal the keyhole.

Agrabah: Defeat Genie Jafar. Sora will seal the keyhole at the end of the cut scene.

Monstro: There is no keyhole in Monstro.

Atlantica: Defeat Ursula. Watch the cutscene.

Halloween Town: Defeat Oogie's Manor. Watch the cutscene.

Neverland: Defeat Captain Hook. After the cutscene, you'll be in London, at Big Ben. Whack the clock face that's off the correct time until it matches the others. The keyhole will reveal itself.

Hollow Bastion: Defeat the Behemoth on your second trip to Hollow Bastion. Watch the cutscene.

Hundred Acre Wood: Obtain all the Torn Pages, visit every area, and play every mini-game at least once. Watch the cutscene.

The synthesis shop will open once you've completed a certain portion of the game. Keep coming back to Traverse Town and checking it out.

The tunnel can (and, at a certain point, must) be entered by using the proper Trinity ability.

I didn't even look at this thread before playing yesterday, and believe it or not I locked three worlds without knowing wtf I was doing. Like you said -- it's basically what happens when you finish that world, for the most part.

I looked at your spoilers, but only read up to Agrabah, cause that's where I am now. I'm wandering around like a lost idiot with Aladdin, supposedly looking for Jasmine but unable to go anywhere but Main Street, Alleyway and the first courtyard where you enter. Oh and the desert, but there seems to be nothing there. And all the doors are blocked by stupid boxes and junk, so I have to hop around everywhere. Stupid game. I hate it I swear it's so stupid.

OK, truth is I love it. I'm having trouble working today because I just want to go home and play.

I haven't been able to get into the synthesis shop yet, but I got in that daggone underground cavern. I got the Pooh book, warp drive and the Jungle King key. And I also have the summon spell for Simba, but haven't used him -- keep forgetting he's there!! :)

You gotta get up on the covers over the markets.

Once there you can jump through windows that let you into other areas.

And thats when it gets really annoying.

I found that the first time through (any time after that though was fine). If this game was is indeed meant to be for kids, and not people my age, then it is far too hard on the 'normal' level. I tried 'Hard' but it actually found it too hard. Got about half way through.

I have jumped up there and found doors, but haven't tried windows. Guess I need to look around more. Thanks for the tip!

and another thing you guys should know -- I'm a Disney FREAK. I post on Disney message boards almost as much as I post on comics message boards. I also love video games. So when they made this game, putting all the Disney characters and FF character in it (not Fantastic Four - I mean Final Fantasy), it's like they were making it for me. LOVE IT!

I just gave my sister my copy of Kingdom Hearts to play, and I was helping her out with some parts when I was home last weekend.

For the barrel challenge, so you don't have to break every group of barrels individually, make sure you have Combo Plus equipped. line yourself up so that a barrel is directly behind another barrel, but a distance off. when you finish up the combo attack, you won't destroy the barrel immediately, it will launch forward, knocking into the other barrel, and breaking it instantly. This can save you a few precious seconds in a couple different places, and works especially well to break that last barrel.

I found that last boss , Ansem pretty easy actually after all the other hard bosses u had to face , i had the hardest time against the dragon.

The hardest opponent in the game is probably the platinum cup against Sephiroth . He kicked my butt hard.

Keep putting Sora to do the Hades cup solo till his strenght and defense levels are 50 or above. Then, with 2 MP Rage, Arcanum combo, and swords like Oblivion or higher, you can defeat Sephirot.

Now, as for the Spectre at the the clock-tower (optional boss)... that's the hardest opponent I've faced in this game. Even though I know how to beat him, I just can't

Ah ha! The Gummie Ship! I forgot about that. I was thinking, how the hell can I go back to the beginning of the Deep Jungle part since I'm already at the vines? I'll try that. THANKYOU!!!

Oh, and I've been cheating a little bit with this game. My brother got "Code Breaker" so that we could enter a few cheat codes. (he plays much harder games then me though and he's just naturally good at games) I only try one or two cheat codes at a time with Kingdom Hearts because I do want some kind of challenge. But the game can get so frustrating that I HAD to eventually try a cheat code as I got farther along just because there is SO much stuff you have to find in this game and it takes SO long.

I try to play it without cheat codes but sometimes, I give in because it takes HOURS to get through the littlest parts sometimes. I'll give Sora cheat code for infinite life just so that I can "learn" to fight better without getting clobbere right away.

Does anyone know how to protect Donald better? (without having to use cheat codes) His life gets eaten up so fast because he's so vunerable compared to Sora and Goofy. That's one of the reasons I started to use a cheat code for them because Donald gets his ass kicked no matter how I try to change his "ability" thingy in the "ability" chart thing.

