This has been a long time coming, but Sammy and Sega are set to merge by October. Hopefully, the concerns that drove Sega to decline the last merger deal have been addressed. I would think Sammy would want Sega to focus more on arcade games... But who knows.

I also hear that Sammy wants Sega to make more arcade games since that's where Sega makes the most money. I like Sega's console games, though, and I hope they still plan on making original console stuff instead of ports.

The 415MB trial version will allow players full access to the game for four hours, which Eidos says won't be enough to expose any character nudity but will give a good indication of Singles' actual gameplay.

Nah, I just looked up the esrb (http://www.esrb.org/) website and you can search through all their rated games. They list 17 AO titles. Still kind of sad.

I'm a little annoyed that it's announced so soon after Pandora tomorrow. Hell the PS2 and GCN versions of PT aren't even released yet, and there's ALREADY going to be a sequal by the end of the year? too soon. Games really should wait a year IMO.

I have no problem with adult-oriented games. In fact, I would object to an America where such things couldn't be allowed to exist.

Having said that, this game seems a little silly, but I bet it'll be fun for the people who play it.

The Playboy mansion game (which is essentially SimPlayboyEmpire) sounds like a fun twist on business sims. I'm actually half-interested in that one.

Sanagi

Just that we've got this perfectly good rating that we're hardly using.

I drove my ass all around the valley today scoping 2 different Best Buys. The games that they had for $4.99 were sold out, and there weren't that many of titles on sale in the first place.

There was one Yu-Gi-Oh GBA game I found on sale, but I didn't have the interest to buy it.

But I did go next door to Toys R Us and picked up Turok Evolution for $9.99. I haven't ever played it but I figured it looked like a fun FPS for cheap, why not? Hope it's good.

Nintendo revealed to the press that their next-generation home console will be codenamed "Revolution", continuing their theme with the DS to offer gamers new experiences and ways to get in the game. They continue to stress that "Revolution" will not be a successor to the GameCube. Yoshiro Mori, Nintendo's Senior Managing Director, went on to say, "This won't be a continuation, but rather something entirely different."

Interesting and tantalizing... I think Nintendo has the right idea here - we've reached the point where raw power is no longer what defines a console's potential, and new ways of playing are vital. Of course, Nintendo's big ideas come in two categories - awesome and disastrous - but if they're betting their next gen system on it, I think it'll be good.

What do you think? Something "entirely different" - what could that mean? How different could it be? Just an overhyped new feature? Will it have a really out-there controller? Will it even be a box that plugs into a TV? Can't wait to hear more about this.

Well revolution doesn't neccesarily need to be so big. If you think about Sony's plans for the "cell architecture," that is really a revolution wise in terms of hardware. (though I've been out of the loop kinda, so that statement might be really off now)
Also Microsoft plans to expand their console so that it is more versitile (like a PC) that is also a differant direction (again out of the loop, could be totally wrong, information is a few months old and these things fly)

The only thing I really care about, at this point, is that it will be backwards compatible with GC games. Thats all I really want. As to what they say about it not being a "successor" to the GC, but that could mean anything. But if its a home console, its technically the successor to the GC.

not neccesarily, you could still design to accept the mini dvds, just like most cd drives accept those mini cds. Though I'm probaly not the expert on this, since I don't own a gamecube and am no fully aware of the differances between the mini dvd vs. standard.

Speaking of which, does anyone know why nintendo decided to use these little game cds?

One reason is that they're harder to pirate. And they may have decided on the small size of the system early on. I'm not sure. In any case, they're plenty big enough memory-wise, so I see no reason for them to change.

bingbangboom
05-30-2004, 08:39 AM
Also faster load times but that also depends on the developer. Revolution is the code name and I am hoping they go with N5 just because I think it sounds cool. It also appears that Nintendo is still going with it's sort of gaming style while Microsoft and even Sony are trying to encorporate more multimedia into their new consoles. Microsoft is reportly working on a sort of Xbox/PC hybrid console.

