I was just interested what you all considered that 'one story' for each DC character that can either represent the character 100% or maybe is just the best piece/your favourite work on the character that you have read etc.

Personally for example, i see Year One as my Batman story, All Star Superman my Superman story...i am very interested in looking at what other's see as the the definitive GL/Flash/Wonder Woman and Aquaman story so that i can look for them myself.

Thanks in advance.

Superman - All Star Superman. Whatever Happened and For the Man and There Must be a Superman are all good, but none of them reflect every facet of the character the way All Star does (in part, admittedly, thanks to length).

Green Lantern - New Frontier

Justice League - New Frontier

Wonder Woman - Something from the Rucka run, though I'm at a loss as to what.

Batman - Dark Knight Returns + Dark Knight Strikes Again. One for the early, pulpy Batman, the other for the Silver Age Batman, together (like Morrison's entire run) they reflect the two big facets of the character. Or, if applicable, the entire Morrison Batman run.

Martian Manhunter - The Malefic arc from Ostrander's run.

Plastic Man - The Batman/Plastic Man issue from Joe Kelly's JLA

Flash - Return of Barry Allen, for Wally.

Aquaman - Something from PAD's run, I guess?

New Gods - Orion 1-25

It saddens me to say that there aren't really any Wonder Woman stories that have ever completely hit it out of the park for me. While I've found various story arcs throughout the Perez/WML/Luke/Jimenez/Rucka years to be quite excellent, none specifically I think make the kinds of statements about the character that stories like All-Star Superman, DKR, Year One, etc. make about theirs, and really, I've felt that the best WW stories were usually more personal tales like "Who Killed Myndi Mayer?" or "Chalk Drawings," which were amazing stories in their own right, but fail to capture everything I love about Wonder Woman and her world the way most "definitive" type stories do. I think the only ones that have come close were Perez's "Challenge of the Gods," "A League of One" by Chris Moeller or possibly "A Day in the Life" from Jimenez. Most of the other really good stories involve Diana losing in some way or failing at what she tries to do in the story.

Here's my personal choices:

Superman- Kingdom Come
Batman- The Long Halloween
Wonder Woman- Justice League: A League of One
Flash- I forget the issues or if it's in a tpb, but the one where Wally faces Professor Zoom (not to be confused with 'Blitz' which had Wally face the new Zoom).
Green Lantern- Sinestro Corps War
Joker- Emporer Joker
Lex Luthor- his mini series
Circe- the big crossover battle in Jiminez's run culminating in Wonder Woman vs. Circe one on one
Captain Marvel- the Jeff Smith book
Aquaman- the 'Batman: Brave and the Bold' cartoon
Martian Manhunter- IIRC, Final Crisis: Requiem.
Plastic Man- an issue of JLA where he was telling a kid about Santa
Green Arrow- one of the stories where he and Hal deal with various social problems i.e. racism, Speedy's drug abuse, etc.