I love this game but it is slowly killing me. MOZART!!!!! LOL.

As far as protecting Donald better, I never really found a way to do it. The only thing I could do is load Goofy up with potions and he'd automatically start healing Donald when his HP got too low. When you have several slots in Goofy's items, it really helps out.

Also, there's some kind of ability that Goofy gets at some point in the game (forgive me, it's been a long time since I played it) where he'll give another party member (Donald if you don't really use your magic) some of his MP when it runs low. If I remember right, Goofy sacrifices 1 MP to give someone else 3. Since Goofy doesn't use magic much, Donald's magic lasts MUCH longer. With Goofy also attacking most of the time his MP will charge up pretty quickly, so you can go quite a while without worrying about Donald being useless. The main thing is to keep most of Goofy's abilities that require MP off.

I hope this helps you at least a little bit.

The first time I came to the vines, I had NO trouble. I acctually stumbled upon the trick by accident. Use your target lock. You'll never miss the next vine when you get close to it.(Unless you're dumb and press the button in the middle of a swing. Then you just deserve to fall into a hippo's ass. :D )

That's weird. I tried it again and it still works. I even swing back the other way and I still won't fall. I must have some special edition of the game that was intended for handicapped players or something.

Did you use the auto-targeting system, then just scroll as you swing?

I don't know why you're obsessed over this area. Only thing it has is one chest and the time trial (which I never do. They're boring.) and the chest is easier to reach from the other end of the course( You can climb up the other vine that's at the entrance to the camp site from the hippos.) It's also easier and shorter to jump over the hippos (IMHO).

But here goes.

Start: get near 1st vine to get option to grab it. grab. Keep selecting option to swing until you get to the other side.

Turn around and swing back to the point where the vine you are still on swings near a platform. When the vine swings close to it, press the jump button and angle the controller towards the platform. Enter Vines 2.

Vines2: You need to run and jump, you'll automatically grab the vine. swing to the platform. Run and jump again to reach the next bunch of vines that continue in a new direction. At one point you may need to swing back to a previous vine to pick up enough momentum to carry forward to get the option on the menu to grab a new vine. Don't wait too long or you'll fall off.

Once you reach another platform you should grab the chest. To get to the save point, you need to run and jump again. This is the hardest part IMHO because you need to jump at the last second.

That's it. I did it two days ago, so if you need to know anything else, let me know while it's still fresh in my mind. I really hate this game. ;)

Dammit, I played for ages the other day, but I'm still stuck i the cave of wonders!!!
I've hit all of the gems in the underground bit and gotten to every part visible in the map (except for one chest in the bottomless pit - not the one on the far side, but the one in the middle) - oh, and there's some cave/door things in the underground bit that are well too high to get to.

I'm thinking I need the yellow trinity, but where do I get this???

I've locked the Jungle, Wonderland, done the first actual tortament at the colleseum (that being the training one and then the phil cup or whatever), locked Traverse town, and helped pooh get honey....

What else has a guy gotta do???

You have to go down in the water in the bottom, and there's a room that I think is either called the hidden room or the dark room or something. Anyway, there's a big column in there that you have to hit with magic and make it shorter. It's a big column that you can lock onto. Don't ask me why this is important, but it triggers a cut scene. After that, you just need to get the treasures in the Treasure Room (if you haven't already found a way to get them), then proceed to the Lamp Chamber to fight Jafar.

I don't know why the column is important, but I was helping my daughter play -- and she was stuck just like you. I couldn't remember everything I did when I beat this world, but finally I remembered the column. That's all it took. Everything worked after that.

You ARE hitting the X button, right? Not the O. To jump from vine to vine, you should only hit the X button. Then you shouldn't fall.

Anyway ... as for Donald ... I use him as little as possible. Whenever I'm in another world, I replace him every time!!

OK HELP!!!

1) How do I return the torn pages to Pooh's book? I have five torn pages in my possession. Every time I go into the book, I can only go to the meadow, Pooh's house, and the honey tree. Am I supposed to do something in the honey tree? I've tried hitting the hives and jumping around but nothing seems to happen.

2) There are treasures in the Tea Party Garden in Wonderland that are up on top of the bushes and on a balcony of the little house. I cannot jump that high even with my high jump ability and glide. How do I get to those?

3) I looked at a "cheat list" of where Dalmations are, and there are three dalmations located "in a treasure chest in the graveyard that appears after you defeat Oogie." I have defeated Oogie, yet searched all over the graveyard and never found it. Anyone know where this chest might be? Is it a hidden chest that you have to find behind a gravestone or something?

