Scott Hampton draws a really good Hellboy.
I don't think besides Fegredo I've liked another artists HB until now.

Sweet Jesus! Consider my anticipation levels risen several points as this new guy is a perfect match for Hellboy.

Looks pretty cool, although the running pose at the top of page 4 is a bit weak. But the style is a good fit. As it's only two parts, I think I might wait till both are out before I read it.

As others have remarked, Hampton channels a very Mignola-esque Hellboy here (and I mean that as a high compliment indeed), and I can't wait to see the finished issues!

Wow, this looks absolutely fantastic!

I'm with noble, haven't really been moved by many other artists take on Hellboy, but this looks super impressive. Kind of a blend between Mignola's old style HB and the new. Can't wait for Wednesday! (Or will that be Thursday? :(

Wow, great story! I think what I liked about it the most was the connection to the BPRD 1940's books, I'm glad to see that vampire plot isn't just going to be left hanging. Hopefully it will continue to be built up in various minis until it can be woven back into the main series after Hellboy and the BPRD stories finally merge back together.

Wow, that was awesome. The art was a perfect fit for Hellboy and Dave Stewart did an amazing job with the colours. Can't wait for the next part and I hope Scott Hampton will stick around for other Mignolaverse stories. Actually, seeing the way he draws old houses and phones, makes me wonder what he could do with a Witchfinder story (I know the third miniseries has been put on hold, but I'm still hoping for a collection of Witchfinder short stories).

That was a jaw dropper. So incredible. I'm speechless by how amazing that was. I can't wait for the second issue. I want more of this. Fantastic art, and those colours. Oh wow. This was a perfect issue.

This was a perfect issue. It really was. Scott Hampton's art was such a natural fit for the Mignolaverse and Dave Stewart once again showed why he's the best in the business. So incredibly versatile! I completely failed to mention the story... Don't know how it's gonna end, but this one just hit every note just right for me. Great way to start the New Year.

Oh, and I'm totally digging the links to 1946 and 1947. MM really has created a rich tapestry of history for his stories to draw on and I really get a kick out of seeing threads come together.

Yeah the link to '46 and '47 was great, I was sad to hear those weren't going to be continued but I'm now glad that the story threads started there aren't being abandoned.

Simply incredible! This is shaping up to be my favorite HB tale yet. Fantastic work all around! As mentioned above, really appreciated the connection to the 40s books. Looking forward to issue 2.

Loved the first issue with my only complaint being that it seemed to breeze by much too quickly. Can't wait for issue 2.

Oh. Wow.

I think this is now my favorite Hellboy tale yet. Simply amazing!
Please, please Mr. Allie - if there's ANY way to get Hampton on board for another story...

The full page image of the little girl with the black stuff? Creepy and priceless. Kudos to the whole team for an outstanding couple of issues.

I loved how she spoke in nursery rhymes, it really reminded me of the Ghoul which is by far one of my favorite stories.

On top of that though was the spectacular cover, it was really great and it reminded me of the Bones of the Giants. I need to reread that one of these days.

It's pretty damn rare to see a creature that not only can keep up with Hellboy but actually overpower him. The fact that it was a pseudo vampiri-esque thingy gave me a pretty good smile.

Hope to see more development of the vampire storyline. Speaking of which, do we really have confirmation that we won't get more 46 and 47 storylines?

Everything we know is here (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=346660). Joshua Dysart said on his twitter he's not doing anymore BPRD stuff, and John Arcudi will be writing 1948.

Agreed with all. Great story, especially Hampton's art.
Anyone else notice that the old vampire looked like Christopher Lee from the Hammer Dracula films. Which fit perfectly with the 60's England setting..

Love the art (especially in the first issue) but was underwhelmed by the ending for this story. Not sure why but some mini-series (much like the Abe mini from a few years back) start strong and then seem to decend into what I call 'fever dream' mode, where it's essentially just a series of cool images with tangentially connected poems and or sparse dialogue thrown in to finish out what amounts to the story.

I'll end here because my intent is not overt criticism, but I will say that I wished by the end of this issue that I'd had more of a connection with the series overall by its conclusion. In this case though, I simply didn't feel that.

I feel like it could have used at least another issue to fully get into the vampire horde some more.

I get the feeling we have not seen the last of this concept of the Vampires laying low for a few centuries.

My only complaint is that the story was only a 2-parter. Great stuff.

Interesting that this story (set in 1966) was Hellboy's first encounter with traditional vampires. I was reading Almost Colossus yesterday, and Hellboy mentions running into vampires in the same place back in 1969. It'd be fun to see that... perhaps it might even include a cameo from Roger's brother? Anyway, I don't think we're done with vampires yet.

Hey, this is my 333rd post!

I'd love to see a story based on that comment, and I could see it being done too. The vampire plot from the 1940's books and this mini feels like something they're building up to.