Not counting the upgraded graphics and such, it would have their webtv technology, internet phone ability, media jukebox, MSN messanger, Xbox Live gaming and possibly a camera. Wireless keyboard/mouse combo also. Should be interesting.

The one thing about the Sony PSP is pissing me off is the fact that they quietly are taking away alot of features such as MP3 playback and the ability to make your own UMD disc. Instead they are hoping to release themselves music and movies for the UMD format. Sort of trying to control it even more. If done right it could have been the next Ipod, but right now it doesn't look that way.

It would be real interesting if Nintendo's NEXT Gameboy will have those features such as self MP3 playback and video media that could be loaded on cards.

Something that I saw i think on TV for the CEC or whatever was a monitor for a car that controlled basically almost everthing about it from music, tv to AC. The very interesting thing i saw from it was the fact that it had new technology that made you actually feel buttons on the screen. Don't know how they did it but I think it was ranked very high (and expensive). But say in like 10 years, imagine a gameboy where the bottom would be a touch screen buttons that you actually feel. Not only that but developers could then map out buttons how they want to for their games. Could be very interesting.

Speaking of which, does anyone know why nintendo decided to use these little game cds?

in addition to what Sanagi said, i believe for the most part that the mini DVD's are pretty much the same as a regular DVD, but the way the discs are written and the drives are made, they read backwards (from the outside to the inside).

It would be real interesting if Nintendo's NEXT Gameboy will have those features such as self MP3 playback and video media that could be loaded on cards.

there are already a number of periphrials for the GBA/SP that allow playback of audio, video, and txt files from sources such as a compact flash card or SD memory card, and several more on the way (even a couple "official" ones like the AM3). there is even a GPS unit for it (http://www.redskymobile.com)

also, i read this :In an analyst report issued Wednesday, P.J. McNealy of American Technology Research said a two-hour movie (fit onto a 128 MB flash cartridge) has been successfully demonstrated on the DS. (http://money.cnn.com/2004/03/03/commentary/game_over/column_gaming/index.htm)

i think that this E3 was really the first one that was all Iwata (i am sure that last year was still seeing projects and obligations left over from the previous president). frankly, i was majorly impressed and am more excited than ever about Nintendos future. i have faith that there will be something to this "Revolution".

here is a link to what i thought was a pretty interesting interview with Iwata about his vision for the company. (http://money.cnn.com/2004/05/20/commentary/game_over/column_gaming/)

The World of Darkness is heading for a reboot sometime this year! I just got this off the Palladium Books message boards.

World of Darkness 2.0 is starting in August with the World of Darkness book and Vampire: The Requiem. Werewolf: The Forsaken and Mage: The Awakening are to follow. WW wasn't turning off the lights, it was hitting the "reset" button.

Anyone besides me wanna scream "Glory, glory, alleluia"?

Yeah this would be old news, we knew this back when they were ending the last line. WoD 2.0 should be pretty cool.

Just check out the White Wolf website, lots of information there.

not that I approved of the whole end of the WoD thing or, outside of Apocalypse found it anything but really lame (seriously, Apocalypse rocked, and rocked muchly and rocked consistently, though Ascension had some decent bits), but good lord, they were upfront from the very beginning that this was nothing more than the end of the current WoD universe and continuity, not the whole world of darkness concept and rpg settings as related to it.

Think of what's coming down the pipe as "Ultimate WoD" or some such as far as World of Darkness 2.0

I like Crossover games, but I don't like unnessisary Crossovers in games intended to be a single "Race". WoD 2.0 must have a way for easy crossing over of lines but not make it the Rule.

Which I think they'll pull off nicely sense WoD 2.0 is going to have a core book that lets you build Mortals. Then each "Race" book will had the rules to turn your Mortal into the Supernatural of your Choise. So that way all "Races" start with the same base build.

At least it's still Storyteller. If it had gone D20 the RPG world would have Rioted.

Heathen! Mage was the best.