4) How do you beat Hercules???? The only way I seem to hurt him is to try to hit barrels toward him. Is that really the key to it? It takes forever!! And half the time I destroy the barrels instead of hurling them. Is there a secret to making barrels always go toward him or something?

Thanks for any help you guys can provide!! :)

I'm taking a break for the rest of the day. My head's hurting after all that bouncing with Tigger!! :D

Yea!! I decided to give it all one more try this evening, and it turned out great!!

I got the treasures up on the Tea Party bushes in Wonderland. It turned out there's a secret door to the Tea Party Garden that I had never opened. It's located behind the clock in the Bizarre Room. You have to get to it when you're "big" by moving the Teddy bear, then moving the clock. After that, it was just a matter of jumping and gliding enough to get to all the treasure chests.

I also found the puppies in Halloween Town. Once you go into the graveyard, you take the elevator into the area with the hill. Then right there is a door that was shut until after you lock the keyhole, after which it can be accessed to find a whole new area of the graveyard. And there are tons of packages in there, including the puppies!

Now ... off to beat Hercules!! :)

Thanks again everybody!!!

Yes, they are both very very hard.

Hint for Sephiroth, level up. Trust me I didn't beat him until I was above 90 if not the max 99.

Hint for Ice Titan: Go to the stands. Hit stuff back at him.

Well I took a break for a few days. But I just beat Hercules, I have all the puppies except a few left at Hollow Bastion, and I've decided to go for the ending tomorrow. I take it that the Ice dude and Sephy are both extra bosses. I'll remember your advice. :)

Cheers for the aladdine advice, but I'd already hit a walkthru to find out, and then had a few days of flying through the game before coming up to ursala and her goddamn cauldron, which I get how to defeat in theory, but it's just damn hard, and I hate haing to watch cut-scenes over and over.

There's another way to get the tea party chests.
(if we are talking about the same area - other end of the room to the queen?)
In the forest area you have to get big, then push a rock into the pond and the lilly-pads stand up.
Get small again and jump up the lilly-pads and over some flowers and your in a little walled off area (which I had no idea existed - from the outside it just looks like a wide wall of bushes).
In this little "room" there's a flower who will give you stuff, and a row of tiny flowers, which if you use thunder on give you a chest with mythrill or somthing in it.
On the back wall is a door which takes you up on top of the hedges and near the chest, but you can't go back through the door once there - it's more just a door shape of vines on the side with the chest.

The chest across from this one also has a door shape near it, but I'm not sure where you can go to get in through that door.

Nikita
01-23-2005, 04:01 PM
I don't know why you're obsessed over this area. Only thing it has is one chest and the time trial (which I never do. They're boring.) and the chest is easier to reach from the other end of the course( You can climb up the other vine that's at the entrance to the camp site from the hippos.) It's also easier and shorter to jump over the hippos (IMHO).

That's it. I did it two days ago, so if you need to know anything else, let me know while it's still fresh in my mind. I really hate this game. ;)

What can I say, I have OCD. I'm taking Moonbeam's advice and just going on the Gummie Ship to start over again and use the Jungle Tunnels instead. (I haven't played the game in over a week....sorry)

I love the game, I just hate certain parts because I'm not that good at jumping. It can take me forever to get onto something or grap something sometimes because I just don't play the game often enough. After I play for about a half hour or so, I start to get the hang of things (on pun intended), but I go weeks between playing sometimes. (just don't have time, or I get too impatient and bored with it)

Anyway, the rest of you are waaaaaaay ahead of me on this game.

Nikita -- at some point in the game (I'm trying to remember where - I think it's Monstro), you get the ability to "high jump." Things get much easier to jump to after that. So hang in there.

And do make sure you're pushing the "X" button on those vines -- not the "O" button. When you first hop on, you have to scroll down to the "Jump on" option. But after that, you just hit "X." Those vines are pretty easy if you do it that way. :)

Ok, I admit, I haven't played this game in like a month. And yep, I'm still stuck at the vines. Why do you ask? Because I tired playing this week and going down those stairs by the tree house but they don't lead to tunnels. (and yes, I tried all the paths that lead from the tree top) There is something called a "tunnel" but it doesn't lead to more of them. Where the hell are the tunnels????

Please, someone help me, this game is driving me crazy. I don't play it enough and that's making it more painful. How exactly, step by step, do I find the tunnels? Where are they? I've looked everywhere. What am I missing? I hate those damn vines so I want the tunnels. I even went on the Net to see if they'd list a help hint for me and it was listed but it didn't make sense. It said go down the stairs and the save the game. Then I could go across the tree tops to the camp? I don't want to go to the damn camp because then I just have to cross the vines. Where the hell are the tunnels????

