I really enjoyed. Doctor Mid-Nite is an awesome character and if you like him or are trying to get a fix on what he's about. Please pick this up! It's his first appearance and show you his whole set up. Really cool series!

Cool! I'll see if it's in the bin at the shop. I just like the character design so it got me interested.
Read it, it's great. Rule of thumb is: if Matt Wagner worked on it, it's worth your money.

It's spectacular. Really good modern-day pulp stuff. Works great as a pulp story, but is inextricably modern in its setting and story elements.
Great work on the setting and supporting cast, and the whole 'Midnight Doctor' thing is a striking character element.
Unfortunately, once the character joined the JSA, he lost a lot of that and just became 'the super-hero doctor guy'.

Really, really liked this one and wish that Johns had kept this characterization for JSA rather than "blanding" him out like he did.
My only issue was with the over-the-top amount of gadgets he's able to afford at such short notice. Yes, he's a wealthy, world-renowned surgeon, but he's not Bruce Wayne!

Thirded what Pol and Dave said. This series is WAY better than anything that's been done with him subsequently.
That book was how you update a golden-age hero for the present day. I wish the whole of the JSA was done in that style. An association of dudes like the Mid-Nite in this series. How awesome would that be? Instead we get...what we have.

Yeah. Wagner's pretty much a sure thing. JK Synder's painted art was quite nice, too, if a bit murky in spots. I don't know why Dr. K doesn't do more comics work. He has a cool, unique style. The last thing I can remember him working on was covers for Ostrander's last Suicide Squad mini. I wished he did interior art as well.

It was really good. Unfortunately, the character has never been as interesting since.

It was collected, and the collection's been out for a while, so you may find it discounted somewhere.

This thread made me pull the books out for a reread...but then my son got a hold of them, so now I have to wait for him to be done with them first.

I wouldn't worry. It looks like he's on the last page.