Celisasu

Mage the best? Hah! Wraith and Orpheus! With Werewolf running a strong second. And Mummy in third. Although Mage and Vampire were both neat in their right. Then again I guess it's also a matter of what you enjoy in your RPing. While all of the WoD was pretty angsty except possibly Mummy they had a well developed history for each supernatural. That was part of what made it enjoyable. You just picked your flavor. The tribal Garou, the manipulative Kindred, the Ascension War in Mage, etc. Personally I enjoyed the ideas behind Wraith and Orpheus the most but most were good in some way.

Except Hunter. May that travesty be buried and forgotten.

Pendaran

I actually really liked Mage revised personally, the war got all.. wackily demented as they kept running with it and you had to always wonder why the Technocrats and Trads even /cared/ about earth with all their super cool other dimensions/inhabited worlds to kick around in and fantastic god powers.

Making Mage somewhat more... I dunno.. plausible to play on street level, was not a bad idea. Making the Technocrats something other than the monolithic bad guys was also a nice touch (ok, that was done just slightly before Mage went fully revised, but still).

Not that Mage revised didn't have its stupid bits, I just liked it overall.

And I'll say it again about Hunter, if they would have just used totally different art, and totally different ads, and not thus totally mislead people about what that game is about, Hunter would have been ok.

http://www.WorldOfDarkness.com/ for lots of updated info.

And Mage, at the beginning, was mindblowingly cool. In Changeling terms, it just got more banal as time went on, though.

I'll miss the Followers of Set and the Cult of Ecstasy, but I'm looking forward to the new World of Darkness, which sounds like a step forward nearly across the board.

I do hope we'll see a Changeling fatsplat for it later on, as well.

But who doubted they'd be rebooting the universe? They said that in the very first announcement about ending the line.

well, DA Fae is out on the 7th and I hear many, many good things, Matt MacFarland (if I'm getting his non BlackHatMatt name right) is a pretty good developer and a guy who really loved Changeling so I'm expecting a whole bunch of cool things myself.

As for Changeling in WoD 2.0.. I dunno.. I really don't want to see Changeling as done by Justin Achilli... and he's made vague comments about wanting to be the one to do it.

Dark Ages Fae will be the only DA book I buy, and Graceful Wicked Masks will be the only Exalted.

Because I needs me my Faes.

Man I built some kick ass characters in Changeling, you can do almost any genre with them, Pulp Adventure Heroes, Knights, Hard Boiled Noir Detectives, etc... Never had more fun then playing an old, tired, near washed up Movie Genre spesific Changeling Grump.

Old Parinoid Eshu Hoboken Jack would kick all your punk Vampire or Werewolf asses all the way back to the hell you came from.

Making the Technocracy less monolithic is definitely a good thing. Making it a little harder to access the other realms, I can swallow.

However, I'm convinced the only reason they nuked a whole lot of both the Trads and Technos assets was so that they couldn't stop any upcoming ends of the world from the otherlines.

From what I've heard, White Wolf will release a core book for the entire World of Darkness, and then releasing Vampire, Mage, etc. as supplements.

Another thing I've been told is that they're getting rid of separate attack & damage rolls. Personally, I think that's a very bad idea. Any game I run I'll just use the old way as my house rule.

I hear that there will be a demo of Vampire at Origins. I know some people going, so I might get a bit more information.

At a recent press event, EA Games revealed its upcoming expansion pack for Origin System's groundbreaking massively multiplayer game Ultima Online. The game itself originally launched in 1997 and let players explore an online version of the fantasy realms made famous in Origin Systems' classic Ultima role-playing series. The new expansion will add an all-new package of content inspired by feudal Japanese culture, including the addition of two character classes, the samurai and the ninja. The expansion continues the original game's ongoing story--the legendary hero Lord British has "mysteriously disappeared," the evil Blackthorn has been defeated, and now new challenges face the inhabitants of Ultima Online.

Sorry, but if the franchise is now in the hands of the people behind the dreadfully boring and pointless (to me) Morrowind, I'd just as soon the franchise were dead.