Aaaaaarrrrrrrggggghhhhhhh!!!!!

*sigh*

Ok, all better now.

Winslow

I thought there was an access to the tunnels from the tree top. You just fall off. Don't go down the paths - jump from the nets.

I think you HAVE to learn the vines tho'. I'm not sure there's a way to get from base camp back up to the tree top without doin' the vines.

As for the vines: Don't lock on. Make sure you use the jump from the command menu rather than pressing O. At some platforms you have to turn around rather than go forward.

I've been playing this for about a little over a month or so. But my 9 year old kid helps me when I get stuck. Sealed Neverland, beat Hercules, and now I'm dreading Hollow Bastion. Havin' a lot of fun, but it's a black hole of time for me.

Hi. Another kind member PM'd me last night about the Vines. It turns out I have to go through a part of them to get to the hidden tunnels. Ugh. I was hoping to avoid them completely but I'm just going to have to grit my teeth and get across those damn vines. Thankyou though. Nine year-old-kid? God, I feel pathetic now. LOL.

. . . and use it when you get stuck.

And yeah - I have a walking / talking "cheats" next to me when I play. My son helps me out when I get stuck or lost, which happens a lot. :o

One of the reasons I didn't play Kingdom Hearts for long time was I saw my wife and kids spending a lot of time trying to figure something out or looking for something. So I bought the aforementioned strategy guide and it really helped us finish the game and get more enjoyment out of it.

I'm addicted now. Psyched for Kingdom Hearts2. And looking forward to finishing this one up.

I'm currently lost in the huge world of Hollow Bastion. Great fun.

Yep, great fun. The evil bastards who created this game are sadists. They make it look all cute but that's because they know you'll sell your soul to the Devil once you get "hooked" and can't stop playing.

Man, your gonna be so screwed in the later levels.

The Little Mermaid level, which in my opinion should be easy as, is about the hardest thing ever.
Shooting that cauldron to take down octopus lady is damn near impossible.

It's only octopus lady making it hard - the rest was bizarrely easy.
It seems like a battle I'm gonna fluke my way through one time when I play it, no skill involved.

I tend to just get enveloped into certain games, Kingdom Hearts being one of them. I also just played it during winter break when I had nothing better to do. I don't think I have the patience to play a game for an entire year though.

What was really interesting though was Fall of last year when I had a girlfriend, maintained a 3.5 GPA in college, held a steady part-time job, and managed to beat Star Ocean 3 in a few weeks.

I just finished MGS3 for the first time on hard mode in two 10 1/2 hour sessions (watching the cut scenes) and stamina killing the bosses for their camos. I also caught the tsuchinoko!

Well i'v been reading the Message Board and I haven't found that many people in the same part of the game as me so i'm posting this.
I'm in level 18 (i know it's not that far) and i'm LOST!! I'm in the Deep Jungle,
i have gone to every part of the Jungle and defeated all the Heartless in those areas and the gorilla gave me stuff a few times.I know that I have to defeat Clayton but where do i do that and what do i do before that????
Any Tips?HELP!!!!!!!!

Been a long time since I've played KH1, but I remember the battle with Clayton happens in that dead end area with the bamboo. I forget the specifics other than that I had to help the gorilla out a few times and then I had to do something to go to a short cut scene where everyone hears a gunshot in the distance.

Assuming you have save all the gorillas and get all those shell-G etc , go back to the tent and save and talk to Jane. Then you will hear Clayton's gun go off and then go to the bamboo thickets to fight sabor. After you win , you will get the white fang keyblade (if i'm not wrong). There will be cutscene.

If you have problems , go to the gamesfaq.com where there are plenty of walkthrough guides.

He is called Kurt Zisa. You can find him in Agrabah after you clear Hollow Bastion the first time. You go to Aladdin's place and you will see the carpet kind of dancing around, go talk to it and agree to go with it, you will then fly out into the desert and Kurt Zisa will fly out of the ground to fight you. He's tough, he can seal your magic, can make a barrier, has some kind of tornado attack, can spit fire and has 4 arms that have blades that he spins around to attack with. To kill him you have to attack him enough to knock him down and then go for his head.End Spoilers

It's been a while since I played the game, but a lot of the chests and items that you see that are out of reach and can't be gotten to until you have gained new abilities. You'll get a glide ability after you visit Never Never Land that really helps. Just keep exploring worlds and leveling up.
